Since my last posting, I received a copy of a military record. It says Lron Nenoit Alexandre Declue deserted the US Army in January 1863. It is said his unit was on it's way to their summer camp somewhere in Louisiana. They were offloading at a place called Napoleon, Arkansas when Leon deserted. I heard one rumor that he went to Oklahoma and married an indian woman. I have also heard that he died in Canada. Leon did have distant relatives in Louisiana named Decelles, so it is a possibility he went there, but it is not known for sure what happened to him.

I have been looking for a DECLUE reunion for eight (8)years now with no luck. I heard about about one but it was after the fact. Does anybody in Washington County, Missouri, or nearby counties, have any information at all concerning this matter. I have posted this many times in the last 8 years. but get no response. Even the OLD MINES AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY can not help me. Surely somebody out there has some information. I would appreciate any help I can get on the matter. I can be contacted by email at
dale@adams.net

I know your posting is 11 years old, but would you happen to have more information on Flaveous Josephus Declue? I have seen his name several times in these postings, but no definite information. If he is from Washington County, Missour or that general area, I would bet he is relation. If you can she any more light on him, I would be most thankful. I see the names he MIGHT be related, but nothing definate. I am looking for the usual information on him. Parents, any dates, siblings, children, etc. Thanks for your consideration. Either email me at dale@adams.net or notify me on here. Do you have any information on Acan Thebeau and his 1st wife Mary Louise Coleman? I have been looking for Mary Virginia Thebeau DeClue living with a family on the 1860 census. She is not on the 1850 census.
Also I found the photo of Rose Thebeau Bass, my dad and another lady at My dads Aunt Rosies 105th birthday party.

I did a little more research on the burials of John Alexander DeClue and wife, Mary Virgina (Jane) Thibeau.

There is burial record in the St. Joachim Burial Book (pg 239) dated 16 July 1924, for John Alexander DeClue. The record for his wife is missing, as are most of the records for the 1930s (only 22 interments are recorded for that decade).

In 1939, historian Ida M. Schaaf documented the legible tombstones in the St. Joachim Cemetery. Graves for both John A. Declue (1848-1924) and Mary V. Declue (1850-1932) are listed. Comparing this list with the site enumerating Washington County burials (by tombstone) shows only the resting place of Mary Virgina Thibeau DeClue's:
DeClue,Mary Virginia
1850 30 MAY 1932 82Y
w/o John A. DeClue

Additionally in 1982, a Mrs. C. P. Fleming recorded the burials in the "St. Joachim Old Cemetery - Right side only". Mrs. Fleming does list the graves of John A. and Mary V. Declue, with the notation "same stone." However, by the 1990s addition of the online burial sites, the grave of John Alexander Declue was no longer marked.

I broke my own rule about going to the source information.

John Alexander Duclos and Mary Virginia Thibeau had a son named Christopher born in 1880 AND a son named Carrick Orfei, born in 1884, who died at the age of 2.

From the St. Louis Archdiocesan Parish Records for St. Joachim Catholic Church in Old Mines, Roll 213 (FHL Roll: 1906607), "Baptism, 1851-1897" - Pg 366:
Dated 13 April 1884 - in the margin "Carrick Orfei Duclou"
"This day I baptized Carrick (blurred)fei Duclou, son of Alexandre Duclou & Marie Virginia Thibault, born on the 15th of February 1884.
Sponsors Francis Duclou & Sophie Duclou"

The truly interesting part about this was I kept thinking that Carrick's middle name listed in the margin, ORFEI, was so familiar to me, but I couldn't remember where I had seen it - until I looked at the signature of the priest all up and down the page on all the entries - N. ORFEI, Father Nazarene Orfei, of Italian descent. Perhaps he was close to the family or maybe they couldn't think of a middle name - who knows, but his full given name is clearly Carrick Orfei.

That spurred me to look for your Nelly and check her baptismal name. Her first name is clearly NELLY, but I can't decipher theat middle name (and no, it's NOT the residing priest's name and the presiding priest, Father Larche, had the absolute WORST penmanship ever!)It looks like it could be Reale/Reile/Rede. I don't see an "s" anywhere in it.

By the way, Carrick's burial record is page 61 in the St. Joachim Burial Book.

Cece Boyer Myers

Hey, You are amazing Thank you for the info on Carrick. I was supposed to meet a family member that had a lot of information about the children of John Alexander and Mary Virginia (Jane) Thebeau Duclos. She was a daughter of Rose DeClue Rulo. I have a photo of my dad and Rose when he went to a birthday party for Rose. This was just before my dad died, and you could sure see it in his eyes. Well the daughter, Pat died before I could meet with her. She had a lot of old photo's of John Alexander and his wife Mary. her children do not know where the things ever went to. That is close to a sin in my view. If you do find any information on Carrick's baptism, please let me know. We have gone to St Joachim's but the lady was always busy at the time we were there. I would really appreciate it
Thanks a lot
June

As generally happens when I'm not satisfied with my own response to a query, I dug through my massive collection of Duclos/Declue information, and found in my miscellaneous file the burial record, dated 11 January 1886, of a Carrick Duclos. It lists only the father's name, Alexander Duclos. There being multiple Alexander Duclos/Declue's, I never pursued it.

The record reads:
"On the 11th day of January, I interred the remains of Carrick Duclos, son of Alexander Duclos, who died yesterday age 2 years. Wm. Noonan"

I have a time frame, so I will check the baptismal records on microfilm at the St. Louis County Library for you, unless that was done by someone at St. Joachim.

Let me know.

Cece Boyer Myers

I have seen the listing of a "Carrick Oufer" in a book done by Walter Saucier. This Carrick has roughly the same birth date as Christopher Steven. I personally think they are the same person. I think the name was misspelled and further misread. The "Oufer" is too much like the "opher" of the name Christopher to be a coincidence.

As for Nellie's alternate middle name, I don't know, but I would bet that it, too, comes from some simple error. I have seen many, many such mispellings and misinterpretations in the records. Remember, these folks spoke english with a VERY heavy accent.

Hi there, it's good to hear from you.
I have been working on my Aders family tree for several years.
Nellie Elizabeth DeClue was my grandmother. I never met her as she died before I was born.
This si the information I have on her:
Nellie Elizabeth DeClue
b. 16 Sept 1895 Old Mines Missouri
d. 16 Feb 1942 Festus Missouri (TB)
Mar: 16 Jan 1917 Washington County Missouri to:
Daniel Thedore Aders
b. 26 Oct 1888 Illinois
d. 29 July 1973 Festus Missouri
They had only 1 child, a son, my father:
Danile Edmond Aders
b. 20 Oct 1940
d. 29 July 1977 (Heart Attack)
Mar:
LaVerne Opal Cross
b. 4 Jan 1923
d. 8 June 1978
Nellie Elizabeth DeClue's parents were: John Alexander DeClue and Mary Jane Thebeau. Some have the mothers name as Mary Virginia Thebeau.
Are you Christopher C DeClue's decendant? If so he and my grandmother had s brother Carrick that I can find nothing on. I even went to the Catholic Church and tried to get a birth record and a baptismal or even a death record they might have on him. They had nothing. I did find a grave stone for Chris and Rosa, but nothing for John Alexander or his wife Mary. The lady from the church said they were probably buried in the old cemetery there at St Joachim's
Can you give me any information on any of this?
Thanks
June Aders Vance oldest child of Daniel Edmond Aders and LaVerne Opal Cross

Can anybody tell me if Charles Leroy Declue was a senior? I have a picture of a baby, guessing about 9 or 10 months old, that says it is C. L. Declue, Jr. I do know Charles Leroy had a son named Charles L. Declue.
