Michael,
I got your message, Go to Google and type in Janet DeGolyer
there are several but only one is me. Around page 4 or so you will see The James Degolyer/DeGolyer Family History. click on that it should take you to my page on DeGolyer family History. I found most of my research through the Washington docs. However I have not been active in searching for several years. Put a post out there for everyone to read and you will be suprised at how wonderful everyone is to share their info. I would be happy to find that info for you but I have moved recently and it is still packed in SEVERAL bins. LOL Good luck with your search. I hope this info helps, it is a long read.
Janet

Janet, I have run across your name all over the place re: DeGolyer family research. Thanks so much for posting the info you have-it's been invaluable. George W. DeGolyer was my grandfather. After Maggie Freeman died, George married Mary Barrett from Berea KY. Mary was 15 and illiterate while George was 40 at the time. I believe this was before George enlisted in the Spanish American War. He is buried at Andersonville, GA and was in hospital in 1901 in San Francisco on his return from the war. Mary was one of the last Spanish American War widows when she died age 92, and had 13 children with George as well as taking care of his first two from Maggie. (My father was Virgil Warren DeGolyer, married to Janet Jock DeGolyer). George had serious health problems during his final years, and all family history was lost until some of the grandkids starting researching it in the 1970s, and ran first into Everett Lee DeGolyer's family history. The book on Everett Lee DeGolyer "Mr. De", by Lon Tinkle, transformed my life (seriously!). So much so I went from being a carpenter and son of a carpenter to working my way through college and grad school and have been living and working in Hong Kong as a professor since 1988. (Everett Lee DeGolyer's scholarly ways really struck home to me, as did some of his interest in history and geology and library collection). So not all family history and connections (and maybe inclinations) come via direct ancestry. I cannot find very much info on George W. DeGolyer other than he was born in Indiana in 1858. Do you know who his parents were and which of the first DeGolyer brothers (James, John, Anthony) his family comes from? Really appreciate any info you might have on this. He had to be related to the DeGolyers in Indiana in some way. I had an "aunt" Edna DeGolyer who died in Dunedin FL in 1983 who was related in some way to the family.

I am researching the DeGolier family that live/lived in Bradford, PA. James Roy DeGolier (1876-1958) marrie Grace Manry and they had 7 children, James, Jr., Clair, Beatrice, Bessie, Harry, Robert and Roy. James Roy DeGolier was the son of Lorenzo and Amanda DeGolier. Lorenzo was born in 1841 and was one of 10 children born to James DeGolier, Jr. 2nd and Ann Stevens. This family is based in and around Bradford, PA and New York. I would like to compare notes with anyone researching this prioneer family. Since James was a Jr., I assume his father was James. Sr. but would like to verify.

There may be a connection here since Maggie died only one year after having William. It looks like two very young children needed mothering more than a father could give in thoes days. His title is "Captain" but I am not sure where that information came from. I am descended from his daughter Francis M. ("Fannie") De Golier, b. June 10, 1812. Her younger brother, John De Golier, Jr., was born in 1810. Is this the family you are curious about?

The other John De Golier I know of was married to Lydia White. I suspect that might be the one you are researching, but I am not sure since Lydia White would have been over 50 years old at the time of Philura's birth, right? Next generation maybe?

Let us know which John and some more info if you can.

Thanks,

Kevin
I am also researching the DeGolyer Family History in Indiana. My grandfather is a DeGolyer. His father died when he was only around seven days old. He knows nothing about his family. He does know that his father's name was Raymond and he died in 1928 in Indianapolis, IN. My grandfather's mother was Ida Mae Braswell (unsure of spelling of last name). She was born around 1903 in Albany, KY. She married two other men after Raymond and died with the last name of Robertson. She died in 1978 in Indianapolis, IN. They had two children. Warren was born in 1925 in Indianapolis and died in 1985 in Indianapolis. He was married twice and divorced both times. He had three children that we belive survive. They went by the names of Larry, Janet, and Randy. We are unsure of their whereabouts. Then my grandfather, Willard Raymond, was born in 1928 in Indianapolis and still survives. He married Hazel Loretta Wise around 1950 in Indianapolis. They have two children. Fred Russell and Penny Roushell. Penny is my mother. I hope this helps you. I am just starting my research and have not been to a library yet, so any information will be helpful to me. Thanks.

Martha,
I have been researching the decendants of Dirck Banta. My web site with his decendants is http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/c/d/Glen-D-Mcdo...
His granddaugther, Catherine Banta, born about 1795-1800 married James Degolyer. This comes from a Banta genealogy book published in the 1930s. The athor was unable to trace the decendants of James and Catherine any further. The Banta family was living near Broadalbin, Fulton County, New York and Galway, Saratoga County, New York when Carherine married James Degolyer. I think your James Degolyer is one the I have been looking for. The other file on my web site traces the ancestors of Catherine Bant
Glen McDowell

Are you still searching, Denise,
or have you had any luck. There is another whole world that does adoptions research, but we all start the same place,
with ourselves. And have you seen , and have copies of the birth, death, and marriage of the parents that did raise you.
there may be a clue there, of other persons that you could contact. What church were they married in, where did they go to school ? If he was Mensa, did he go to college, is this where they met ? Good luck. Have a friend in Fla that just recently found her family, tho she is much older than you.
Should be easier today, rather than 50 years ago. Feel free to email, Sonja

Ms. Mott -- I chanced to see your posting which referened letters from my grandfather Everette Lee DeGolyer (1886-1956) of Dallas. I was curious of there is any other information in the letters that might be of interest to me? There is extensive DeGolyer stuff in the papers of my Great Uncle Homer Louis DeGolyer at the DeGolyer Library at S.M.U. in Dallas.
Thanks -- Peter Flagg Maxson

I am descended from Philura DeGolyer who was born 26 Nov 1817 in Ft Ann NY. The family moved to Ohio where she died in 1853. She married Hiram McMaster. I am looking for connections to the other DeGolyers in NY. I think her father was John DeGolyer, but I have no proof. I once saw a note that John was in the War of 1812 but the govt doesn't have records of it.

Im a DeGolyer too

Hello everyone,

I was shocked to see a DeGolyer message board! Well, heres my two cents and if anyone can help me i would appreciate it!!! My name is Denise Anne DeGolyer and I was born in Rochester, New York. (By the way I'm in PA now)My fathers name was John H. DeGolyer and his d.o.b. is 2/22/31 he died on 11/27/93. I know he has sisters in Florida. He was a stockbroker and the President of the New Orleans chapter of Mensa. I was very proud of him. Anyway, heres my problem... I am adopted...John and Mary Lou DeGolyer adopted me in 1965 my birthdate is 5/31/64. Unfortunately they divorced soon after and John DeGolyer was court ordered not to see me again. I was 7 at the time. I found him again 20 yrs later living in New Orleans (he was French-Canadian)soon after he died of lung cancer. Our time together as peers was so short that I never had the opportunity to get answers about my adoption. my adoptive mother passed away when i was seven. There is no other way to get any information on any of my birth family and as you can see i grew up without any parents at all so this is very important to me, I also need medical history as well.
So you seemed like real ancestry pros and i was hoping, in all of your researching, if you might have stumbled across anything that may pertain to me, if you have or do in the future please email me! I would greatly appreciate it!

Good Luck too you all and if you need any leg work done here in PA let me know.

Thanks,
Denise
E-mail: stepford18@aol.com
