Hi Herman.

I believe you're mixing up different Spoelstra families. Grietje (Cornelis daughter) indeed had a brother named Sybren, but this is not the Sybren/Sijbren you're mentioning

The Sybren who married Wintje van der Kamp is son of Cornelis' spoelstra's brother, Jelle Sybrens and Hittje Watzes (source: allefriezen.nl)

Correct me if i'm wrong

obit for George is in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in southern California on Monday June 14 2010
age 92, of Grand Rapids Michigan formerly of Chino California passed away Thursday June 10 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife Marguerite and son David, He is survived by three children, Marcia Billing, Pete and Mary DeJong, Jane and Joel Konyndyk, 7 grandchildren,5 great grandchildren, and sister Clara and Steve Van Hofwegen.
Funeral serviced will be held Thursday at 11 am at First United Reformed Church 6159 Riverside Drive in Chino,Ca with visitation from 10 to 11 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Pomona Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church 961 Temple S.E. Grand Rapids MI.49507. Arrangement by Zaagman Memorial Chapel in Grand Rapids.

Jess and Verna--Can either of you tell me more about your Dutch ancestors? Was Trijntje born in the NL? What were her siblings' names? When did the family emigrate? Any idea who Trijntje's mom was? I do Dutch lookups for people, but I need more to go on.

Grietje Spoelstra married Wiebren de Jong in Oosterend (Friesland, The Netherlands) on 26 apr 1919.
Grietje had 2 brothers who emigrated to the US around 1912/1919, named Jelle (b. 16 sep 1890 in Oosterend) and Gerben (b. 23 feb 1893 in Oosterend). Nothing is known about the descendants of Jelle and Gerben in de US. Grietje had also a brother named Sijbren (b. 10 aug 1880 Oosterend), m. 10 jun 1905 Sneek with Wintje van der Kamp.They had 5 children (Hilda,b.1907, Jan b.1908, Jennie b.1911, Martha b.1916 and Janna b. 1917), and arrived in the US in 1922.
These brothers Sijbren, Jelle and Gerben had a nephew, named Watze, who moved to the US in 1919. He was born in Oosterend on 16 oct 1882 and died in New Jersey on 14 jan 1955. He married 24 feb. 1906 in Leeuwarderadeel (The Neth.) Tsjiegje Dijkstra (d. sept 1976 Haledon, Passaic New Jersey). They had 6 children, all born in The Netherlands 1906/1919.
I am very interested in all the Spoelstra-descendants of the above named Sijbren, Jelle, Gerben and Watze Spoelstra. Please send me information, as much as possible.

"Springfield, South Dakota CENTENNIAL" published July 1970
WILLIAM P. DE JONG
William P. DeJong was born December 17, 1834, in Friesland, Netherlands, and was married to Elizabeth Ronkema June 3, 1867. They came to America around 1891 and settled first in Iowa and then coming to Yankton County, where they resided near Utica. Their children were Harry, John, Bert and Mrs. Stuart DeGroot.

Harry W. DeJong was born on Sept. 20, 1869 in Hijilaared, Friesland, the Netherlands and came to America in 1891, settling first in Iowa before coming to Springfield, living in various places. He was married to Winnie Busman and to this union were born Jennie Olson, William, Simon, Elizabeth Davis, Peter, Dora Davis, Winefred, Harry, John and Minnie Duckson. Harry died in 1961.

Found it on a Dutch site that has info on persons that lived in the province of Friesland only. You can search for them on www.ryksargyf.org select 'onderzoek', then 'stamboom onderzoek'. Search for BS geboorten (birth), BS huwelijken (marriages) and BS overlijden (death) and choose a 'regio'. Maybe also in 'familienamen 1811. It says that in the year 1811 everyone had to have a surname and register it. This is info concerning the official document. It's in Dutch, but maybe you'll find something. The places that are given can be of a bigger place in the neighbourhood of the birth or marriage because hamlets didn't have an archive. Like Britswerd and Hijlaard, these hamlets are in the neighbourhood of Baarderadeel.

Also try www-lias.rad.archief.nl called GenLias. It's still in a testing phase and not completed yet. But there is an English version and lots of info on Friesland. It contains official birth- death- and marriage certificates (brief versions). Enter the surnames without the prefix 'de' or 'van der' otherwise you cannot find anything there. The maximum info you can get there in one hit is 1500. Sometimes a surname is often heard in Holland. Narrow the results down for instance by choosing the province of Friesland, or a certain time period. And if you have no result, try to give less info (leave out the given names or change the spelling).

Do you know that dates in Holland are given the other way round! dd-mm-yyyy.
