NEW INFO-Sharon Irene Dellinger

NEW INFO I am still searching for my birth family, but have recieved some new info. from Dauphin Co. Orphans Court. My Birth name was Sharon Irene Dellinger.I was born Sept.27,1965. My biological mother was born in Pa and lived in Harrisburg when I was born. She was 23 years old,
Protestant, and her occupation was Horse Caretaker and trainer also a factory worker. She was also married at the time of my birth.
My legal father was born in Virginia but was living in Harrisburg when I was born. He was 24 and his occupation was Consruction. My mother and my legal father were married on Valentine's Day but separated three months later. The record does not indicate whether or not they where ever divorced. The info. above is for my legal
father.
My mother had a son to my legal father in December of that year. He was later adopted through a private attorney. She also had a daughter to another man. She lived with that man for awhile but later left after he became abusive. The daughter was adopted as well through an agency. Subsequent to that relationship, my birth mother went to Texas where she became pregnant with me by a married man with two
children.
But no more info. is available on this man. my birth mother was 5'7" and weighed 160 lbs. She had a large boned frame, straight brown hair and blue eyes. My maternal grandmother described my birth mother as always being stubborn and rebellious. My maternal grandfather died of cancer before I was born. In September, 1966 I was declared by the Court a dependent child and placed under the jurisdiction of Dauphin Co. Child Care Services because My birth
mother hired a babysitter to watch me for an hour or so when I was 4 weeks old. My mother was not home when the babysitter arrived but the door was propped open with a coke bottle with a note indicating that my birth mother would be right back. The sitter waited two days and then called authorities. I was placed with Mr. and Mrs. Hughes
of an emergency basis that same day.
If any of this info sounds familiar to you PLEASE feel free to contact me.

Sharon
(in search of Birth Family)
Sorry to be confusing, but the upper area of Georgia opened up for settlement when the Cherokees were moved to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma). That happened in 1838, and the area was settled by whites in the next 10-15 years because of the cheap land. Union County and east was settled mostly by people who came over the mountains from North Carolina and Virginia. Further west was settled largely by folks coming up the river valleys from South Georgia.

Nels Williams was my GG-grandfather. His life in Lincoln County,NC left little evidence. I would to identify his parents. I will willingly share information with interested parties.

Nelson Williams (b 1805 Lincoln Co., NC) married 1st Rebecca Dellinger, d/o Martin Dellinger & Ann Mary Englefinger. They had four children. He married 2nd to Sally Dellinger, sister to his first wife. They moved to Union/Fannin County, GA after the removal of the
Cherokees. They had eight children. I have a great deal on descendants of this family, and the Dellinger ancestry, but nothing on Nelson's ancestry. I suspect that the father of Nelson is preacher David Williams of David's Chapel, primarily because of the proximity of the Dellingers to the chapel.

Re: Shenandoah County Frederick Dellinger born about 1791 (using 1850 census)

Did anyone notice that in the 1850 census the box "married within the year" has been ticked!!??? This means that the Mary in the 1850 census is not the mother of children George R. and Catherine. In other words, this is not Mary Fitzer.

I am looking at the Dellinger's from a different angle (the Brocies family).
In 1880 (Union township, Montgomery Co., IN) I found a Mary Dellinger in the household of Eli and Mary Elizabeth (Brocies) Chadwick. Mary was Mary Elizabeth's grandmother, she was born in Maryland. Unfortunately I do not know whether it was her maternal or paternal grandmother. Her married last name would have been Brocies or Jarvis, since it was Dellinger in 1880 she must have married again. So I started my research.

In 1870 (Xenia, Greene Co., OH) Mary is living with a John Dellinger, b. 1831 in PA. I am assuming this is her step-son but the census doesn't state a family relationship.

In 1860 (Xenia, Greene Co., OH) Mary is living with John Dellinger (*1831) and her 11 year old daughter Anna L. Dellinger. Anna was born in VA.

So I went back to Virginia and checked the 1850 census, finding Frederick Dellinger and Mary, who were married within the year. Since Frederick already had George and Catherine (living at home in 1850), this is clearly a new marriage.

So here's the questions I'm stuck with:
* what was the name of the Mary he married in or around 1849, probably in VA?
* who was John Dellinger? If he is Frederick's son, he would have been born before his marriage to Mary Fitzer.
* so was there a previous marriage?

I would be delighted if anyone can shed some light on this.

Thanks,
Paula

Does anyone have info on this couple? They married in Lincoln Co in 11/6/1826. Rebecca died and Nelson remarried Sally DELLINGER, in 1/1837. Am trying to find parents of each. I believe Rebecca is dau of Martin DELLINGER who was in 1812 War from Lincoln Co. Sally may have been her sister.
Nelson WILLIAMS parents are unk. Possibles could be David or Frederick WILLIAMS who were both in Lincoln Co in 1810 census with sons under age 10. Nelson was born c1805.

Photos of Dellinger Headstones in Avery County, NC

I am looking for anyone who has photos or knowledge of Yellow Mountain Cemetery and/or Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Avery County, NC. I found transcriptions of the cementeries here http://files.usgwarchives.org/nc/avery/cemeteries/yellow01.t... and http://files.usgwarchives.org/nc/avery/cemeteries/pisgah01.t.... What I'm unclear about is whether the headstones mention the spouses and parents of the individual or is that an addition of the transcriper. I tried to email Mark Lawson who transcriped the cemeteries, but his email is no longer good. The headstones in particular i'm interested in are

From the Yellow Mountain Cemetery
535. Thomas D.
George W. Dellinger, b. @ 1820, married to Margaret Spier

I am looking for information that confirms that George W. Dellinger who was born @ 1820 in Pennsylvania, married Margaret Spier is a son of Daniel Dellinger, b. 1 Jan 1793 in York Co., PA and died Nov. 1829.

George and Margaret had the following children:

Perry N. Dellinger, b. about July 1843 in Pennsylvania
George Chester Dellinger, b. @ 1846 in Wisconsin
Josephine Dellinger, b. @ 1848 in Wisconsin
Daniel N. Dellinger, b. 25 May 1850 in Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin
Jennie Dellinger, b. @ 1859 in Wisconsin
E. Benton (at least that what it looks like to me in the 1880 census) Dellinger, b. @ 1863 in Wisconsin.

George W. Dellinger can be found in the 1850 census for Ceresco, Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin, as well as the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses for Ripon, Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin.

Daniel Dellinger and his wife Christine Keller did have a son, George who was born on 21 June 1820 in Windsor Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania and was baptized on 24 Sept. 1820 in the Canadochly Lutheran Church. And according to the administration record, OC-Q 135-136 from York Co., Pennsylvania, dated 5 April 1830, George Lieberknecht was named guardian of George and his younger sister, Leah. George Lieberknecht is a first cousin of George and Leah. Other than this information I have no information on George, son of Daniel.

There is similarities between George son of Daniel and George husband of Margaret Spier such as they were both born in 1820 in Pennsylvania, but is there any proof that the two Georges are in fact the same person?
Clara Frances DELLINGER nee DEMANEAT d. 1910

Batavia Daily Newspaper
Genesee County, NY
March 2, 1910

HER DEATH CAME SUDDENLY AT ABOUT 11 O’CLOCK THIS MORNING
Mrs. Clara Frances DELLINGER, wife of John DELLINGER, died at her home at No. 25 Bank street this morning at 11 o’clock as the result of a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. DELLINGER had enjoyed fairly good health and was around the house until Monday, when she took to her bed. The paralytic attack came at 7 o’clock this morning.
Mrs. DELLINGER was born in the French province of Alsace-Lorraine on August 18, 1833. She emigrated with her parents, who were French and named DEMANGEAT, when she was a child and settled in Sheldon, near Strykersville, Wyoming county, coming to Batavia in 1855. She was married to Mr. DELLINGER on New Year’s day, 1856, in St. Joseph’s church, Batavia, which then stood on Jackson street, and their golden wedding was observed four years ago. Since her marriage she had resided in Batavia continuously, Mrs. DELLIINGER was a member of St. Joseph’s church and for many years was active in the benevolent work of the parish. In her home life, she was retiring, but she endeared herself to a large number of friends who will regret her death. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
Mrs. DELLINGER is survived by her husband; two sons, Edward J. DELLINGER and Frank DELLINGER, and three daughters. Mrs. William F. HAITZ; Mrs. George P. THOMAS, and Mrs. Charles F. THOMAS, and five grandchildren, all of Batavia.

Dellingers of Southern York County PA
03 Feb 2009

Harry Clarence Dellinger of York County Pennsylvania

A mistake in records and now a perpetuated mistake in genealogy researchers continue to list a wrong person with a family. I realize that research in a family history is a long hard process and takes many hours of reading papers. The quickest way is to rely on others information gathered via the internet. If the information looks right and has dates and names that seem to match then it is considered fact and the information is passed along without much debate. When a mistake is discovered and more research is conducted, one may also find official records are distorted in certain facts. Here is a circumstance that meets these criteria’s.

Why the records over-looked Harry Clarence Dellinger is unknown but here is a mistake (omission) in the 1880 Federal Census. William Henry Dellinger is not the son of Michael and Anna Mary Dellinger. W.H.D lived on the same road as the Michael Dellinger family and is listed in the Barton and Leah Dellinger family. He was born the same year and a few months apart from Harry C. Dellinger. As an adult W.H.D. moved into Lancaster County, PA and the 1900 census records show him as head of the family.

Michael and Anna Mary (Paules) Dellinger’s son is Harry Clarence Dellinger born 25 March 1875. H.C.D. moved into Southern York County and married Gertrude Sophia Hersey, 04 October 1900. The family moved about the York County for a few years and finally settled in Stewartstown PA and remained until death.

In the collection of papers, handed down to me by “Grandma” Gertrude S. Dellinger, there is a Marriage License with Church Certificate, Death Certificate and entries in the Family Bible written by Gertrude naming Harry. Of course there is a burial plot in Stewartstown Cemetery with the tombstone indicating the final resting place of Harry Clarence Dellinger (25 Mar 1875 / 10 Oct 1950). Unfortunately there isn’t a Birth Certificate or Social Security number found but I’m still looking.

In conclusion of this paper I wish to state for the record that Harry Clarence Dellinger b: 25 Mar 1875 York County PA / d: 10 Oct 1950 York County PA and married 04 Oct 1900 Gertrude Sophia Dellinger b: 18 July 1879 York County PA / d: 19 Feb 1973 York County PA. They had 10 children of which my father is Emory Spurgeon Dellinger b: 31 January 1910 York County PA / d: 03 Dec 1995 York County PA.

Written by:
David A. Dellinger

Visit more at my Yahoo group Dellingers of PA....
dellingersofpa-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Dale,

Thank you so much for the information you supplied. It will be a really big help. I am new th genealogy and still have a lot to learn.

You ask about ELton V. Dellinger. I have her being born 19 Feb 1867 and died 9 Feb 1891. She is buried in Cedarwood Cemetery in Edinburg, Va. She died of TB at the age of 24 and was my grandmother's mother. My grandmother was a year old when she died. Her husbaned John E. Whetzel couldn't deal with the grief(as the story goes)and split town. I believe they were living in Ohio when she died. My gm was born in ohio. Elton also had a son named Chester P. Whetsel who died in Licking County Ohio in 1953. You will find Elton and sibs on the 1880 Ohio Census under Geo Delinger (use 1 L). On that census they have the middle initial of Sarah as an S which we know is wrong.

Sara Elizabeth Barr was born about 1841 in Woodstock, Shenandoah County Virginia(no other information). Her Father was Stephen Bond Barr who was born 9 Jun 1803 in Winchester, Frederick County Va. He died 15 Jun 1860 in Woodstock, Va. He Married Rachel Caroline Hester on 1 Nov 1824 in Woodstock, Va. Rachel was born 11 Mar 1802 In Woodstock, Va died 15 Jun 1882 in Amboy Township,H?, Michigan

I live close to Woodstock and will be doing on site research when the weather turns better. If you would like to send me an email to Pat_k8pc@Yahoo.com I will be happy to update you on Sarah and send you a photo of Elton's gravestone.
Shenandoah County Frederick Dellinger born about 1791 (using 1850 census)

Hello from another Dellinger. I am trying to connect my 3gr grandfather, Frederick Dellinger, to the original George Dellinger and his three sons. My Frederick was born abt 1791or 1797 depending on what census you are using and died abt 1875. He married Mary ? and she was born abt 1810 and d:1873. I do not have a marriage date. They are reported on the 1850 census to have two children George age 11 and Catherine age 7. There is also an Eliza Barr age 17 living with them.

Frederick’s son George b: Jan 1839 is my 2gr grandfather and he married Sarah Elizabeth Barr B:1841 on 25 Oct 1860. They had 4 children Elton V. daughter, Charles, Carrie, and Cora.

I'm not sure I can add much more to the Dellinger family information than what was in the two previous posts of(10/4/08) and (11/27/08)but I am closely related to all four families you mentioned. John Paul Meyer, b.1919 was my father, John Frederick Meyer and Prudie (Boyer) Meyer my grandparents and, Laura Sophia (Dellinger) Boyer was my g-grandmother.

I have some information on the family of Frederick Meyer, who was my father's grandfather and some on the Boyers, if you are interested. I also have some on the Thomas family and other surnames associated with them. From what I've found, all were in York area for some time.

I'd be interested in knowing if there is additional information in the family bible. I have Laura Dellinger's bible from 1914 and that is what got me into genealogy.

Hope this is of some help.

Hi! Noah A. (D was an error) and Martha Susan (Bright - not Scott) Dellinger are my g-grandparents. I have a copy of a death return for Noah - died in NC in 1909, buried in Enterprise Cemetery, Haskell Co., OK. Last I saw Martha was on the 1920 census, living in Chickasha, OK with her daughter & son-in-law, Myrtle & Alec Hinds (they later settled in Muskogee, OK).

I am interested to know what you have found in the last couple of years.
Barton Lloyd Dellinger, York Co., PA and Stephenson Co., IL

I'm looking for information on Barton Lloyd DELLINGER and his descendants. According to his parent's family Bible, Barton was born 21 September 1847 in York Co., Pennsylvania to Peter DELLINGER and Charlotte SPANGLER. Peter and Charlotte and three of their children: Barton, Rebecca and Peter Paul, are found in the 1850 census for Loran Twp., Stephenson Co., Illinois. By the time of the 1860 census Peter and family are in Freeport. In both the 1865 state census and the 1870 federal census, Peter and family, including Barton, are still living in Freeport.

Sometime prior to 1877, Barton married Julietta FREEMAN of Walsworth Co., Wisconsin. According to the 1880 census for Shannon, Carroll Co., Illinois, Barton and Julietta the following daughters:

Bertha R., born about 1877 in Illinois
Iola, born January 1880 in Illinois.

On 23 March 1881, Barton and Julietta had a son named Berte. According to Berte's birth certificate he was the 8th child of Juliette DELLINGER, nee FREEMAN. Berte was born in Freeport.

On 26 August 1884, Barton and Julietta had a daughter named Aurilla Lavilla and according to Aurilla's birth certificate her father was Barton Lloyd DELLINGER, age 40 years and 6 months, born in York Co., Pennsylvania. Aurilla's mother is identified as Julietta DELLINGER, nee FREEMAN, age 32 years and 9 months old. And Aurilla is said to be the tenth children of Julietta DELLINGER. Aurilla was born in Freeport.

Barton L. Dellinger is listed as living at 73 Central, Freeport, Stephenson Co., Illinois in a 1875 city directory. His occupation is given as a mason.

I have no further information on Barton DELLINGER or his wife and children.

In 1884 Barton's mother, Charlotte SPANGLER DELLINGER died and is buried in the Freeport City Cemetery. Shortly after Charlotte's death, Barton's father, Peter, returned to York Co., PA. Barton's younger brother, Peter Paul, moved to Hamilton Co., Indiana. Barton's sister, Rebecca, married Michael Wimer in 1873. Michael and Rebecca are listed in the 1880 census for Harlem Twp., Stephenson Co., Illinois and she was in Chicago in 1895 when Michael and Rebecca divorced.

I am of the opinion that after the death of Barton's mother, Barton moved his family away from Stephenson Co. Some distant cousins, the LIEBHART family, who also moved to Stephenson Co., from York Co. around the same time as the Dellinger's, moved to Hastings, Nebraska, but I have never found any indication that Barton moved there.

Does anyone have any information on Barton Lloyd DELLINGER and his wife and children? Any information, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Roger DELLINGER
great grand nephew of Barton Lloyd DELLINGER

John Dellinger and Eliza Rankin

I am trying to find the parents of John Dellinger, who was born about 1812 in Pennsylvania. John married Eliza Ann Rankin on 15 Sept. 1842 in Clark Co., Ohio. They had the following children:

William Edward, b. 4 March 1844
S.E., b. @ 1845
John W., b. @ 1848
Sarah, b. @ 1851
Eliza, b. @ 1855
Parker, b. @ 1859

John is listed as a head of household in the 1850 Springfield Twp., Clark Co., Ohio census. His age is given as 38 and born in Penna. Also listed are, E.A, age 21, Wm, age 7, S.E., age 5, J.W., age 2.

In the 1860 census for Moorefield Twp., Clark Co., Ohio, Eliza Rankin Dellinger and two of her children, Eliza Ann and Parker are listed as living with Sarah Rankin, age 62. Sarah is Eliza's mother. This would seem to indicate that John Dellinger had passed away prior to when the census was taken in 1860.

Eliza is listed as a head of household in the 1870 Greene Twp., Clark Co., Ohio census. Her age is given as 42. Also listed are Sarah, age 19, Eliza, age 15, Parker, age 11, and Ellen, age 1.

Of John and Eliza's children, William Edward is the only one that I know married (Mary Jane Sparrow) and had children.

Eliza Rankin Dellinger married John Stillwell on 2 April 1874 in Clark Co., Ohio. Eliza Rankin Dellinger Stillwell passed away 14 June 1913 in Montgomery Co., Ohio.

One possible father for John Dellinger is Johannes Dellinger, who was born between 1761 and 1774 in Hellam Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania. Johannes died 20 April 1817 in Manchester Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania. He had a son, Johann, who was born 13 April 1812 in Hellam Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania. I have no further information on Johann. Could Johann be the John Dellinger who married Eliza Ann Rankin?

I have a William Henry Dellinger who was born about 1862 in York Co., Pennsylvania to Henry Dellinger and Elizabeth Abel. The only information I have on William Henry is that he is listed as living with his parents during the 1870 census for Lower Windsor Twp., York Co., PA. What happened to him after that I have no information. Did he go to Louisiana and meet Rhoda Ann Dunham? Perhaps, but a lot more digging needs to be done. Are there any dates on William Henry Dellinger's tombstone?
