Cooleeney Delaneys

From the online 1911 Irish census:

I find Michael Delaney alive, his wife Ellen Brennan deceased. There are Brennans in the Cooleeney cemetery, photos are online, but not able to decipher them well enough to see if Ellen is in that cemetery.

On April 2, 1911, John Joseph (1891) is not living with them at Cooleeney. Perhaps he's at another place working?
Son Martin, born 1892 or 1893 is living with the family.
Son William, born 1894 is living with the family
Daughters Katie and Mary (listed age is 14 for both, so 1897?) are living with the family.

The entire family are listed as "farm laborer" for occupation.

I know that John Joseph Delaney (1891)emmigrated in 1913 to New York, where he lived with his uncle, John Joseph Delaney. The uncle later either at that point or later had a child named Martin, so it's obviously a family name (as is John Joseph!).

A source has informed me that this particular Cooleeney family is in "the rate book" for 1898 on a one-acre plot of land.

The 1911 census indicates they have a piggery, a chicken coop, and that the building has two windows facing the front of the house. Martin and his father were illiterate, the other residents were able to read and write.

Any connections? I'm particularly interested in Ellen Brennan's line. The same source informs that at that point in time (1911) there were many Brennans in the next townland over from Cooleeney, but that there are none left now.
Hugh Delaney in WW II

I found an old photograph of a U S Army soldier with the name Hugh Delaney written on the back. It was in my uncle's things, Charles Minor, who was killed at the Marshall Islands in 1944. There are tents in the background so believe it was taken at a camp, unknown which one, about 1941. Does any of this fit anyone's family member? I would be pleased to be able to put the photo in the hands of Hugh or his family.

He sites his children as: (first wife) Joseph Dulany, William Dulany, Daniel Dulany and Thomas Dulany (second wife) Elizabeth Dulany, Dennis Dulany, and John Dulany.

Some researchers place his date of dea th 4/4/1738, Baltimore
Co, MD
Some researchers name his father- Gideon DeLaune, b. abou t 1636 of France.
According to the book DULANY-FURLONG & KINDRED FAMILIES (Mc Clain Printing
Co., Parsons, WV, 1975) written by Roland Dulany Furlong, Thomas Dulany,
and his wife, Sarah, and son Thomas came to American from Queen's County,
Ireland sometime soon after the arrival in 1703 of his older sons,
Joseph, William and Daniel. It appears that the three brothers came to
Port Tobacco, Maryland in the spring of 1703 as indenture d servants. In
order to pay for the cost of passage, they were bound in articles of
redemption to the captain to be sold at this discretion unl ess they could
make suitable terms with a planter to pay the cost of their passage. On
arrival in the colony, Joseph served an apprenticeship in a doctors
office in Port ?Tobacco, MD; William was a school teacher there, and
Daniel studied law in the office of Col. George Plater of Saint Mary's
county, MD. Evidentially, the mother of these older sons had died, and
their father Thomas, had remarried - Sarah. Much has been written about
these three sons, and their descendants. One book is The Dulanys of
Maryland by Aubrey C. Land, The Johns Hopkins Press, Baltim ore, MD, 1955,
1968. Daniel (the elder to distinguish him from his son, Daniel, the
younger) laid out the plan for what is now the town of Frederick, MD, in
1745, and was instrumental of the settlement of that area.
The will of Thomas Dulany, the immigrant, was dated 3/5/173 8 and recorded
in Baltimore Co. MD.
an inventory of Thomas Dulany's personal estate taken 4/17/ 1739, show a
value of 443.19.4 and 1/4 pounds. A partial list of his possessions
included the following: Three slaves, one indentured servant, five
horses, eleven cows and heifers, ten steers and one bull, eight sheep and
six yearlings, and twenty-four hogs.
I am trying to find information on Fannie Delaney Bridges. According to my information she was born in Angelina County near the town of Manning, TX in 1842 and she married James William Bridges around 1860. This is just from accounts of my great-grandmother Ella T. Rissie Bridges McCabe. So I wonder if it was really Tennie instead of our information that says Fannie that married James William Bridges? I don't know her parents names.

I am seeking information on my step-great-great-grandmother, Katherina Delaney, 1832-1871. She was born in Ireland and married Joseph Klein; they had a son, also named Joseph, who was born in Illinois ~1862. The family settled in Potosi, Grant County, WI. Katherina is buried at St. Thomas Cemetery in Potosi, but I don't know anything about her except that she was the first wife of my great-great-grandfather.

I love sharing information too, so don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, either.

Ruth Ann,
William D. Delaney was my greatgrandfather, also. His son John Burns was my grandfather. William D.Delaney's father was Charles H. Delaney b.1810 MS. His bro.s were, James,Jeremiah,Theophilus, and a sister, Matilda Jane. Charles and his wife,Frances and their children and his bro.s, James and Jeremiah came to Texas in 1835 through Nacogdoches and then to Bevil Dist.(Jasper)in 1836. They came from Louisiana. You can find Charles H. Delaney and family on the 1850 census for Angelina county. William D. was not on the 1850 census because he was born after the census was taken. He is on the 1860 census in Trinity County, TX, listed as 10 yrs. old...His mother Frances is listed as head of the house. Charles may be dead or in the War. Hope this helps. Jean Pace can tell you more on Jeremiah Delaney , he married into her family. She is in Jasper, Texas. I think you are T.C.'s daughter, so that makes us cousins once removed?

I'm wondering if it was actually Delaney. Briget lived from 1864-1945 -- 3 siblings were Michael Brady (1872-1901); James P. Brady (1870-1893) & Sarah K. Brady (1867-1903). I saw the Mayo Brady/Delaney connection & thought I'd ask.

Have confirmation that these two (William and John Joseph) were brothers, and have a copy of William's police file and photo. He was a conductor on the railroad prior to joining the NYC Police Dept, where he worked until retiring in the mid-1940s.

William was married to an Anna (Ryan?) had four daughters, Helen (later Mulligan), Mary (later Doherty), and Catherine (later Troy) & Anna (later Schwenn or Schwinn). Anna and Catherine were twins.

Second marriage in 1947 to a Mary (no last name). Mary was reported as deceased in 2006 in New York. It appears only two of William's daughters were still alive at that time, although it looks as if William left many grand-children/ great-grandchildren.

Have a hunch there is a sister to John Joseph and William - have found a likely person in the passport applications, but cannot prove a relationship. Any of these people ring any bells?

JAMES F.T. DELANEY

I'm looking for any information on the life of James F.T. Delaney, I know he was raised in New York, married Regina M. Quinn and had 5 kids with her. I also know he worked in the legal system, either as a defense lawyer or a public defender. He died in 1985 after he found out who his birth parents were but he never shared that information with us. That wouldn't be a big deal to most people but both of my grand-fathers were adopted so I can't really say what my lineage consists of. If there's anyone out there that can help I'd appreciate it.

James Delaney, born Boston c.1850, served in British Army in Afghanistan

Hi,

I'm looking for anyone who may know anything about a James Delaney, born Boston, MA, or thereabouts to James Delaney and Ellen Forsyth (possibly).

His parents would have been British (including Irish, Ireland being part of the UK at the time) - he states on census returns that he was a British Subject, even though born in MA. He returned to Britain at some point and joined the British Army, possibly serving in Afghanistan, probably during the second Anglo-Afghan War in the 1870s.

If anyone knows of any likely candidates, or any online source of MA birth records for this period, please get in touch.

Thanks,

John Clark

Hi, Mickey! My post has been up for over seven years - this has to be a new record!

I have since learned that my William Delaney's wife was (maiden) named Helen Vogt, and her mother's maiden name was Hannan.

Does that fit with your family?
