Gordon E. "Gordy" DeGolier, age 79, of West Lake Road, Westfield died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at home following an extended illness. Gordon was born on October 31, 1930 in Sardinia, N.Y., the son of the late Elmer S. and Winona May (Witheril) DeGolier. A Chautauqua County resident all his life, Gordon was a graduate of Brocton Central School and a 1958 graduate of Michigan State University and served in the Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. Gordy had been employed by National Grape Cooperative as an area manager for many years, retiring from there in the mid 1980's. He then did research for Cornell University's grape projects. Gordy was owner and operator of Aldewein Acres Grape farm at his home in Westfield and was a 40 year member of the National Grape Co-op. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the North East Fruit Growers Assoc. He was named Person of the Year in 1991 by the Great Lakes Grape Program Advisory Committee for his outstanding dedication and work. Gordon was a member of North East Lodge 399 F. & A.M., the Valley of Erie Scottish Rite Consistory and Zem Zem Shrine Temple, as well as a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 58, Camel Herders and Hillbillys. Gordy was also a life member of the NRA.
He enjoyed politics and reading political publications and books. Survivors include his wife of 36 years: Lois "Corky" (Murdock) DeGolier, whom he married on May 18, 1973, his daughter: Lisa (John) Clicquennoi of Ripley, N.Y., his two step-sons, Ronald (Barbie) Damon of Sunrise, Fla., and Stephen (Chandra) Damon of Warsaw, Ind. and his nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Gordon is further survived by his ten sisters: Joyce Smith, Glora Ulrop, Joan McCargo, Wanda Kelley, Ardys Price, Rozella Homuth, Sharon Walker, Charlene Plymer, Janeen Noetling, Sheila Jackson and his five brothers: Dexter, Dennis, Carl , Keith and Reed DeGolier.
Besides his parents,
he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Marie LaFuria,
his brother, Warren DeGolier,
and his three sisters, Beverly Reynolds, Theora Gens and Valerie Zydel. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY.
