Looking for Delaughters in New Orleans

I'm looking for information on my husband's biological family. We met his biological mother about 3 years ago, but already lost touch. We just want to research the ancestry...but very difficult without knowing his fathers parent's names, etc. We do know his name is Thomas E. (I think Edward) Delaughter and he's appr. 61, his wife is Pamela J. Delaughter (appr. 58). They have been living in New Orleans since 1972 until at least 3 years ago. If anyone has any leads PLEASE let us know! We would appreciate anything! Tom &amp; Pam had 4 children between 1972-1977 (2 girls, 2 boys), but were given up for adoption. My husband loves his adopted family but is curious about his bloodline.

Re: WHY DeLaughters went to Arkansas

My hunch is because of a family feud. In my to efforts to qualify as a Huguenot for the National Huguenot Society, I found legal papers, Edgefield In Equity, filed 17 April 1841, where John DeLaughter sued Absolom DeLaughter the Executor of George DeLaughter. Exhibit "A" was the will of George DeLaughter. Absolom DeLaughter did not honor the will. <br> <br>Here is part of what was in the legal papers: <br>"On the (blank) day of March last year the orator obtained to the age of twenty one years, and very shortly afterwards applied to the said Absolom for a fair and equitable adjustment and satisfaction of his (your orators) claim and demand under the above mentioned claim of the will aforesaid".<br> <br>So now we know the rest of the story. We also now know the year John Amon DeLaughter was born, March 1819. <br>

George, thanks for your response and the information. Since I posted my message I have found that my Martin Benjamin Delaughter was the son of Tillman Delaughter (b: 1811 in Edgefield, SC) and his father was James Delaughter. Definitely seems to be a connection; maybe Tillman was the second name for one of the sons you mentioned. I didn't recognize any of the names for your Benjamin's children but my Martin Benjamin had about 13 children with Sarah Brister, one of whom was Ferdnand Delaughter, my ggrandfather. I would like to see any other info you can share to see where the family connection is and go from there. I will be glad to share what info I have on my end.

Hi Cathy,<br>I checked and your Walter is on my family tree. His grandfather, Benjamin, had a brother named Tillman who was Martin's father. Both Tillman and Benjamin were the sons of James Delaughter from SC. Let me do some digging and see what I can come up with on Walter. It may not be much because most of my research focuses on Tillman's line, but I will be glad to give you what I find.

Cathy,<br>Since most of my research is in Martin Delaughter's line, I contacted my "Delaughter guru" because I thought he from your same line and would have plenty of research. After contacting him, the following is the info we were able to provide for you about Walter's line (sorry about the lack of dates available):<br>David Delaughter was born in France some time before 1742 but moved to Germany because of religious persacution. David raised his family in Germany, with one of his sons also being named David. In 1742, this David, who was a preacher, moved his entire family to the United States (this included some of David's brothers, sisters and their families). One of David's sons was George, also a preacher, who moved to Edgefield, SC, and married Mary Carson. They had 2 sons named George, Jr. (also a preacher in Edgefield, SC)and James. James had several sons: Thomas, David, Sam, Nelson, Tillman (my ancestor), and Benjamin. At some point James also left SC and moved to MS (possibly around 1836). Benjamin had 3 sons: James, George (served in the 7th MS Regiment) and Jess (served in the 9th MS Regiment). Jess had 2 sons, John (left MS and went to GA) and Walter. <br>Hope this helps at all.<br>Tracey

James had sons, David, Sam, Nelson, Benjamin and Tillman. I may bee of more help if you can get grandfather and great grandfather. Thanks, George Bush.

I'm helping my Uncle Bob Cox research his Delaughter ancestors in Mississippi. I came across your posting while browsing the internet for further info. His mother was Nannie Bell Delaughter, b: 28 July 1902 d: 06 Oct 1936. His 92 yr young aunt, Sarah Delaughter, is also a daughter of Walter Delaughter b: 27 July 1879 d: 23 Jan 1953. She recalls her grandfather was Jesse Benjamin Delaughter, but has no birthdate; his wife was Jane. I see in your msg that one of the Jesse Delaughters had a son named Walter. Would you please check your records and provide further info on this line? Thank you.<br> <br><br>

DeLaughter Family

Am in search of any research relative to the DeLaughter families of Maryland. In particular the family of William Daniel DeLaughter. Son Josiah Varden DeLaughter was born in Somerset Co., 1855, Family was in Wisconsin for the 1860 census, and in Iowa for the 1870 census. Have lost all my records and am working from memory. William and Maria had children George, John, seems there was one called Dock, but that could be a nickname, William, and I think a daughter. Would like to contacts any and all descendants. My line is through Josiah. Need info on his first marriage and divorce. Think the divorce was in the mid-1880's. His first wife must have been wealthy, as she left a great deal of money to their twin Children, Bert and Bertha, when she died. Need information on Bert and Bertha.
Sorry cuz, Martin also had a uncle named Benjamin, brother of Tillman. You are correct, Martin, he had 4 brothers on my tree George, William, Hirom and John. John had a son named wt Delaughter wt is a bit fuzzy on tree. James DeLaughters father was George DeLaughter. His grandfather was David DeLaughter who was born in Germany, Rhine Valley. They had France earlier from religious persicusion. I was always told they were French Hugonets. Lots of them settled here. James DeLaughter had a brother George who is my 3rd great grandfather. I know where James father is buried and would gladly show you if ever you are up this way and other Delaughter graves back to the 1700s. You will also find DeLaughters that live and came through Fredrick county Maryland they were David DeLaughters brothers children. The DeLaughters spread to Fl, MS, Ark in the early and mid 1800s. My email is <a href="mailto://sps36@netzero.com">sps36@netzero.com</a>. I can send you a copy of the tree if i can get an address. Luv to get copies of any old pics of family to. Thanks, George Bush.

Mary Elizabeth Delaughter was born in MS around 1848. Her death certificate named her father as J Delaughter but no mother was mentioned. She married Sebastian Dirr in Covington, LA in 1867 and converted to Catholicism not long after. I would appreciate any information you could help me with. Thank you.

Does anyone know of a hereditary medical condition that may run in the Delaughter family? Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome affects nerves in the extremities. CMT patients slowly lose normal use of their feet/legs and hands/arms as nerves to the extremities degenerate. The muscles in the extremities become weakened because of the loss of stimulation by the affected nerves. I understood that it was hereditary in families of French descent.
Hi, I noticed on another post where you have a letter that Savannah Beauchamp wrote, could you PLEASE send me a copy? I would love to have this to add to our search since Savannah and George were the great grandparents of my husband, Larry Taylor. Their daughter Savannah that married Jesse Taylor bore a son Fred David Taylor (who was my husbands father) and that Savannah died when he was 4 years old. He was raised my his Granny DeLalughter and Granny Taylor. We've been able to trace the DeLalughters a way back but are lost past Savannah Beauchamp. If you know anything of them please send that also. Thank you so much, Donna Taylor (I'll be glad to share what I have, somewhere I have a pix. of Granny DeLaughter and Granny Taylor, I'll hunt it and send you a copy.)
