Hello. Don't know if you're still looking for the Delmore family's Ireland but, if so, Mary Delmore was born and lived in County Roscommon--northwest of Galway--before marrying John Baier at age 18and moving to the US. Hope that helps. PS: She is my great, great grandmother.

I can't answer that as I have not found any information on Mary Delmore Hickey. So far it has been a blank wall I hit. All I know is that she married Patrick Hickey and they came over from Ireland about 1850. Those two have been hard to find info on.

I am looking for information to solve the mystery of Charles Edward Delmore. Census records say he was born in New York on 14 Jan 1874.
The story passed through the family goes like this: His mother died. His father remarried. Stepmother had son. Had trouble. Left home. Came to north Alabama. Married. Had several children before wife found out that he was Catholic, and the rest of the story. Michael and Emma are other names mentioned. Granville New York. Sister moved to Illinois.
Took his name from his grandmother.
Cemetery records list his wife's name as: Mary Ann Delmore (Quillen).
So, we believe he is Quillen, Quillan, Quinlan or McAnyofthose.
Anyone with even a sliver of information they would be willing to share would be much, much appreciated.
Thank you
Charle

Delmore is the anglicized form of Delamere. The name is Norman - or Vikings that got religion and part of northern France from the French king in lieu of raiding and plundering. The Normans as Vikings originated in Sweden and Denmark. They came to England as part of the Norman invasion in 1066 and settled near the border of Wales. You can look up the Companions of Duke William and find two brothers - but you have to look under the "L's" for La Mare. Our branch of the family went to Ireland probably with DeLacy, Strongbow, etc. in the 1100's. As you read about Irish history they are part of the group referred to as either "Old English" or Norman-Irish. Old English names were anglicized during the reign of William and Mary, hence Delamere became Delmore. The would lose everything through time with uprisings, penal laws, etc. My Gr-Gr grandfather came to NYC from Ireland - probably as a teenager as best I can tell and piece together. He was born in "Black 47" at the height of the famine.

The info I have says that the various spelling variations of this name (Delmore, Delamore, Dillimore, Delamar etc) originate from the French : "de la mer" meaning "of the sea" - so fishermen, people who lived near the sea, seamen, people who earned their living from the sea, sailors and so on. In fact the maritime connection may account for why there are so many spelling variations and why the name seems to be so widespread across the globe (in its various guises)!

Dear Debbie,

I am the great-granddaughter of Packy Delmore (I think). Sarah is my mom, and she has posted before. James, Ray, Eddie, and Donald were sons of Patrick Delmore. From what I know, Packy/Patrick passed away fairly young. He lived long enough for my mom to know him (her grandfather), but he passed more than 30 years ago.

I'm not sure if it is the same Patrick Delmore that you are looking for. You are quite a few years younger than my grandfather who would've been 81 yrs old, yet I don't think he was the youngest.

Heck, will even take help with Patrick Hickey, where from Ireland did he come?

Appears that Patrick spent time in Jefferson county for a while before going north. Like to know what part of Ireland Patrick came from and Family, if any?????

After finding your Patrick Hickey in the 1870 census, it would appear that Mary was a Delmore. I found the following for you:

1870 census, Wisconsin, Jefferson, Jefferson
Family #238
Hickey, Patrick 40 Farmer $1080RE $325PP Ireland
Mary 24 Ireland
James 1 Wisconsin
John 1/12 Wisconsin

Family #237
Delmore, Anthony 56 Day Labor $200PP Ireland
Eliza 54 Ireland
John 24 Day Labor Ireland
Isaac 21 Day Labor Ireland
Anthony 16 Day Labor Wisconsin
George 10 Goes to School Wisconsin
Martha 14 Wisconsin
Jane 12 Goes to School Wisconsin
Ellen 7 Goes to School Wisconsin

There is a Patrick Hickey listed in the 1860 census for Jefferson county, but his age is listed as 34 which would be 4 years off when compared to his age 10 years later. However, it was not at all uncommon for people to just round off their age so this may be YOUR Patrick Hickey. He is listed as an individual, with no other family in close proximity. His occupation is listed as Labor RR which could explain how he met the Delmores'.

1860 Census, Wisconsin, Jeffeson, Watertown
Family #1062
Delmore, Anthony 45 Day Labor $30PP Ireland
Eliza 42 Ireland
MARY ANN 17 Ireland
Elizabeth 15 Ireland
John L. 14 Ireland
Isaac 11 Ireland
Anthony 7 Wisconsin
Martha 4 Wisconsin
Emma I. 1 Wisconsin

Re: DELMORES (LOWELL MASSACHUSETTS)

I am the daughter of packy delmore, or patrick delmore. I have been looking for some contact since I was sixteen. I am now 65. I believe my father was packy delmore and my mother was Bertha Colby, not married due to the fact my mom was Protestant and packy was Catholic.
Please e-mail me at deborah j, Underwood at aol.com.

In those days even if you fathered a child, you werent't obligated to care for it if the father were catholic, and the mother were protestent. Dads were exempt of all responsiblity..

I have been troubled about this for a long time and I would like to get to the bottom of this mess as soon as possible.

Thanks for your help!

Debbie Underwood

I am seeking ancestry for Margaret Delmore of Springfield, Illinois. She married Alexander Moore in the late 1800's. They were involved in mining and later moved to Chicago where they were involved in a dairy. There were 12 children.

I am seeking a connection to the Rooney family since Nellie Moore the oldest daughter married Thomas Rooney in Chicago where he was a fireman.

Any help out there?

Any interest please contact me.

Best wishes.

Robert Buskas
