Harmon Dehaven is the normal spelling.

Yes. Wilson Stewart Smith and Maria Louisa Dehaven are the parents of the two grandchildren.

Maria died in 1870, but Wilson lived until 1919 or so.

Much of the data on this line comes from a booklet compiled by the Rev. W. S Smith Harrisville, PA 1946.
furnished by Candace Millsop. 9/02

For more info contact me at jpatter@comcast.net

Hello, There is a De Haven family in Shaler PA in 1880. A 74 yo Hannan? Hamond? Hanner? DeHaven is likely widowed and living with his grown children and two Smith grandchildren.
Does anyone know this family? I am trying to find out if the Smith children's parents were WS Smith and Maria DeHaven. Maria & WS Smith were living in Allegheny City in 1870 and I think they died and eight siblings were scattered.
Thank you, M Flaherty

LOL. I'm so glad I'm not the only one struggling to decipher these things. On the Miracode, the relationship is spelled out more clearly as "companion." My guess is that she was housekeeping for the DeHavens. In 1910, she was more than old enough to function without a guardian, so there's probably some kind of familial relationship that remains a mystery!

Well, you piqued my curiosity. The 1910 Census shows something in the relationship column for Hannah, but I cannot read it ... looks like "Greek anime", but I know that's not right!

I have no information about Hannah.

Joe

William Dehaven was the guardian for Hannah M. Collier (daughter of civil war veteran John W. Collier/Colyer). In 1910, Hannah (age 34) was living with William Dehaven in Millersurg. I do not know what became of Hannah. For that matter, I do not know why William became her guardian. No obvious familial relationship (not grandparents...not old enough...maybe William's wife was some relation...an aunt, perhaps?) Anyone with information, I'd love to hear from you!

Susanna Yocum Spaulding DeHaven

Is there anything definitive about Susanna Spaulding as a widow with the maiden name Yocum, and would that be the Swedish Yocums? I've been to Old Swede in Upper Merion and have seen the gravestone with the Susanna Spaulding name, but I don't know if there are any church or other records linking her to the Swedes. I may be descended via Martha Dehaven through William, Samuel, Moses then Samuel.

The DAR has a memorial there for Samuel, but when I checked their sacred data base, they seem to have a problem with the veracity of his service, yet seem to accept his son Moses as a veteran.

I've been thinking of getting a DNA test, but it kind of creeps me out, and I'm not sure it would prove I am the worlds shortest man with Swedish ancestry, after burning a hole in my pocket. I suppose Revolutionary war veterans don't have any special DNA, but if it did, I'm sure DAR would be right on it.

All this uncertainty can sort of tie you up into Huguenots.

Hi..I am starting the research on this branch of my family tree. I am a descendent of Joseph Lutz and
Louise Lutz-DeHaven but I seem to be getting confused. Clarence Lutz was my great-grandfather. In my stuff I have gathered I have a birthdate for my great, great grandmother Loise Lutz-DeHaven of 1867 and death date of 1942 married to Joseph Herman Lutz born 1862 and died in 1942 but in these threads I am reading Mary Elizabeth who I am assuming went by Louise? was married to Joseph Fortine Lutz. Are these the same people going by different nicknames? I would like to trace the DeHaven side of my family that is the only branch I am missing and have no info can anyone give me a start? Thanks!!!

While searching through old newspapers online today, i cam across an article about Jacob DeHaven money. In The Article Harrison DeHaven claims that his grandfather is the brother of Jacob. Im pretty certain the harrison Dehaven in the article is Daniel Harrison DeHaven b 1831 the son of William DeHaven b 1793. ive never done much research on Jacob. My question is does this make sense and could it be true. I would love to find definitive proof on the father of William 1793 as he is my 4th great grandfather.

Jennifer,

I have a a lot of information on the Dehaven family. My grandmother was a Dehaven. I have in my record some of the names you mentioned which means that I have their ancestors.

I have photos of the Dehaven cemetery in hillville which includeds William Marion Dehaven and his wife Emaline Bolt. I have William Marion Dehaven's family line all the way back to Germany in the 1500's.

I am happy to share information with you. Its interesting finding very distant relatives who are just as interested.

~Erin

Jimmie,

My Ggrandfather Walter edward Dehaven was from hillsville, VA He was married twice and has children form both marriages. He has lived in a couple of different states so, its not completely impossible. I believe that his youngest daughter Linda is still living. The best thing would be to see it someone would be willing to take a DNA test with you to confirm relationship. However that would also mean finding a male decendant of walter's. Meaning the son of one of walter's sons. I don't really know many of the Dehaven's but my Mother may have some info if your interested. It may not be the same family but maybe you can try and rule us out as a possiblity.

Wanda, my name is Erin gulledge and my mother is Beverley Reynolds. Her mother was Christine Dehaven. Her Grandfather is also Walter Edward Dehaven. So I guess that makes you guys cousins and us second cousins. I have been doing research on the Dehavens for a few years. I have some pictures and different records. I would love to get together with you and share family information. I have the dehaven line going back all the way to the 1500's in Germany. Hope to hear from you soon. ~Erin

Rachel Ann Dehaven 1828-~1867

I am seeking information on the ancestors of Rachel Ann Dehaven born in OH in 1828 and died in Piatt County, IL around 1865-1870. She married James Frederick Wright around 1849 most likely in Piatt County, IL. My educated guess is that she is the child of Peter Dehaven of Ross County, OH (1820 and 1830) as the Wright's resided briefly in neighboring Pickaway County (1840) on their way to Piatt County, IL (1850 on). Children of Rachel and James Frederick were Elnora (~1850), William M. (~1852), Mary J (~1858), Frederick Albert (~1860), and Cornelius (~1862), plus four infants who passed away.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply to my posting.

The 206th was principally recruited in the counties of Indiana, Westmoreland, and Jefferson, and was organized at Camp Reynolds, near Pittsburg.

William H. Dehaven was in the 208th. Here's all I know about him:

WILLIAM H. DeHAVEN is found in the June 1890 Special Schedule for the Millersburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, Census. He is noted with the disability of “pain in the head at discharge”. William was a substitute. He applied for a pension on February 3, 1890.

I have the same problem trying to narrow down the William Dehavens. We know he was living in Millersburg, and Dauphin County was one of the draws for the 208th.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Joe
morse73@ptd.net

Information has come to my attention of the existence of a bible for the Henry DeHaven family of Lower Providence Township, Montgomery Co, PA last in the possession of one Jack Parks. Henry DeHaven married Sarah Shutt in Nov 1829 after the death of his first wife. Several issue ensued. Any information as to the location of the said Bible, its contents, or Mr Parks would be appreciated. Feel free to respond to Southfran@aol.com Regards, Frank
