Alice C. DeCourcy, NEWPORT

NEWPORT-Alice Carolyn DeCourcy, 91, died yesterday at the Clough
Extended Care Center in New London. She was born in Portland, Maine, the
daughter of Ray and Alice (Hymphreys) Dyer. She attended schools in
Brunswick, Maine, and Freeport, Maine. In 1934, she earned a degree in
biology from the University of Maine, where she was a Sophomore Eagle and
an All Maine Woman. She studied medical illustrating at Yale Medical School
and at Maine General Hospital. DeCourcy lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., Westport,
Conn., and Milford, Conn., before moving to Newport in 1961. She was a
member of the South Congregational Church in Newport and the Newport
Committee on Head Start. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, J. Ed
DeCourcy of New London; a son, Thomas DeCourcy of Kaunakakai, Hawaii;
a daughter, Jane Wong of Berkeley, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Calling
hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the
South Congregational Church, S. Main Street, Newport. The Rev. Craig
MacCreary will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Society for
the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 54 Portsmouth St., Concord
03301; Richards Free Library, 58 N. Main St., Newport 03773; or the
University of Main Alumni Association, "Senior Alumni" Scholarship Fund for
Non-Traditional Students, Box 0550, Orono, Maine 04473-0550.
Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of the arrangements.
