Hello
My name is Janis Delaney. (Delany) I am looking for information on my great great grandfather. I believe his name was william and his son was Jacob (born 1812 in Penn. USA) I am not sure if Jacobs father's name was william but it is begining to look like it. I William faught in the Rev. war 1776 so he must have came before that date to the USA. I cannot find and record of ship doc. to support that.
Would you know anything? Thanks

Dear Fiona,
I'm sorry I have not responded sooner. I actually did not see this email until today. Hopefully, you still have an account and will receive this. I would love to be a pen pal and discuss Delany Family history. I have been tracking my Delany relatives for some time. I have confirmed William Henry Delany who married Ellen Murphy in Oldham, UK around 1854. I will have to search my records. They had twin girls shortly before they departed to the US around 1856. I have the name of the church and drove to the area to search, but the search was locked tighter than a drum so I could not get further information. I know the name of the ship. There was and Eliza and a Mary traveling with them with the same last name. Eliza may have been a sister. I believe William's father was Luke Delany born about the turn of the century, but died in the 1830's probably a short time after William's birth. I found William working in the Cotten Mills in the Manchester area. I have the name of the cemetery where Luke was burried, but when I went there, it was a shopping mall. Luke was supposedly from Ireland, but this is where my trail ends. Ellen Murphy was also from Ireland, but I do not know where. William may have been born in Ireland, but I am not sure.

William had several children. One, Leo Delany married a Julia Cummins, daughter of Bridget Hannah - an orphan from Ireland and Thomas Cummins, also from Ireland. I believe Bridget was from Cork, but I have no proof. I have no clue about Thomas' origination.

My husband also has a small Irish link. His GG grandmother was a DunLevy.

Again, I hope you still are a member of ancestry.com and get them message and will write back. My current email is KAMeyer@rocketmail.com

Dear BigMomma...from Washington State...sending a big Happy July 4th to you & your family!!!! Thank-you for the Practical "Heads-Up"...a little practical life experiences always "over-comes" theory, concepts and the abstracts in thought. But my only come-back is the shortness of life during the early 1900s with families being wiped out by T/B...the Flus...Polio, not even mentioning the high rate of stillbirths etc.We've come a long way in the last 100 years just in the medical fields...with the new drugs etc. And I know...being reminded thats why families hd so large families b/c of the large death rates within families..."it counter acts the lack of birth control etc. BUT MY REAL PROBLEM is trying to discover the relationships of people suddenly showing up without a LABEL as daughter out-of-wedlock...or younger sister 20 years younger etc. etc. etc. Kind'a drives me crazy...1880 an "adoptive daughter (Mary Delany 16 years olde born abt 1865 in Ireland)shows up [in the 1880 Worcester, MA. Census Forms]also with a Patrick Delany (no age) he later dies in 1887 no age on burial forms these two individuals are living with a Ellen Traverse (Delany) Leonard on Washington Street, Worcester, MA. (itsw says on the 1880 Census that Mary Delany is an "adoptive daughter" to Michael Leonard the husband of Ellen Traverse Delany...who was born abt 1840 Ireland and married Michael Leonard abt 1868 and there's no mention of a Mary Delany or Patrick Delany in the 1870 Census. No Immigration Data yet for Ellen T. Delany (1850)?? possible year...even though CENSUS Records for YEARLY dates is rather UNACCURATE...Everyone seems to add years on to appear younger then they are...!! Thank-you BigMom...any "New Insights" would be appreciated!! peace, jim delaney.

Sorry that you took my comment negatively...I was referring to Eskimos as a "hardy" group of people...people who survived a truly differcult environment.Please tell me - "Is the weather in Ireland milder than the Winters along the Northeast Coarst of Canada?" And believe it or not...If it wasn't for the Irish..or the Scots-Irish...there would not be a USA today. And yes..."it was "tough" to become an independance nation...its strange your language against English(Limees?), when you stated your family was a Loyalist of the Crown, putting down the "States" as "stupid"(correct spelling). And your view of True Irishmen would be interesting...(I am open to your debate without the verbal slurs.) And again I'm sorry that you got ticked off...a little humor works-we all have bad days.peace, jim delaney.

He immigrated to England and married Margeret Mansell in 1800 in Westminister, Middlesex, England. They had a son Patrick Delany in 1812.
Hi Jodie,
I've just finished an email to you. Pressed wrong key and disappeared.
I have placed you but would like to know your name and who your mother or father are. I met William in the fifties at Green Lane Hospital prior to his death. My mother Hilda also knew Pat. I knew Owen(who has the large sporting complex in Taupo named after him) and Ted who had the Delany family bible.I also know Buddy in Auckland. Saw him in 2009 at a funeral.
I am also in contact with Kathleen Dowd-Barton in Peru. She is one of 4 children of Ed & Mercedes Dowd decendants of Mary (Delany)&Robert Reynolds who emigrated to Argentina in 1902. I have been promising to make contact with Myles McCarthy for ages,also of Williams family. Kathleen is in contact with him so we will now link through the Peruvian branch.
I was married to a Peruvian lady for 24 years and visited twice and now when I visit again to see my inlaws I have family to visit.I'm looking at the descendants book now so I really need to know where you fit in Family 2.I live in Sydney,have done for 40 years but get back to NZ quite regularly.Hope to hear from you and will put you in touch with Peru after your reply. Regards Frank.

I've also got a copy of the Reunion book that you've mentioned (although I myself didn't go to the reunion...my father did though). I would be very keen to exchange any information on the family that you may have.

Regards,

Jodie

I am the son of Hilda Barry & Grandson of Anne Elizabeth Barry nee Delany. Anne was the 8th of the 13 living children.I was fortunate that my mother Hilda had huge knowledge of the Delany family and through her and my grandmother I knew some of the first generation.

I thought the same...and found out I was wrong with faulty reasoning..."Just because doesn't cover all the bridges...Just B/C the name here in the States since 1881 was spelled "Delaney", did not remain the same in the IRISH records...where with "proven records" indicate that the name was somehow mis-translated but Delany became Delaney with the trip "over-thee-pond". peace, any help or input with previous posts here...would be greatly appreciated. jim delaney.

I know of a Ellen T. Delany (b-abt 1844 Ireland) marrying a Michael Leonard (b-abt 1841 Ireland) in Worcester, Massachusetts abt 1868...had 4-5 children. Both died in 1910, Worcester, Mass. Buried St. John's Cemetery. They were related somehow to my Patrick H. Delan(e)y (b-March 17, 1862-Queen's County/Laois)/
Note: I write Delan(e)y "this way" to indicate that the Irish records spell our FAMILY name as Delany...and in the Naturalization Papers (Oct 1884) the Americanization of Delany became Delaney. I trying to find the IRISH RECORDS of Patrick's Emigration or is "It" called Immigration TO the USA. Supposely he arrived abt March 8, 1881 in NY, NY, USA. [the LEONARDS & DELANEYS lived at the same address: 180 Washington St. Worcester, Mass. for about 5 years LEONARDS owned the MultiFamily (4) Home.
If you have any data or you can help out here-its appreciated and thank-you.
Peace, jim delaney.

HiPatty

I lived in Addergown before moving to England- Im now back in Ireland. I knew Michael Delaney - he was in his late thirties in the mid fifties and is now unfortunately dead. He was unmarried and it appears he was the last of the Addergown Delaneys. He had another brother who emigrated to England . His sister married locally and I believe her family - the Daltons are still in the general area.
here is the 1911 cencus for the delaneys
hope this helps
daniel
* Home
* 1911 Census, Ireland
* Search

Search results

Displaying results 1 - 10 of 11.
Thank you so much!

Yeah i am a little confused because the 1891 census says his parents are from Quebec but the 1881 census says he's from scotland and his wife from ireland...

From the St. Joachim parish records:

Louis Brown, baptized 21 April 1863, son of Andre Brown & Catherine Delaney; sponsors: Louis Racine & Odile Guerin

Louis Aldred Brown, baptized 19 March 1871, son of Andre Brown & Catherine Delaney; sponsors: James Brain & Victoire Marquis.

Marie-Louise Brown, baptized 27 October 1873, daughter of Andre Brown & Catherine Delaney
(On the above record, Andre signs his own name as Andrew, which is likely his real given name, being from Scotland, which became Andre when he moved to Quebec).
