Dear Margaret. I think I see how the name Highnote came from DeHainaut...It is the latter part Hainaut, pronounced "Hainou" I think this is very interesting...who knew.
Most of the place mentioned on our family tree, weather france, Belgium (not a country until around 1830 something)or Holland, and germany are so close together it's sometimes hard to decide where they are from...Firmin's Mother was Louise Schmidt, born in Holland, and my grandmother was born in France, but they always claimed to be belgium. They moved constantly, going where ever their was work in the glass factorys. This is how they ended up going to the United States...First to Pa. then to Indiana, and finally to west Virginia. I would be most interested in learing more about your family...It is possable that the ansestors you memtioned are related to My G Grandfather. Thanks again for the information.
Two brothers were born in PA. around 1750. According to Mary Putman, the Highnote name has been spelled several ways: DeHainaut, d'Hainaut, de Hainaut, Hignote, Hignot, Hignet, Highnet, Highnett, Hignote, Highnot, etc. Most of my father's family believe that "we" came from Germany or Holland. Just not sure!

Thanks for the rapid return!!

Hello, Thank you for responding to my inquirey...My family migrated to the US in the Late 1800's from Belgium, although my Grandfather, Firmin J. DeHainaut was born in France...They were glass workers, and a few were coal miners. I can not figure out how your maiden name is translated into to DeHainuat. Please explain. I enjoy hearing from anyone who may have ties to my family tree. Thanks again.
Rochelle DeHainaut Hughes

I am Margaret Highnote Allgood. One of the various spellings of my maiden name was mentioned as DeHainaut. Two brothers, Philip and Henry Highnote were born in Bucks Co. PA. in 1753 and 1756 respectively.
Did the DeHainaut family migrate from Belgium, Germany, or France?
Thanks you

Dear Colleen, How wonderful to hear from you. I don't recall hearing from you on the Quinette subject, but you are more than welcome to any and all information I may have. I remember Betty very fondly. She was a beautiful woman, and she used to come to my home and "kidnap" me and take me to her home in Charleston. At this time, around WWII. Cars were few and far between, so just riding in one was a treat. She used to let me play with a music box she had, a clear glass box that you could see into and watch all the gears moving. I lost track of her after she moved away, and I only heard lately that she had passed away.
I am the daughter of George Philip deHainaut, the youngest child in the family.
You may contact me at the e-mail address above, differant than the one listed on the message board. I'll be happy to answer all questions, as well as find out more about Betty and her offspring.
Looking forward to getting to know you, Rochelle

Hi Rochelle! I have replied to you once on the Quinette board. I hope this is not an imposition, but I see that you have lots of very detailed information on the DeHainaut Family. I would dearly love to learn more about them. The information I have is very sketchy. All I have are names and just a few dates, and from what I've read from you I don't have nearly enough names!
I would appreciate greatly any help you could offer or even if you could just steer me in the right direction. (I'm new to this genealogy thing..it's fascinating.)
Colleen Steadman
(grandaughter of Betty DeHainaut who was the daughter of Leon, and grandaughter of Firmin J. and Justilina. My grandmother was born in 1921 in Charleston WVA)

Rochelle,

This widow lady's name is JACQUELINE, not Victoria.
Jackie's English is very poor. Even her Flemish (our lingo) was poor. She is a French speaker. Her only son, Pierre Perne, born 1953, is well versed. He traveled the USA for a pharmaceutical firm. If/when you contact Jackie, this Pierre could translate for you. The lady's address is:

Mrs. Jacqueline deHainaut
Oude Brusselse Weg, 34
B9090 Melle, Gent, Oost Vlaanderen
Belgium, Europe

The address is Flemish, because the town "Melle" is located in the Flemish part of Belgium. Towns in the southern part use French. Good luck.

René and Franny VandeKauter

Rochelle

Searching our genealogy, we saw a deHainaut. We have a friend named Jacqueline deHainaut. We guess she was born about 1922. She still lives in Belgium. She speaks some Flemish and basically French. If this looks useful to you, reply. We will gladly offer address and phone # of this Jacqueline.

René and Frances VandeKauter
