He never made any statements to that effect. He was not actuallly born a DeBoe---he was adopted by his maternal aunt and her husband Robert Lee DeBoe as a toddler, after the death of his biological mother. I assume, but am not sure, that he was named Joseph by his birth parents.
My mother said her grandfather, Robert DeBoe, used to say he was "Pennsylvania Dutch." I read somewhere that "Pennsylvania Dutch" people were actually German--so, who knows.

Is my information sound similar to your Joseph Deboe? My father used to tell me that his ancestor Joe Deboe was Joe Deboe the 13th. Hard to believe but that was the story told down through the years. French names that sound similar are Thiboux, Thibaut, Thibeault, etc. I've seen Tebow & Debow. Dutch names could be Deboer, Devoe...

Actually, my grandfather was a Joseph DeBoe, who was the son of Robert Lee DeBoe, who was the son of Western DeBoe, who was the son of Joseph L. DeBoe.
I don't know any thing more than you do about Joseph L. DeBoe, but was wondering if you know the ethnicity of the namd DeBoe. I googled the name, and it said that the name had either evolvee from a French or a Dutch name

I am trying to find the names of my great grandmother's parents names and I am not having any luck. Her name was Margaret DeBoe. According to her headstone, she was born July 31st, 1908 and died July 12, 1943 shortly after my great aunt's birth. She was married to my great grandfather Jesse Douglas Tuck and they had 10 children together including my grandmother. Any help into finding their names and any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph L Deboe

I can find nothing on this ancestor and hope that a knowledgeable Deboe out there can help. Joseph L Deboe was born in 1800 in North Carolina and died in Kentucky, date unknown. He married Mildred Hudson in 1856 in Jessamine, Kentucky. They had a daughter Philadelphia born in 1829 in Nicholasville, Kentucky. My relatives had talked about a long lineage of Joe Deboes but I can only find this one.

Anyone have an idea?

I am not related to them. James Custard and Delilah Ann Brown had a son John Dudley Custard which is my line, and a daughter Rebecca Custard who married Philip Jacob Deboe. Rebecca and Philip had only four children[1] James w. who married Rodice Ann Heather,[2]John Craton who married Charlotte Ann Cole [3]Benjamin Thomas who married Mary F Cannon and [4] Frances Ann who married Willoughby Hudgeons Guess. Rebecca died about 1834 and Philip later married a Jacynthia [?Smith?] and they had children.
I have information on Rebecca and Phlip children and grandchildren if you desire it.
Diann,
I would like that very much. I need all the information I can get. My grandmother was married to a James Deboe in Caldwell County, KY on December 22nd, 1881. He was 24 years old and had lived in Caldwell County all his life. Year of birth was 1857. My Grandmother was Fannie Bright. I have a copy of the marriage license. The problem is I don't have any information on this James after the 1880 Census to rule out whether this is the same James Deboe or not.

Any info will be appreciated.

I would like to hear from anyone who can provide or assist in providing information that puts the Pittsylvania Co. Debos into perspective. I descend from Catherine Debo, dau. of Philip Debo; she was b. 1783 & d. 1874 in Putnam Co., WV. She married Phillip Hedrick in 1813 in Pitt. Co. Info on Debos being Huguenots is found in "Memorials of the Huguenots in America, with Special Reference to Their Emigration to Pennsylvania," by Rev. A. Stapleton (1901, reprinted by Gen. Pub. Co., 1964). Under "The Huguenots of Lancaster County" the first people by the names DeBow, DeBeau, DeBos to arrive in the U.S. are listed.

Our family has a Deboe connection through Nancy Deboe (1799-1865). She married Jacob Crayne in 1820 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. According to information gleaned from the internet there are 3 Philip Deboe's from our Nancy Deboe to 1732 when Philip I arrived in America. What I'd like to know, since I've just started looking into the Deboe history, is if anyone who has researched the line can tell me the sources found to show the family was French and Huguenot. Has anyone found record of the family in France or Germany? Hoping to hear from a Deboe who knows.
