Happy Easter,

I don't have any information on Jacob Frain that I am able to get to at this time a he is not a direct line. However, the following maybe of help to you.

There was a John George Frain that was born in Montgomery Co., Pa. However, it is believed that he could not read nor write as his name as appeared as basicly Frain but one of his daughters name was shown as Sarah Frane, as well as Georges appearing as Frehn and Frame also.

I do have some of the other family information on Frain and Frame that were in Pa.

Send me an e-mail at abcfhist@hotmail.com

Beth

Denise,

Is the Bob you mentioned the one who wrote a booklet on the De Frehns? If so, is that booklet still available. I have since last contact with him discovered that our Frain line was originally De Frehn and love to buy one of his booklets. Our line goes back to John George De Frehn that was married to Catherine Neuman in the New Hanover Lutheran Church on June 18, 1782. They had a son John George De Frehn that was baptized in the Falkner Swamp Church in Montgomery Co., Pa. Oh!, New Handover is also in Montgomery Co.

Now, there ws a message on a board that stated "De Frain - this name, variously written "De Frain" Du Frain, Du Fresne, etc. occurs in many localities in France and represents an honorable lineage, one branch of which belongs to the nobility of Normandy. They were largely Prosant and must have suffered very much from religious persecutions, as we find refugee families of this name in the Palatinate, Switzerland, England and S. Caroline, as well as Pa. Or origin of the earlist family in the latter State is somewhat obsure. Among the passengers of the ship "louthier," which arrived in Philiadelphia in 1731, was Maria Forrain . Circumstances point to her as being the mother of the Defrain family of Montomery County. Her husband may have perished at sea. Of this family we have the following: Martin, who married prior to 1743; John who married prior to 1746; Jacob, born 1730 and confirmed at the trap in 1748; Peter who married in 1753 and Elisabeth who, prior to 1747 married Adam Heilman. Also Christian and Frederic." There is more if you are interested.

Now, do you or Bob happen to have information on these families.?

Beth abcfhist@hotmail.com

Good Morning,

Would you by chance have any information on a John George De Frehn who married a Catharine Neuman at the New Hanover Lutherian Church on June e18, 1782. They had a son John George De Frehn (Frehn - Frain - Frane) baptized in the Falkner Swamp Church in New Hanover Twp., Montgomery Co., Pa.

Have seen it reported that the De Frehn family from Montgomery Co., Pa. were originally from Germany.

I have a great deal of information descending down from this John George De Frehn Jr. He married Annie Berkeybile, daughter of Andrew and and Miss Shaffer.

I'll gladly share what I do have with you.

Beth

Would you by any chance have any more information on Peter De Frehn? It appears to me that he had at least two children (at least perhaps at lest two children.) John George De Frehn and Anna Marie De Frehn. I've been trying to find more information pertaining to them from the Falkner Swamp Reformed Church of Montgomery Co., Pa. It also says that she was the daughter of Peter De Frehn. Then in the New Hanover Llutheran Church, there is data pertaining to a widow De Frain, Catharine De Frehn, Johanes De Frehn, Peter De Frehan, Johann, Ada and Barbara. There was also something said about the possability of these De Frehn coming from Canton, Bern, Wattenwyl wither in Germany or Switzerland. Do you have any information on these? I descend down from John George De Frehn and Margaret Nueman.

Thank you,

Beth abcfhist@hotmail.com

I just got my computer information back. I just saw the information you posted back years ago. The Boley you refer to is Arthur Boley. Mary DeFrain is my grandmother and she married George Edward Laidlaw. I have that line traced back many years. Charles Defrain is found in the census with the Boley's in Superior Wisconsin in 1930. Ida and he are in Flint, Michigan in 1920 so Ida must have passed away between those dates. Per my grandmother, Jacques Cartier was my gr. gr........etc. uncle. Per the information I have (a small book noted Jacques the Explorer) he was married, had no children because the favors he received for exploration were given by Jacques to his nephews and godchildren.....so I believe that information to be correct.

Ann

Hey John,

I know this is an old message, but hope you are still out there. In your research did you come across a Henry De Fraine who married an Alice Nellie Miles???

They were living in Marylebone, London, England on the 1901 census. Henry was 22 and Alice was 20. He was a barman and she a servant for the Ames family.

Was told they possibly had a daughter Molly De Fraine. I don't know if they divorced or Henry died but she remarries about 1910.

Sarah

I ama very much interested in the De Frehns of Montgomery Cko., Pa. Would you please share with me any information that you may have.

What I found in the family records of Beth's was

"It appears that John George Frain -- Frane --Frehn who married Annie Berkeybile, several different spellings, was the son of John George De Frehn . I've found " Falkner Swamp Church in New Hanover Twp., Montgomery Cko., Pa. baptism of John George De Frehn (Freen) was on Dec. 25, 1787. It showed his parents as being Catharine Neuman and John George Du Frehn. Then later I found a notice of Catharine Neuman and John George De Frehn being married on June 18, 1782 at the New Hanover Lutheran Church.

Do you by chance have any information on this family line? Also found a record for an Anna Maria Defrehn on March 14, 1775 who married Henrich Laulach in the Swamp Church. Could this have been a sister of John George DeFrehn Sn?

My mothers grandma was married to a DeFrain but she can't remember his first name. The people I named would be her half Aunts and Uncles. Her mother was from a marriage before she married a defrain. It's a long story any help I would appreciate.

Possible FRAME / DEFRAIN Surname Connection

Research into the origins of the FRAME surname has revealed it was almost certainly influenced by Osulf fil Frame (or Frane), Lord Belvoir du Plessis, thegn to King Edward the Confessor. The surnames DE FRAMÉ and LE FRESNE (pron. Frane) were found in Calvados, Normandy, less than 70 miles apart. Each was even nearer to Le Plessis-Grimoult, the fortification last held by Osulf’s son, Grimoult du Plessis, in 1047. The proximity is close enough to suggest a shared provenance between these families in Normandy, and for this reason the FRAME DNA PROJECT has been extended to include the surnames:-

DE FRAMÉ, FRAEME, FRAHM, FRAIM, FRAIME, FRAM, FRAME, FRAMINGHAM, FRAMLINGHAM, FRAMPTON, FRAMSDEN, FRAYM, FREAM, FREAME, FROAM, DE FRAINE, DE FREYNE, FRAIN, FRANE, FRANEY, FRAYN, FRAYN, FREAN, FREEN, FREENEY, FRENEY, FRESNE, FREYNE, or any other variants thought to have evolved from these names.

The aim is to use Y-DNA testing to determine which of the variant surnames relate to a common ancestor. DNA testing for genealogy purposes is more economical through a surname DNA project such as this, rather than as an individual. Any males by natural descent carrying any of the above surnames or variants are most welcome to join the Frame DNA project.

Further information on Osulf fil Frame and/or DNA testing may be obtained at: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/f/frame/

Best regards,

Julie Frame Falk
Gordon Hamilton
Frame DNA Project
Co-Administrators
Good Morning,

I am just getting back into the grove once again.

Larry, I remembere talking with you once before , way back when.

Since so much of my data was destroyed while being ill, I am wondering if there is a family researcher in the Pacific Northwest who would like to have two boxes (the size you buy your copy paper in at wal mart. of Frain papers.

Most of it contains what was collected on John "George" Frain family lines. Donna did a great deal in taking what had been collected, sorting and adding to it. Again a big thank you to Donna. It does show the parents of John George in these papers in error. But like all collections, theere are errors. We just need to take the errors out.

Also, would like to take this opportunity to thank the person who sent me the information on John George DuFrehn.
of Swamp Church. It really appears that this maybe the correct parentage of John "George" Frain.

Beth

What do you know about your DeFrain/DeFraine/DeFresne ancestry. Many spellings but still smells like a rose.

DeFrains of Slatington, PA

Hi Michael,
Thanks for answering my querry. My husband's mother was
Magdalene " DeFrain " White, born 1905. Her parents were
Arthur F. DeFrain, born 1877 and his wife was Kathryn E. McCafferty from Slatington, PA. His sisters don't know who their great-grand parents are. I came up with a Benjamin F.DeFrain that was born 1841 in South Coventry Twp., Chester County and died March 03, 1903, but I don't know if
he is their great-grandfather. I found in the1880 U.S. Census for Slatington, PA a Benjamin DeFrain that had a son Arthur F.,Benjamin's wife it said was marcy, I found somewhere her name different, but I can't think of it now. I don't know if any of this is the right family. I would love some help if you would.
Thanks So Much.
Linda Bartos

Good Mornning,

I descend down from Catherine Frain daughter of John "George" Frain of Pa. It is believed that John "George" Frain is the son of Jacob but I have not seen the evedence as yet. His father was NOT William. I search that line and it is NOT correct.

Now, in early Pa. there were both Frain and De Frain and Frane and Frame Frahn that were the same family lines. Robert Frain (De Frain) has compiled a book of several different researchers work on the De Frain - Frain family lines. You might like to go to the Frain family message board and post a message. I would need to have more information on whom you are seeking in order to be of help to you at this time.

My e-mail address is NNOT current. You will need to post a reply untill I get settled.

Have a good day.

Beth
