Dear Linda:

Thank you for writing. I have been writing and communicating with the Vincent Family, who are relatives of the Decuir Family who live in Mexico. The other family members are the Pintas, the Latiolais, the Olivier, the Frilots, the Oliviers and the Ozenne. All ofthem went to Mexico in the late 1890s.They are all direct descendants of our foundress, Henriette Delille, whose Cause for cannonization is in Rome. We hope that she will be pronounced a saint soon by the Catholic Church. They have been communicating with us for the last five years. They have visted us and we have visited them. If you would like the e-mail of the Vincent family, please let me know. Thank you very much for writing and if I can help you further, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Sister Eva Regina Martin, SSF

Hello,

I know this is rather late, but I just saw your posting and I believe that we have a connection. My great-grandmother is Haydee DeCuir. She is the daughter of Albert G. DeCuir (born about 1869) of Point Coupee, Louisiana and Lise (born about 1876). Your "Albert DeCuir" and "Thyra DeCuir Della and a brother Jean Baptiste Decuir", I have as Albert L DeCuir, Thrya DeCuir and John B. DeCuir; they had an older sister named Haydee (or Hydee) DeCuir who married George W. Lemons. Their daughter was Lise Lemons, my grandmother. If this connection is correct, then you and I are 2nd cousins 1 time removed. The descendants of Albert G, DeCuir, as I have it, are as follows:

Descendants of

Albert G DECUIR

1. His daughter is named Claudette and she is married to a Dartez and his grandaughter is named Susan McFarland, and she is married to Joel McFarland, and Susan is a teacher at New Iberia Senior High School in New Iberia and Joel McFarland, her husband is one of the assistant principals at the same high school.
Decuir Family from New Iberia, LA

I am trying to locate information on the family of some people that I was close to as a child. I have since discovered that they may be related to my husband's family.
I am referring to Fred Decuir (he owned Decuir's Dairy on the corner of Admiral Doyle Drive and Iberia Street in the 1960's and perhaps earlier.) Fred also lived on Iberia Street and was a State Representative at one time as well. I have no idea if he was ever married. He wasn't when I knew him in the early 60's and 70's. He had a sister that was named Lucille Williams. She owned an apartment house on Iberia Street as well. They had another sister named Zetta Mae. She was married to a very nice man named Ernest Gibbs, Sr. They lived on Admiral Doyle Drive in New Iberia. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs had two sons named Max and Ernest Jr. I would love any help in locating either the two sons or any information on the family of Decuir's. You can contact me at : lagranny50@cox.net.
I understand that Fred Decuir passed away in July of 1971 in New Iberia. I can't find any record of Miss Lucille or Mrs. Gibbs. I found that Ernest Gibbs, Sr passed away on Aug. of 1992
Any help will be graetly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Deena J. Broussard

Hello Larry, I read your message where you asked if Eugenie Armand/Arnaud was a Creole. In the records I found on her, she was listed as a mullatress, which in those days amounted to a Creole. She was of multiracial ancestry and of French parentage which at that time she was considered a Creole of Color or a Free Woman of Color (FWOC) She was born in the New World and native to the place. I need to know if you know much about Godfroi Decuir and who was Eugenie's parents.

I am interested in any information about Godfroi Decuir who is my great great great grandfather. He had a union with Eugenie Arnaud/Armand and my great great grandfather, Balthazard Decuir was born in 1800. Balthazard had my great grandmother, Elodie Decuir with Nancy Singleton and Elodie had my grandmother, Coralie Ferdinand with William Ferdinand. I need to know who Eugenie's father is.She had to have been born in the late 1700's. I have learned that it could have been an Armand Broussard and she got the last name Armand. But that hasn't as yet been proven. Her parent could have also been an Arnaud since that was the name which I found her under.

First, I've read a lot of your postings and found them interesting, and I've noticed a lot of the surnames names you've researched are related to mine at some point. So, I guess the best way to explain my DeCuir line is it started with Albert DeCuir, like you, then Francois, Francois Jean, Godefroi, Ovide, Simeon. Now, when you get to the wives, I have a very difficult time following or explaining. Godefroi wife #1 I think everone agrees was Eugenie Armand, and I don't know if she was creole or not..His wife # 2 I believe to be Emerante Carriere. ( her father Charles Carriere a free mullatto).( I hav'nt found anything on her mother except she was listed as a Negresse) Anyway, Ovide was the son of Emerante I'm pretty sure. Now, Ovides wife was Adele Ozenne. Adele was a mullatto and her line goes back to the marriage of Francois Jacques Ozenne and Marguerite DeCuir ( daughter of Francois DeCuir) And then Simeon DeCuir married Agnes Vincent and you're familliar with that. All the info on the Carrieres I received from Christopher Landry Hoegan who has been a big time help to me and you're probably familier with his work.If you can add to this in anyway please let me know, best wishes Larry

My great-greatgrandmother was Mary Decuir of New Iberia, Louisiana. She married Joseph Romero and had my great-grandfather, Joseph Nicholas Romero, born Nov. 1879, and his sisters: Laura, Louise, Therese, and Amelie. Laura married a Molless, Louise married a Morton, Therese may have died as a child, and Amelie married a Delahoussaye. Louise's son was Harold Morton. Joseph Nicholas Romero married Mary Russo in New Orleans, LA in 1902. They had two daughters, Rosalie (Rosalia) and Marie (Maria). Rosalie married Anthony Artale in New Orleans, LA and had two daughters. Marie married Salvatore Guiffre in New Orleans, LA and had two daughters. Where are the descendents of Laura, Louise, Amelie, and maybe Therese??????? Please contact Diane1602@aol.com.
We purchased and moved a really old house in Perry, La. It was recently listed on the National Register for it's architecture. I am trying to find the builder of the home. Gerard Decuir owned the plantation where the house was located before the Civil War. The plantation was sold at his death in 1899. Court records do not show the house being sold with the land. Does anyone have any info about the Gerard Decuir family from 1828 to 1899?

I have researched most if not all of the major free people of colour families in the Attakapas and Opélousas Districts, thus the OZENNE and DÉCUIR families being included. Charles Ozenne's wife was Mélanie Roméro, not Ramon as it erroneously appears in some parochial records. Her father was Michel Roméro, a Spanish-Creole and her mother Marie-Louise Suffielr. Marie-Louise's family descends from Ursules Grèvemberg, a freed mulâtresse slave of Louis Armand Ducrest and his wife. If I recall well, Ursules was born in Saint Martinville around 1775. She bore children for Louis Suffier of France. I think his first name was Louis, don't have my files with me Im going by memory. Anyways, he purchased Ursules and their first couple children and bore at least 4 more afterwards. Marie-Louise is Ursules' granddaughter. For the Ozenne and Décuir stuff, if you have any questions feel free to email me at Criollokid80@yahoo.com.

Christophe.

Décuir family and Holy Family Sisters

Dear Sister Martin, I think that you probably know a great deal of my family who were priests and sisters. One, Sister Bertrand, I think, or Sister Elaine, are my grandfather's cousins, a brother and a sister's children. Leonard Olivier is also a cousin, from the Rochon line, same as the Vavasseurs (from which Sisters Elaine and Bertrand descend).

At any rate, I have just about wrapped up as much as I can on the Décuir and de Lille descendants in the US...the generations up until 1920 at least. But, I never had access to records to fit in those that fled to México in the years leading up to and following the Civil War. Any correspondance or information shared would be enthousiastically appreciated.

Christophe Landry-Hoegan
Nouvelle-Ibérie/New Iberia, Louisiane

Re: Linda Louise DeCuir in New Iberia St, Martin

I am not sure what information you desire, but Émile Décuir was born 10 Nov 1879 in New Iberia. His wife, Marie Rella Ozenne was born circa 1883, also in New Iberia. Her parents were Charles Ozenne and Mélanie Roméro. Charles' parents were Joseph Edmond Ozenne (né circa 1822) and Louise de Blanc (née circa 1825). Mélanie Roméro's parents were Michel Roméro and Marie-Louise Suffier.

Émile Décuir and Marie Rella Ozenne married 19 Jan 1905 at St Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia. I have baptismals for two children : Lucie Décuir, née 12 Dec 1905 and Siméon Eddy Décuir, né 10 Feb 1909, both born in New Iberia.

My grt-grandpa's first cousin Charles Hébert married Émile Décuir's younger sister Louise Idéa Décuir in 1909. Word and evidence has it they immigrated to Los Ángeles where both died. If you may have any information of these Héberts and/or their whereabouts, please inform me.

Feel free to email me when needed.

Christophe.

I am hoping to hear from all relatives and descendants of Mother Henriette Delille. This includes Vincents, Boutte, Rochon, Arnaud, Delille, Sarpy and other Cane River descendants related to her, and all others who I don't know of. A Class Action Suit is in the planning regarding the incorrect ethnic identification of Mother Delille and all of the relatives will be litigants in this case. Proof of relationship will be needed. You can reach me for further information at redbino9@aol.com.
Diane, I'm sorry I didn't get your message before now. I guess I didn't hit the "let me know if anyone answered" block. I'm really shocked to see the few posts on this name since there are many Decuirs all over the US and most especially in the Baton Rouge, New Iberia areas. On my father's side I have Decuirs on his maternal and paternal sides. But of course, it isn't easy getting into the familyhistory.com posts in many instances. There are some posts where you have to sign up as a member and get a username and a password, which I forget most of the times. Thanks for your post and the names you gave me to add to my Decuir ancestry index cards. Let's keep in touch and who knows what might crop up. Regards Cousin Marion
