Hi Sue, I hope that you can help me. My mother's father was a direct descendant of the DeLange frech hugenots that came to SA. We have however been unable to trace the family as I don't know where to begin. My grandfather died when I was only 7 years old and they were not a close family so my mother has no contact with any of her cousins. My grandfather was Stephanus Jacobus de Lange (from the Standerton area). as far as I can ascertain he was the youngest of 9 children according to my mother

My grandmother was Elizabeth Eunice De Lange (born sometime in March around 1910) and she was born in, I think, Cradock. I think my great-grandmother was a Nel, first name Maria? My great-grandfather's first name was Lukas.

I'd love more info if you have any.
Regards,

Cheryl

I, too, found the same obvious error. I have also found some trees that show a birth year of 1610 and death in 1693. Now my problem is that his father is suppossedly Nicolaus (DeLaanghe) 1600-1963) and mother is Margaretha Mertens (1602-1654). The dates pose obvious problems as parents. A possible brother is Frans DeLange (1627-1693). Plus, some of the trees I found seem to treat Frans and Adriaan as interchangeable. This most obvious when you see they were both married to Anna Schoonbroeckx in 1664. So far, I've been unable to unravel these contradiction.
BTW, My mother's family were the DeLongs from Champaign, IL.

His sisters name is FRANCINA F. F. (sp?) married surname VICTOR. One of his half sisters is Susan. I will be pleased receive any information about his family.
Adriaan Adriaans DELANGE Netherlands

I am looking for above's birthdate. I can only find it listed as 1907, but his death is listed as 7 Sept. 1693. It would make sense to put his Birth at say 1630's or so but have nothing to confirm this. He is born in the Netherlands (Holland, Reusel-de Mierdea, Noord-Brabrant) and dies in Zandhoven, Antwerpen, Belgium. Wife is listed as Anna Schoonbroeckx B 1620 D. 1693. I was hoping, (as I have run into this many times) someone could tell me when dates like this are so clearly incorrect what would be the right thing to do? I see in the family listings they are all saved as info for the person. So is it better to save incorrect info rather than turn away info included that may be correct? I am wanting to confirm conflicting info before entering into my tree but perhaps it's not the way to go? Thank you so much, would appreciate any advise from some well seasoned researchers out there :)

There is another great family tree site where I not only got some good info but the gal who administers it allows you to add whichever parts of your family tree you wish. I put in lots of my ancestors. She is in Korea. I think she is an instructor or professor at a university. In any case she has lots of dutchies there. She is at http://www.genealogy.henny-savenije.pe.kr/index.htm You might find some connections there.
Good hunting

I notice you mention Groningen. I am looking for connections in Holland and Australia to Herman de Lange apparently he and his family were caught up in the early 1800s revolution period and as an orphan he sought shelter in a monastery in Granma, Belgium where he was brought up. Herman married Gaziena Hoogeboon (from Groningen, Holland) in Hague, Holland. Her father's name was Henry Hoogeboon, mother's name Catherine Tweehnisen. Their son John married Catherine Murray and they migrated to Australia with their children John, Bernard, William, Heindrick (Henry) and Mary. They settled in Queesland.

You know what: I think that book was in error when it said Fanny's family was the Spaniers--at least I don't think it was her "maiden" name. Maybe her mom remarried. But I just found her marriage registration, which lists her maiden name (Heukels):

Groom: Samuel Hazewinkle, age 50, b. 1825, NL
Bride: Fennuigp (!) Delange Henkel, 40 years, b. 1835, NL
married 22 Feb 1875, Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan

I found it at http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...
Type in Samuel / Hazewinkle / Kent, Michigan (wait for the correct place name to come up in that last box and click on that). You can look at a copy of the original Michigan Secretary of State entry also and copy that. At Genlias I found Willem and Fem's marriage:

Source Civil register - Marriage
Archive location Historisch Centrum Overijssel
General Number of finding aid: 123
Item number: 07477
Municipality: Kampen
Type of record: Huwelijksakte
Record number: 84
Registration date: 18-11-1858
Groom Willem Hendrik de Lange
Age: 33
Place of birth: Vlissingen [Zeeland]
Bride Femmegien Heukels
Age: 23
Place of birth: Kampen [Overijssel]
Father groom Jan de Lange
Mother groom Elizabeth Jacoba Smit
Father bride Jan Heukels
Mother bride Aaltje de Waal

I'll look up some more tomorrow if you like, but please contact me at carlsonjm@hotmail.com
Also, please give me a link to your on-line tree so that I don't have to search for it. :)
Joan
I thought I had found Willem and Femmegien's marriage, but her family name was wrong (Heukel instead of Spanjer). I'll keep looking. I see their immigration and Fanny in the 1880 and 1900 census (remarried and widowed), and also Fanny's and son Carel's burials. I imagine you have all of these, but I'll paste the transcriptions:

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: H A De Lange [WH De Lange]
Arrival Date: 16 Jul 1873
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1825
Age: 48
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Destination: United States of America
Place of Origin: Holland, Netherlands
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Dutch
Ship Name: Rotterdam
Steerage
Port of Arrival: New York
Line: 34
Microfilm Serial: M237
Microfilm Roll: M237_378
List Number: 719
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States
Other family members:
Pemmetye [Femmetje] Lange 38, b. abt 1835
Jan Lange 11, b. abt 1862
Willem Lange 7, b. abt 1866
Karel Lange 3, b. abt 1870
Blendrite [Hendrik] Lange 11m, b. abt 1872

1880 United States Federal Census
Name: Fanny Haasewinkel
Home in 1880: Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan
Age: 46
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1834
Birthplace: Holland
Relation to head-of-household: Wife
Spouse's name: L.
Father's birthplace: Holland
Mother's birthplace: Holland
Occupation: Keeping House
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Female
Household Members:
L.
Wow... thank you
My family tree is public if you care to take a look, but here is the line I'd like to find out more about:

Willem Hendrik de Lange (b. Aug 10, 1825 Netherlands / d. Jan. 28, 1874 Grand Rapids, MI, USA) He immigrated in 1873 with his wife and 4 sons

There are letters he wrote back to his employer, H. Houck a notary in Deventer describing his journey to America. Here is the link that will take you to his letters:

http://books.google.com/books?id=QfpaCcsB4vEC&pg=PA408&a...

Femmetje (Fanny) Spanjer - Willem Hendrik's wife - (b. abt. 1835)

Jan (John) de Lange - oldest son - (b. I haven't been able to find any more information about my family before they immigrated to Michigan and would love to learn more.
