Just another heads-up, possibly a related line...
my Deiss/Deisz line (I just started recently working on this part of my family) is in Akron, Ohio.
Martin Deisz, born July 18, 1823 in Feuerbach, Baden, Germany; died May 4, 1890, probably in Akron, Ohio where he is buried. There are a number of Deisz/Deiss burials in Mount Peace Cemetery where Martin is. Included is my great-great-grandmother Amalia Deisz and her husband Wilhelm Frederick Haeferle. (spelled Hoeferle on gravemarker). She was born Nov 6, 1850 in Baden, Germany, died Jan 9, 1926. Wilhelm Haeferle was born Nov 10, 1850 in Leil, Germany, died Apr 10, 1930.
Some others in the same cemetery are:
Mildred Louise Deisz 1914 - 1930
Paul F Deisz Dec 8, 1934 - Sep 3, 1940
Louis Deisz (I believe a brother of my Amalia, but not proven) 1862 - 1903
his wife Louise Deisz 1866 - 1923
Fred Deisz 1879 - 1951
Herman Deisz Oct 7, 1887 - Dec 31, 1947
Herman is buried right beside my Martin Deisz, so likely a direct relation.
This of course does not include women that are buried under married names I don't know about...
I know my Amalia and husband Wilhelm came to America in 1879-1880, and Wilhelm's naturalization document was signed as a witness by Martin Deisz (in 1886). Don't know if Martin came with them or was already here - I haven't been able to find a ship passenger list with either family yet. Martin's gravemarker (what I can read of it - it's rather worn down) does not mention a wife, so I might be inclined to guess that she may have died in Germany, and he moved here later in his life, maybe with Amalia and Wilhelm.
Any insight?
