Deggs and mother Sarah Webb. David Alexander's father was Thomas Alexander, his father was John L. and his father was James and his father was James. John L. had a brother William who I descend from. My name is James Bartley Deggs. I was born Aug. 27. 1938 in Ross, Texas. My father was Richard Arthur Deggs who was married to Lillie Wear. My Grandfather was William C. Deggs. I don't recall his birthplace. Grandmother's name was Lizzie.

I am researching my wife's grandmother's family. Grandmother's name is Ella Diggs Jones and her father's name was John Diggs. If I remember right John Diggs had a connection to Navasota, TX, but I am unsure of what the connection is. I have reached a dead end on him and I am looking for some help. Thanks

I know its been awhile since I've been doing research on my family, but Jan (or anyone else) is still around and can help me.

I was looking for the parents to my great great grandmother Fannie Brent Deggs b. 1859 in Texas. I have found her on an 1860 Census in Austin, Travis County, Texas. It shows her father and mother being R. F. and H. Deggs. it also listed 7 siblings all with initials. R. F. Deggs was born in Virginia abt. 1816 and H. Deggs born in Alabam abt. 1828. The majority of the siblings were born in Mississippi.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I hope someone can help.

I am wondering about something. I have been trying to find my family line for some time and reading through the posts I am seeing interesting correlations. I read about a James Bartley Deggs and William Deggs. I am wondering if perhaps I am finnaly seeing a connection. My father's names is James Bartley. His Father was Richard Arthur and his father was William. Can anyone help me to fit some of the pieces together? Also, apparently part of my family spells it Degges and this is some controversy, but about what I am not sure. Most of the line that I know about is from Texas but where they came from before that I have no idea. Thanks

I am looking for information Fannie Brent Deggs. She was married to William David Coats. I know they married in Falls County, Texas in 1878. The Coats family lived up around Nacogdoches, Texas. Do you know or recognize this name? I don't know who her parents or siblings were. I hope that you can help.

I hope someone can help me. My great great grandmother was Fannie Brent Deggs. She was b. May 29, 1859 d. Nov. 19, 1952. She is buried in Ryan, Oklahoma. She was married to William David Coats. I am trying to find out who Fannie Brent Deggs parents and siblings were. I do not know where she was born. Fannie and William married in Falls County, Texas in 1878. Robert also appears in the 1840 Kemper, MS census.

Robert resided next to several Diggs/Deggs families who were also from VA.

December 21, 1858, Mrs. Olivia Tapscott married James B. Deggs in Washington Co., TX. February 28, 1859, Mary Ann Deggs married William B. Collins. The family always identified James B. Deggs as her father; however, he has no Mary listed in his household in 1850 (Kemper Co., MS) so now I believe it's possible that he may have been her step-father and she was actually Mary Tapscott (as an aside, family notes always listed Mary as born in MS, however, the 1880 Milam Co., TX census lists her as born in Ala. There is no evidence -either way - that James Deggs was ever in AL)

I believe James B. Deggs' first wife, Minerva, was in some way related to Robert or his wife because they named their first son Tapscott. (It is likely that James is the son or nephew of John Diggs, age 64, in the 1850 Kemper MS census)

Am trying to learn more about James B. Deggs and Robert Tapscott and their pedigrees, but especially about James' wives Minerva and Olivia, the connection to Robert Tapscott, and the identity of Mary - Deggs/Diggs? or, Tapscott?

The only information that I have him is that he was born and reared near Vernon, Texas. He had two brothers, Robert and Richard, and on sister, Molly. He owned and operated a saloon in Vernon until his death in 1888. In Vernon, he married Sallie Webb. Sallie had at least one brother Tom (that I am aware of) who married James Bartley's sister, Molly. Both of their children, William Curry and Georgia, were born in Vernon.

This is about the extent of the information that I have on the Deggs family. I be glad to share any other details with you.

I was scanning the Deggs message board and found your message posted in 2002. Benjamin Deggs and Elizabeth Hales were my g-grandparents on my mother's side.They lived in Polk Co. Texas, near Corrigan. They had 8 children. Benjamin was born in Mississippi 25 0f Jan. 1841, D. 10 of Feb.1895. Elizabeth was the daughter of Alexandra Hales, (My g-grandfathers brother on my fathers side) I have the children of Benjamin and Elizabeth and thier spouses. You may have all of this already. I do not know very much about your part of the family, BUT I am very interested. Somewhere I have a list of Benjamin Berry Deggs (and siblings) from Corrigan, TX. My Mama was raised in the Corrigan, Damascus, Pluck, Chester area and we went to all the cemeteries we could find a few years ago and recorded off of head stones and visited with people.

My Grandmother was Mellie Mae Deggs (Beavers) (Pate). I am in the middle of final exam season and do not have time to scrabble through my records, BUT if you will remind me on May 13 or after I'll send you some more information. My Great Grandmother was Zelphia Deggs and Granfather was Dixon Deggs.

Although I don't recognize Fannie's name, I have a strong hunch that my James B. Deggs was actually James Brent Deggs.
