I live in Richardton, ND for nearly a year now at a Benedictine Abbey and since my arrival I have been searching for my roots due to the large number of German-Russian people who are apart of this community.
I am originally from White River, SD which is located in the south-central region of the state. There are only a few Deiss's in that area since my father has only 2 older sibilings, but family is still very abundant because his mother is a Deutsch which she has 10 sibilings-some living and some not.
I have some information that only goes back to maybe the late 1800s and only one generation. My father is Robert Leo Deiss who was born in 1939. My grandfather is Jacob Deiss who was born in 1898, he married Mathilda Deutsch who was born in 1908. Both have ancestry that goes back to the Bessarabia area in the Black Sea region during the many years that the Germans were immigrating to Russia.
I would be grateful for any information given in hopes to understand this genealogy background and also to meet the relatives who I would come to know through this research for not only the meeting of distant relations, but for the passing it onto our future generations.
Unified by time,
+Darren J.
