Hi Halle(pretty name), My name is Chuck Hopkins and I've seen your name on several different boards. I've seen you on the Longs board(my grandmother was Bess Long DeBord. You entered some info about my Uncle Billy and my mother Betty (both deceased). I've talked to Katy Brown in AZ. She was a big help in tracing some of my ancestors on my mom's side of the family, What I'm looking for is the Hopkins side of the family. I'm looking for Hopkins ancestors. My grandfather, Chcrlie Hopkins was 1st cousin to Hugh Hopkins (married Lucy Long(my mom's mothers sister)but I can't find him anywhere. My dad's mother was Lula Gibson Hopkins born in Wythe WV, her father was 3/4 cherokee and her mothers maiden name was Martin. I'm lost on this side of my family. If you have info please contact me. Thank you Chuck

POW/MIA Korean War, DEBORD

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Montgomery County Ohio as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: BILLY ALLEN DEBORD
Born: October 23, 1931, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 25, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Debordfamily is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
De Bord b Sept 1854 in Illinois, fb IL mb KY with wife Mary A. or W. b Nov 1872 in Ohio, parents born Ohio, married 7 yrs with 1 child and 1 living child, and Elizabeth b Jan 1894 in MO. I believe Francis is the same person that shows in the 1880 census for Prescott Arizonia age 27 b Ilinois parents born Ky listed as single and clerk in store.
Not sure where I got this, but it came from newspaper clippings from the Maitland Press in MO: Frank Debord age 54 yrs died 12 Oct 1911 at St Joseph MO. Frank may be the same as the above Francis.
I believe Francis's father may have been the John Debord (1819-1882) that moved to Nodaway Co MO in the 1870's from Peoria Co IL. Some of this Debord family is buried in the Burr Oak cemetery near Skidmore, MO.

I have a little info. Jonathan died before the 1840 census and may have been a son of the James Debord that died 1829 in Pulaski. Patience lived most of her life in Rockcastle and Pulaski and died 1886 in Andrew Co MO and is probably buried there. They had about 6 children: Polly Anne b 1823 marr John Hamm; William King b 1826 marr Nancy Jane Pew; Fleming Burke b 1828 marr Hannah Adams; James W. b 1831; and James K b 1832; and George Logan b 1836 marr Clarissa Cummins

Here's how I read the 1900 Connecticut census ED 42-3-3:
Frank Deborde b Feb 1847 in Germany living at 76 Bishop Street, Waterbury Twp, New Haven Conn; Carolina, wife b Mar 1845 in Germany; August G, son b Nov 1876 in NY; Frederick b Mar 1879 in Conn; Lena, dau b Aug 1881 in Conn; and Minnie b Oct 1887 in Conn.
The 1900 Conn census also has a John G. Deborde born FEb 1867 in Germany.
I don't think I'm related to this family. I just collect info on the Debord, surname, various spellings, and not just my own line. Most of the Debord (Deboard, Deborde, DeBord, etc) families in the US appear to descend from a James Deboard from England that settled in Va before 1690.

My Dad is James Bonner DeBord and he is a cousin to Mildred DeBord.I believe her father was Tom. Robert, your grandfather, was born a year later than my grandfather,James Moses DeBord. He was born in 1909 and had a twin named Fred. His other siblings were Thomas H., May, Maudie, Jesse R.,Raymond. I don't know about any more.
I am betting my grandfather and your grandfather were cousins.

Hello Cathy.

OK, I just talked to Dad and asked him to fill in as many holes as he could in my family information so here goes:

My Dad is Robert William DeBord (aka Head)
He had one brother Wayne DeBord (aka Foxy)
Their Dad is Robert DeBord, probably born around 1910.
He had several brothers and sisters but I am not completely sure of everyone's name. The brothers I know of are Lincoln DeBord (had a son named Buddy), Bill DeBord, Tom DeBord (had a daughter named Mildred) and a sister that my Dad can't remember the name of right now. Robert DeBord's father was John DeBord. I imagine he was probably born in the late 1800's.

Does any of this help?

Blake DeBord

I have had a most difficult time tracing this family. Here is the hot link to info I've posted at WorldConnect.
Not sure all of it is completely correct. I believe William Debord b abt 1825 in NC was married perhaps 4 times; first to Rutha; then to Malinda; then to Delilah; and finally to Fannie Campbell. He shows in the 1850 and 1860 census for Ashe Co NC; then 1870 Lee Co Va; then 1880 Lee Co VA listed as father in law with Harvey D. Wilson. His last? wife Fannie Deboard shows as sister in law with Henry W. Watson in 1900 Grayson. Hope you can make some heads or tails of this.

http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=hld&amp...
