Barbara was daughter of Martin Hirsch/Deer and Frances Long.

Need parents & siblings for Barbara b abt 1770. She marr Ephraim Rouse 16 Mar 1795. He was the son of Mathias Rouse & Elizabeth. Ephraim & Barbard died in Boone Co KY. Ephraim died 16 Jul 1851 & Barbara died aft 1840. Mathias is a decandant of the germanna germans who settled in Orange Co in the early 1700's. See germanna's web site for info on them. I think the Deer family was also germans who came later.

Benjamin Franklin Deer/Seminole Indian Heritage?

I am trying to help my half-uncle verify possible Indian heritage in his ancestry. At present, the only information I have on the Deer line is as follows:

Lois June Deer was born March 13, 1929 in Indiana and died August 9, 1995 in California. Lois was married atleast twice that I know of. Known husbands were Richard Lee Brown and Earl Osgood. It is believed that her parents were Benjamin Franklin Deer and Genevieve (sp?) Maban.

We think the Indian heritage may be somewhere in this line and might be Seminole. Any additional information on this line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

I never had anything in my notes that a Deer married a Rushing. I have a name of a man who researches Deer family lines but I have not been in contact with some time.

He was working on a book on Deer families and how they connect and has helped me greatly plus I supplied some info on the Deer family who moved to Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. My family started from two Hirsch brothers who came over from Germany in the 1700s . landing and settling in Virginia, and both brothers changed their last namr to Deer. This is Culpeper County, Virginia. My ancester was John Deer. I hope this helps.

From what we have been able to find Our Great Grandfather's(Joe D. Dier's) Parents were Joseph Dier(born SC in 1808) and Cynthia Gartman(born MS in 1815). We are headed to to the Centerville Baptist Church Cemetery Tomorrow to see what we can find.

Though I'm from Indiana, I don't believe this Deer family is related to my family. My family name is Deer. My father added an "e".
I subscribe to Ancestry, so when I saw your inquiry, I decided to see if I could perhaps help you.
I found that Effie, b 1877, was the d/o Wesley( IN.,1854) and Emaline Deer (IN.,1854). I believe this Wesley Deer was actually William W. Deer, s/o Hiram (KY.,1813) . Hiram was first married to a Mary. Between 1850 and 1860 He married a Frances (Cobler Yaeger). So, I'm not sure of William Wesley's mother since he was b 1853-54. I found 16 family trees for Hiram. They all listed Frances as his wife and the mother of the children, however, that doesn't match my findings.

My husband came across a very smalll family cemetery located in remote rural area of Oklahoma between Bristow and Okemah. The more readable of the headstones lists:
Sealy Deer, daughter of Joe Deer and Yaner Deer 3-9-1904 to 10-9-1905 and Solomon Deer born 1908 died Feb 1909. If anyone would like more information regarding these, I will try to help. C Walker

Lynn, I am also researching my Deer line. I am descended from Johan Hirsch/Deer (VA) - John Deer (VA) - Jonas Deer (VA) - William A. Deer (KY MO) - Joseph W. Deer (MO OK) - Henry Deer (MO OK)who is my grandfather. I'd be happy to share information with you. It seems that once the family got to Kentucy, one group moved to Indiana, and another eventually moved to Missouri, where they lived during the Civil War.

John Deer is my gggg grandfather, his father being the emigrant Johannes Hirsch/John Deer. The Germanna_Colonies list here at RootsWeb is full of information about the group of Germans who settled in Virginia east of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The German surname is Hirsch, which translates to Deer in English. It seems that when some of the Hirsch ancestors arrived in the new world their names were changed by the powers that be. Church records often listed either or both surnames interchangeably in their records, though. This is a site you might find interesting: http://www.germanna.net/

I am looking for information on Mrs. Rachel Deer, who lived near Macon, Missouri. She is mentioned in the obituary of her sister Rebecca (Atkinson) Elicker, who died in Newport, Pennsylvania in 1904. Two other sisters, Mrs. Louisa Hughes of Kalmazoo, Michigan, and Mrs. Hannah Orth of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania were also mentioned. Rachel was born about 1820 or so.

Mattie Deer

I know this is a real longshot but I figured I'd try. I recently found out that my great-grandmother, Mattie Deer, was adopted. So, it turns out I'm not blood-related to the Deers. But I would like to find out who her birth parents were if possible. If there's anyone out there who can provide with some clues or information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Mattie was the daughter of Isaac and Vivian Deer. She was born in April of 1895, in Missouri (I think). Isaac Deer was born and died in Missouri and their other children were born there, so I'm assuming that's where they adopted Mattie.

I'm descended from Johannes Hirsch(Deer)- John Deer - Reuben Deer - Amos Deer - Isaac Deer and then Mattie Deer who was my great grandmother.

I'm still trying to find lost G-Grandmother Deer: Born Susan Nancy Deer, on 11-25-1860 MO. Married in Saline Co., AR. on 12-07-1879 to Asbury"Berry" Alison Mann.

Hi Paul - I haven't worked on this for a while, but this is what I have - I cannot confirm complete accuracy on all of it!

James Hardy Deer Sr (b1785 in Marion County, SC) m. Mary Alice Rodgers (b1785-1787). They had the following children: Hansford (b1814), Jennings (b1819), James Jr (b1815), Sarah (b1813), Charlotte (b1816), Ebenezer (b1821), and Hardy (b1824). They moved from SC to Henderson County, TN to the Shady Hill Community around 1835.

Their son, Hansford m. M.Elizabeth Houston (b1817) and they had the following children: James (b1835), Milton (b1845), Mary (b1849), Charlotte (b1838), Frank (b?), Sarah Ann (b1837), Ebenezer (b1847 probably your relative), Martha (b1843), and John (b1842 and my relative).

The first person I listed: James Hardy Deer, fought in the War of 1812 at the age of 27.

I don't follow Ebenezer any further down, but hopefully this helps! Teryl

Hello. I, too, am looking for information on the Deerr family on Alabama. My ggrandfather was William Fred Deerr and his brother was John Deerr. Their parents were William Fred Deerr and Mary Kraft. Both younger William and John were born in Germany. They eventually settle with their parents in Cullman AL. My ggrandfather married Carrie Hafling and John Deerr married as his second wife Lucille Greer. Do any of these names look familiar to you from your search so far? I would appreciate any information on this family that you may have. I keep hitting brick walls when it comes to this side of my family. If you have no matches to any of these names, I wish you luck in your search!

Lorena Deor or Deer

I'm conducting genealogy research for someone who is connected to the Deor/Deer family. Her great grandmother was Lorena Deor (or Deer) born about 1878. She married Robert Turner Murphy. According to Census records, it appears that her parents are John S. Deor and Nancy ? John was born in South Carolina. They all landed in Conecuh County, Alabama. There is also a Hardy Deer and another John Deer. Throughout different Census records, the name is spelled either Deor or Deer. But, Lorena is listed in the 1880 US Federal Census Record as Lorena Deor.

If this family is familiar to anyone, I sure would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

OK, let's see if I can keep this straight. I just started family history and I am the granddaughter of Edna Ellen Deer Stewart, daughter of Amos Franklin Deer son of John Wilson Deer son of Amos Deer son of Ruben Deer son of John Deer. My grandmother Edna died in 1928 and her father died in 1899 and her mother in 1894, she and her brother William were raised by their grandmother Louisa Hudson Deer. Let me know if you kept up with all of this. Oh, my connections with the Deers are all from Missouri and Virginia I think.
