I have some new info, but would still like to keep going if anyone has any more on this line. Annie Mae Dell's father was James C. Dell, born 1857 in Somerset, Pa. He died Jun 19, 1940 in Acme, Pa. His father was Godfrey Dell, born 1829 in Prussia (Germany) and was married to Lidia (unknown maiden name) born abt. 1839 in Pa. James had 2 sisters that I know of-Louisa and Annie E. I also have all of James C.'s children. My spelling of Geisinger was wrong. It's Guisinger. Anymore on the Dells would be appreciated.

I am looking for the Dell side of my family. My grandmother was Annie Mae Dell. She was born in Missouri, I'm told, but also lived in Pa. and Oh. As far as I know, she died Jul 20, 1969 and is buried in Cross Creek, Pa. She married Thomas I. Adams. Her mother's maiden name was Geisinger and they had a farm in Missouri. This is all I know.

I have a Chandler Dell in my database, but know very little about him. Here is the census entry-1881 ON Census, Welland Co., Bertie Twp., p. 67 #335 - Barney Dell, 48 Switchman, Mary 38, Beaty 17, Leonard 15, Chandler 13, Frank 10, Arthur 7, Eugene 5, Ella 2, all b. ON, Methodist.

This family also includes an Art. If this is your family, I have "Barney's ancestry back to the 1680's in New Jersey. Please fill me in on any info you have about him.

Hi just seen this thread, not sure if this is a help, but my Grandfather was Herbert Dell born in Aldbury around 1885? he had a brother called Sid who moved to Berkhampstead to run a removal business, I believe his sons still run this, He has two sisters one called Eadie and one called Rose who both lived in Aldbury till their death.

I have a copy of Wesley Howard Dell's parents marriage record, the birth records of him and his siblings, and the 1916 Saskatchewan Census for William and Ann Dell. I am more then happy to share. I haven't found records for Wesley Howard after the 1901 Census or any at all for Kathleen (Kay).

I hope this helps. By coincidence, Ramsey is my family name that married into the Dell line.

I'm trying to get any information on a Dell family that were in St Albans from around 1851-1871, Henry & Eliza Dell, Henry was born in West Wickham(Wycombe?) Bucks abt 1824 and Eliza was born in St Albans abt 1823, on the 1861 census they have 5 children, Harriet 13, William 11, Eliza 8, Edmund 5, Emily 2 plus an Emma Bayley 3, Henrys wife Eliza died in 1863 and he married a Sarah Willis. Fell Forty Feet

Chicago, January 10 - Peter Dell and William W. Lehigh fell forty feet from a scaffold at the World's Fair grounds. dell was instantly killed and Lehigh will die from his injuries. A third workman united the rope which held the scaffold in place, not noticing that anybody was upon it.

Regarding wives' names of Dells in England. Online family trees show wife of John Dell (1644) as Mary Robinson born abt 1648 in England. There is no wife info for Ralph Dell (1614).

I have a bit more info on the Soper'. Cora's father is james albert married sarah vrooman, his father is james married jane davis. His father is john married elizabeth price. I dont have any info on any siblings really.

Hi, my great-grandmother is Leatha Dell Warren's Brother James Arthur's Daughter. William's father is William by the same name, mother is Mary Wright. The family seems to have came to canada through New Jersey but im still trying to verify that.

I have a lot of info on them and I would love to see those pictures too.

Is anyone researching HARRIS or LINE(S) from Cherry Bounce?

My 2 x great grandparents were living there when they married in 1847. By 1851 they were resident in Drage's Yard and in 1861 Chapel St. They were James HARRIS b. c 1817 and Eliza Ann Line(s) b. c 1820. I have found some LINE(S) stuff on IGI & Ancestral File. James' father's name John according to his marriage cert whilst Eliza's father was Michael a Shoemaker.

1841 Census is ambiguous for HARRIS but I think I have found Michael LINE(S) although he seems old enough to be Eliza's grandfather! They seem to have been non-conformists.

By the 1851 Census, James E. Dell resided with Obed and Elizabeth Dell, along with who are presumed to be his parents - Horatio Nelson Dell and Mary Ewers.

With only the 1881 census summary, actual 1891 and 1901 Ontario Census records to work with, I have to wonder if James was in fact the child of Obed and Elizabeth Dell, and an uncle, not brother to Francis King Dell.

This is my reasoning:

I haven't found any records for James Elgin Dell after the 1901 census.

I have attached the 1891 and 1901 census page for Albert Eugene Dell. Hopefully, someone can help solve this puzzle.

Francis King Dell (AKA Frank King Dell) born abt 1853, Welland, Ontario

I need help identifing the parents of Francis (Frank) King Dell. I have two marriage certificates that show different names for his parents.

Francis Dell married Catherine Simpson on November 18, 1873 in Welland Township, Welland County, Ontario. His parents are listed as Nelson Dell and Deborah Dell.

Frank King Dell married Annie Marie Gibson on October 16, 1920. His parents were listed as H. N. Dell and Ms. Current.

Is this Francis (Frank) King Dell the son of Horatio Nelson Dell and Mary Ann Current?

I have found Francis King Dell on the Ontario Census for 1881, 1891 and 1911, under the name of Frank Dell. Catherine Simpson Dell died in April 1917.

Does any one have access to the 1861 census that might show his parentage? Any informtion would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Robin, I agree with you that James was a son of Obed, and a brother of Albert and Horatio Nelson. The only doubt that I have is the "James Elgin" of the 1881 census, wherein he is listed as English while the rest of the family is listed as German. That probably was based on the mother Mary Stenholdts whose name seems to be German(could that be Steinhoff?). Can we be sure that James Elgin is the same person as James E. Dell?

Francis/Frank King DELL was born about 1852,the son of Horatio Nelson Dell and "Miss Current"(from his marriage affidavit 13 Oct 1920). I believe that his real mother was Mary Adelaid EWERS, who Horatio married (first) sometime before 1849, when Frank' older brother James E.Dell, was born. 1851 Welland Co. census lists her in the household of Obed (Horatio's father)as Mary A. with his son Nelson and 2 yr. old James E. She is buried in Doan's Ridge Cemetery, Section D, Row 8B, Stone 11, "Dell Mary Adelaide/Wife of Ration N Dell/"Info cemented partially over.

Horatio married (second) to Deborah Ann YOKoM 1 Nov 1854, when Francis was only two years old. She was probably the only mother he remembered. The 1881 ON Census, Welland Co., Crowland p. 10 #55 - Horatio Nelson Dell 51 Carpenter, Deborah 48, Millie Warner 17 and Maggie May 8, all b. ON, E. Methodist. She was buried in Doan's Ridge Section B, Row 15, Stone S 7, "Aug. 5, 1832-Dec. 7, 1915." Doan's Ridge Cemetery is 5 miles from Welland.

Horatio is buried in Doan's Ridge Cemetery, Section B, Row 15, Stone S 7 "H. Nelson Dell (July 10, 1820-June 7, 1900)."

See also the The OGS Directory of Surnames-1993, p. 51, which says Mary's name was Elizabeth.

The CURRENT family lived at that time nearby in Welland County, the family having come from Sussex County, New Jersey about the same time that the Dell family immigrated, but I have not found any record of Horato Nelson Dell marrying into that family. I believe that by 1920 he had totally forgotten his mother's maiden name, if he even ever knew it. I don't have a record of a Mary Ann Current.

Hi cousin! My computer tells me that we are second cousins, once removed. Our common ancestors are William Henry and Anne (Hough) Dell. I descend from Walter David's brother Harry Hough Dell. In our family there has been a traditional tale that Walter married, went to New Orleans, and was never heard from again.

About a year or two ago, I decided to put my genealogical skills to work and see if I could find out anything about Walter and his descendants. I was able to locate each of his children (I think) and many of his grand- and great grand-children, and a lot of details about their lives. I have corresponded with Dale Harrison, whose mother (now deceased) knew Walter's daughter Evelyn and her husband Bob Salvant.

After your grandmother Martha Catherine Korbley died (sometime before Jan 1943), your grandfather married Jesker Mae Webb and moved to Tupelo, MS, where he died in 1963. His obituary told me "Mr. Dell leaves his wife, the former Miss Jesker May Webb of Lee County, to whom he was married on Jan. 20, 1943, in New Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. Leo Raymond and Mrs. Elizabeth Szabary, both of New Orleans; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Pitner (sic) of Chicago and Mrs. Evelyn Salvant of San Francisco; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren." I have located most of these folks, except I know very little about your mother or your aunt Elizabeth Szabary or your uncle William.

Your Dell ancestry is somewhat varied, and I have traced it back to the 1600's in colonial New Jersey. If you are interested, I can print out a pedigree for you and/or a descendant chart of all (that I know of) your cousins both in the US and in Canada. I would like to know a bit more about your mother.

I believe that he is a grandson of William James Dell. I think that his father was William James Dell born 30 June 1848, died 27 May 1909 in Port Dover. See the 1881 ON Census, Woodhouse, Norfolk Co. South, p. 12 #56 - William Dell, Carpenter, 55; Mary 51; Alice V. 19; all b. ON WM, and Mary Wright widow 86 b. ON Second Day Adventist. Mary Wright was probably the wife of W.J. Sr.

I have not found any ancestor connection between W.J. Sr and my Dells. Do you have any ancestors for him?

My father was Raymond C. Dell, son of John Dell who was from Germany. John had a brother Joseph who is buried next to him in St. Mary's Cemetary in South Corning, NY.

William Marion Dell 1873-1944 (IN, MI)

I'm searching for any information about William Marion Dell, born 14 Dec 1873 in Indiana, died 27 Oct 1944. Last known residence was in Spring Lake, Ottawa County, Michigan in 1930. He was married twice that I know of, and had children by both marriages. His first wife was Lola Marie Sampsell, and they had 4 children: Goldis, William (aka Paul), Gertrude "Gertie", and Marie. Family tradition says that Lola divorced William after he was struck by lightning and became physically abusive. After trying to make it as a wash woman, she sent her children to live with relatives. His second wife was named Nellie, she would have been born about 1886, and married William about 1913. They had at least two children that I know of so far, Robert E born in 1919, and Katherine W born in 1925.

I have much info about the Dell/Smout family. Bubs is actually Warren Smout my fathers brother. There is quite a story here and I'm axious to talk to other Dell and SOPER families as I have papers about Sopers - in particular Cora Soper who beame Cora Dell my Great Grandmother from Patterson St here in Simcoe, Ontario

Regarding the information from Mary McDonald on 1 Jan 07 and the name Maxey - The Dells mentioned in Mary's message are from my family of Dells who were in Florida permanently in the early 1800s. My curiosity is with the name Maxey as we also had a Maxey Dell. Our Maxey was the son of Joseph Dell who married Martha Maxey. I am wondering if these two families lived previously in the same area.
I would love to hear from anyone who can add information.

Well the information is as reliable as my cousins as I believe it all came from them. I do have the 1901 and 1911 canadian census and a marriage record for James and Sarah. I don't live there but my Dell cousins do.
