Further to my last post...
Found this great website: http://genealogiequebec.info/frames.html
Looks as if there is no record of where Francois Decelles and Marie Anne Julliet come from. According to this site, they were married around 1711 and had a kid Francois Decelles and you can start tracing our family from there.

NB There is another entry for a man Francois De Selle 1652-1714 who trained horses and died of a head injury. He was married to Marie Catherine D'Auteuil in 12/12/1713. They had a son Jean Francois Marie 5 Oct 1714. Marie Cath remarried after her husband's death in 1718 and moved back to Rochefort, France as she died there in 7 Dec 1745. No other info on this son or who he married, his kids, or if he also went back to rochefort.

Did Marie Anne Juillet die shortly after marriage, and Francois remarry to Marie Cath D'Auteuil? Odd that the surname changed spelling. The first marriage has not much information, but the second is quite detailed and seems a bit more upper class. I'm not sure it is the same Francois DeCelles!

As ever, any information on DeCelles-Juillet marriage and where they came from would be most appreciated. Ditto for the son of DeSelles-D'Auteil

Re: Need a Lookup, please ... OLIVER DECELLE

Hello, Sheri,

Did you ever get a response this message regarding Oliver Decelle, his wife Elizabeth and his son Napoleon?

If not, here are the applicable records (attached).
Olivier Decelles and Elizabeth Langelier were married on 7 Nov 1848 at St-Damase, in St-Hyacinthe County, Quebec. Olivier is listed as the son of Jean-Baptiste Decelles, farmer, and Angelique Frechette.

Elizabeth Langelier is listed as the daughter of Michel Langelier and Marie Anne Chabot.

Olivier Decelle was born 16 Mar 1826 at St-Damase, St-Hyacinthe County, Quebec.

Elizabeth Langelier was born 31 July and baptized 1 Aug 1929 at St-Jude, St-Hyacinthe County, Quebec, Canada. Her mother's maiden name is spelled "Chabotte" on this record.

Napoleon Decelle, son of Olivier and Elizabeth, was baptized Louis Napoleon Olivier Decelle, born and baptized 10 July 1849 at St-Damase, St-Hyacinthe County, Quebec, Canada.

I hope this helps.

MR

Dear All

I have recently been made aware of this thread from a kind woman who happened to be doing research for another DeCelles family line. Francois and Marie-Anne Joliette are also my direct decendents.

I would tend to think, from the evidence this person provided, that our family most likely has no tie to the Gabriel/Barbe family. Based on available data, it this would be an impossibility.

she has written to me:

"By the time of the 1666 census, Gabriel and Barbe had had at least 7 children. If François had been the son of Gabriel, and was born between 1651 (when they were married) and 1666, he would have shown up on the 1666 census.
If he had been born after the 1666 census, the earliest being 1667, he would have been listed on the 1681 census living with Barbe and the other children, being less than 15 years old. And he could not have been born after Alexandre in 1671, because by November 1671, Gabriel was dead."

Lawrence - it would be interesting to find out (somehow!!) if this chap who injured his head and trained horses is the same Francois.

My grandad told me before his death that he had been told that our french male relative Decelles came from Bayeux in the north of France on his own and married in Quebec city. This information could very well be the result of inaccurate research! This could be true for Gabriel, ect...

Please get in touch!

Devon

righteousbabeinedi@hotmail.com
I posted this to the following forum

http://genforum.genealogy.com/decelle/

and just came across this one. Here's the little info that I have:

My Father: Edmond Thomas deCelle - Mobile, Alabama (1928-1989)
His Father: Edmond Carl deCelle (1889-1972) b. NY d. Mobile
His Mother: Kathryn Hiestand Taylor deCelle (1905-1990) b. St. Louis d. Mobile
Great Grandmother: Alexandra Dagmar deCelle (1868-1940) b. London d. Mobile

Other known relations:

Edmond Carl's Aunt and Uncle: Arthur and Celina DeCelle (IL)
Edmond Carl's Cousin: Oliver DeCelle

Arthur's Cousin: Fred DeCelle
Arthur's Cousin's Son: Rev. Louis DeCelle

Other Stuff:

Through some of my Great Grandmother's correspondence with Arthur I find notations for:

Montreal (1652)
Gabriel Des Celles/Des Celles Duclos (1623)
Gabriel Lombert Des Celles (1660)
Entienne (1678)
Louis (1757)

I'm intending to go through and compile the info that I have, but it is spread through many boxes (and states). Let me know if anything matches.

Randy

I am also a direct desendant of Francois Decelles/Marie-Anne Joliette (Joliet). I have nothing concrete regarding thier connection to any other Decelles line.

I did find a reference in the Notre Dame church in Quebec City, Quebec. It said there was a man that fell and died of a head injury. He was the right age to be the Francois Decelles married to Marie-Anne Joliet. Also, It said he trained horses for the Royal Marines under King Louis 14th. Although this is nothing concrete, it might explain why records are hard to find for this Francois.

Please let me know if you find anything else.

Lawrence Decelles
decelles5@comcast.net

She is the one I mentioned in my last posting--the cousin who is stuck in the research right along with me. My 3rd greatgrandfather was Joseph DeCell of Canada, I believe somewhere we will find that they were either half brothers or cousins. Joseph was married to Mary Lounge. Ring any bells? It could be that these 2 families are related but what is the connection? Nobody knows! The names I have are Roland Launderville DECELLE (grandfather) and Moses Miles DECELL (great-grandfather) and Lewis (Louis) DECELL (great-great-grandfather). The locations I have are Waterbury Center, Stowe, and Richford, VT and Mudville and Chambly, Quebec and various other Quebec locations that are possibles.
