Arlyss DeBuhr's father was Arnold Henry DeBuhr, son of Albert Arend DeBuhr who was born in Zwischenbergen, Ostfriesland, Germany June 23, 1849. Albert travelled to the US from Bremen arriving June 16, 1862 with his siblings and parents Arend Berends DeBuhr and (mother) Aaltji Hinricks Ahlers. The family settled in Atchison County Missouri and are buried in the Hunter Cemetery. Other children of Arend & Aaltji were Berend, Anna, John, Ocke, Mentse and one other son.

Albert Arend was the son of Berend Ocken DeBuhr and Anna Dorothea Knippers. They had 5 children. Berend d: January 11, 1879 in Strackholt and Anna Dorothea d: July 17 1859.

There is another Henry DeBuhr, born 1844 and buried in Hunter Cemetery.

Looking for information on Tressa Debuhr(b.1874 in Illinois- not sure where) (d. 1948 in Clark County South Dakota). She married John Harms in 1899 and they lived in Burleigh County ND and Clark County SD. They had 8 children- Mino, Claude, Dena, Tena, Grace, Tessa, Bertha, and Tebbo. Looking for specifics on emigration, their parents or siblings.

I just started looking into the DeBuhr name and your grandfather might be my great great grandfather. Did your father Arylss have a brother named Henry A DeBuhr born abt. 1888?

Hello!

I was working on my family tree from my Mom's Mom's side of the family (DeBuhr) and while searching the many census pages I came across this..

There is two Alberts listed, a head of house and a son. I believe the head of house to be my great great grandfather and his son Henry (listed Harry) to be my great grandfather. The son named Albert might be your grandfather.

Hello,
I am fairly new to ancestry.com and saw your post from 2001 regarding the reunion in Calumet County Park Wisconsin for descendents of John DeBuhr. My maiden name was Bosma, and I think my great grandfater either had a sister or a cousin who married Tonjes DeBuhr. My grandfather was Johanna Bosma and is buried in the New Holstein Cemetery. He is also related to Dirk Bosma, but I can't make the pieces fit to determine if they are cousins or brothers. I was in New Holstein two weeks ago, and if you ever have another reunion, and we do find we are related, I would absolutely love to attend and meet some of the DeBuhr clan.

I was told that the meaning of the word "DeBuhr" was "the farmer." I haven't been able to prove it. I had heard this many years ago.

My Grandfathers name was Harm DeBuhr, My Fathers name was Harvey DeBuhr,his brothers name is jerry DeBuhr and they had sisters linda, margaret/margie and marilyn they lived in Ackley Iowa My grandmothers name was Margeret also. Im not sure as to all the history but im sure i could find out some.

I recently bought a car from Der Buhrs. They lived in the same part of Germany as my ancestors did. Yes, "der" means "the."

I was informed that "DeBuhr" means "the farmer." I see someone else has indicated "peasant farmer." That sounds similar.

There must be well over 300 plus of us DeBuhrs and no one seems to know anything about us. I am looking into my background and have found that my great grandfather Frederick Fokker DeBuhr came over at 17 years old with his father in 1896. His father went back to Germany and left him here. I have all the background from then but have totally drawn a blank with the family in Germany. Anyone have any idea on how I can follow up in Germany? We are from the Alsace/Lorraine area. I believe Claus was my uncle or great uncle. Un fortunately we didn't have much contact with my grandfather's relatives so I can't give you any details. When I go to the reunion I'll see if I can get more family information. I do have a cousin who developed a family tree about five years ago.

Don't know much about the DeBuhrs. My great-grandmother on my mother's side was Eldena (or Elzena) DeBuhr (her married name), born 1835, died 1929. Her daughter, Heinka, came to Lennox, SD and married my grandfather, Melle Wierenga, in 1896. We are quite sure Heinka came from central Iowa to SD. Don't know anything more about her family.

My Grandfather came to the usa, from Germany, to mo., in the late 1800's and moved to kansas in early 1900's. His name was Arnold DeBuhr, and my father is Arlyss H. DeBuhr (90 years old).
