I am presently researching an Arthur De Geyter DOB 22 Sept 1877. I found a Belgium embasy change of address form for him in my family archives. the record indicates that he was from Gent, Flanders, Belgium. Other records indicate that he was went to Kenosia Wi. where my grandfather, Felix De Geyter and family lived between 1910 and about 1923. I think that he was a cousin or brother to Felix. Felix's father was Petrus De Geyter of Gent,Belgium. Felix migrated to the US in 1910. This Arthur may have come as early as 1905 or as late as 1911. I have much more research to do. If you have new info that will help, or are interested in any updates on my research, please respond. Gene De Geyter

Glenn:
In all probability, Ben Degeyter would be from our family because of the Lafayette, LA connection. He doesn't appear in my files and is probably from a recent generation. The only Benjamin Degeyter that I have was born on February 11, 1906. He had two sons, Earl (DOB May12, 1927) and Emery (DOB January 10, 1948). I can trace our family to Jan Degeyter, Sr. who was born in the mid 1750s in Smetlede Flandres (Belgium). For further information, please contact me at <cajunlan29@aol.com>.

Kelly:

Affirmative on Angelus. He was the son of Joseph Martin Degeyter. Also, the Castille/Borda connection is also part of my family.

Linda:

I have approximately 280 Degeyter entries in my family file including persons with dates of birth going back from the late 1600s to the present generations. Neither Arthur nor Helen appear in my files. My maternal grandmother was a Degeyter. The Louisiana Degeyters came from Smetlede, Flanders (Belgium) arriving about 1830. If I could help you in your research for your stepmother, I would be happy to oblige. I would appreciate your sharing with me any information that you have found in your search.

Maurice J.
Is Joseph Martin Degeyter related to Angelus Degeyter of Sanetlide, Flandre. He also migrated to LA. sometime in the early 1800s. M. Marguerite Elina Dutel on 8/16/1830 in St. Martinville. He is my 3rd g-grandfather on my mother's side. Any help would be appreciated.
My grandmother's family were Castilles. She was descended from Joseph Ignace Castille, b. 1/22/1764, m. Scholastique Borda 3/291785 in Attakapas Parish.

Aloha Maurice,

I think this Benjamin Degeyter is the one you are referring too. I remember Ben when I was a small child. As I recall he had a birthmark on his face and hair pulled back. He was as I remember the Jailer in Laffayette and had the words love & Hate tattooed on the fingers of his hands. He was my sisters father while Adolph Wheaton was my father. The documents I received from the church show that Benjamin was connie's father and he had removed her from the orphanage at St. Mary's where we had all been placed as children.

ALoha Glenn
