Edward Van Laer Lipscomb was my uncle. He died in 1965 and is buried in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. I am doing some research on his family. A search for information on Julia Elizabeth Deloach, his wife, uncovered this message. I realize that the post was made 5 years ago, but I thought I'd chance it. Appreciate any information that you could provide me.

John married James Anna Carter, their first born was Maude ~1895. John and James Anna moved to Florida around the turn of the century, lived in Plant City, Judson. Mamie was the second child and James Purman was the third. Maude married William G. Sanchez and it appears they had two daughters. Maude passed away on January 1, 1976 in Georgia.
William E Deloach in Tattnall County, Georgia

I am looking for some information on William E. Deloach in the early 1900 in Tattnall County, Georgia. At present there seems to be two William E Deloachs.

The 1900 Census shows the Wm E Deloach family living in District 129, Cobbtown, Tattnall County, Georgia. The family consists of Wm E Deloach (age 25 [birth day Jan or Jun 1875]), Mary Deloach (age 30 [May 1870]), Delmer Deloach (age 5 [Jan or Jun 1895]), Caddie Deloach (age 3 [Mar 1897]) and Mary J Deloach (age 1 [Mar 1899]).

There is also in the 1900 Census a William Deloach [William Delaoch] living in District 133 in Glenville Village, Tattnall, Georgia with his family. This is William Ervie Deloach son of Joseph D. Deloach. This family is well documented from the 1880 to 1930 Census.

William E. Deloach and Mollie Collins were married in Tattnall County, Georgia on December 23, 1896 by J. F. Coleman. The marriage was recorded on January 6, 1897. This is the first William listed above and the one I am interested in.

By the 1910 Census William and Mollie have split and Mollie is married to J W Dyess (Dice)

A futher marriage Record shows W. E. Delaoch married Ruby McCurdy in Tattnall County, Georgia on September 13, 1918. This is possibly the second William.

The second William dies in 1923. The death certificate shows W. E. Deloach died on 1 January 1923 in Glennville, Tattnall County, Georgia. His parents are listed as J. D. Deloach and Matilda Rogers. W. E. is listed as married, but no wife’s name is entered. He was born in 1876 and was 47 years, 1 month and 27 days old. The certificate was attested to by T. C. Deloach

If they are two different men no futher record of the first William E has been found. Any information on either of these William E. Deloachs that can help determine if they are the same man or what happened to the first William E would be appreciated.

Greetings All,
I am researching my grandfather George Washington DeLoach born Carter Tennessee on or about 21 March 1850 and his father Josiah born in Virginia. I am accepting that George's father was named Josiah based upon Ohio death records. My grandfather George settled in Lancaster Ohio and was raising a family by the 1880 census. I would gratefully appreciate any input.

Samuel Deloach, son of Samuel and Mary (Boykin) Deloach

Does anyone know what happened to their sons, John and Samuel? The last mention of John I can find is 26 Aug 1816, when he relinquished his share of his mother's estate. Also, Samuel is mentioned several times in Wilson County between 1826 and 1833 when various people were named his guardian.

My great-great-grandfather, Thomas Deloach, first appeared in Wilson County, Tennessee in the 1840 Census. He is in the same area (Spencers Creek and Cedar Lick Creek) where Jerusha and some of her children lived after Samuel's death. Believe Thomas may be related to this line.
Hi Kay,

Here is what I have found so far. There was a Guion DeLoach listed in the 1920 Cook County, IL census:

Household 82
Guion DeLoach 31 TN TN TN
Sylvia 24 Norway Norway Norway
LeVerne 1 mo IL TN Norway

In the 1910 census for that county, there was a Henry G. DeLoach that I suspect was the same person:

Household 2114
Henry G. DeLoach 22 TN TN TN Lodger

So far, I have not been able to find his parents.

Is this the right Guion DeLoach?

Mike

I can't find him listed in a census record or anything else.

Deloach or Butler in South Carolina?

Last fall, Ancestry.com made available on-line some death certificates from South Carolina. At that time I wrote:
Ella Goggins is buried next to her unmarried sister Lula Goggins at Chestnut Hills Baptist Church, Saluda. She is shown in the 1930 Saluda , S. C. census living with another sister, Mary Goggins Griffith, and her husband Thomas Griffith. Ella Goggins death certificate on file with South Carolina, and shown on Ancestry.com, shows she died single June 28, 1932, and it shows her mother's name as Virginia Deloach. That death certificate shows that the daughter of Thomas Griffith and Mary Goggins Griffith, Lula Berry, attested to the death certificate. It is interesting and it made me wonder if the younger Lula, who married Pressley Berry, was knowledgeable about these maiden names, and she may not have known her grandmother's maiden name, and confused it with that of her greatgrandmother.
So, I set out to find another death certificate from the same family. I mailed The Bureau of Vital Statistics for The State of South Carolina to obtain the death certificate for Mary Jane Goggins Griffith. Today, I received certificate # 20746 from that agency.
It shows Mary Griffith, township of Coleman, county of Saluda, died December 13, 1938, with a home address of Chappells, South Carolina. It reveals Mary Griffith was wife of Thomas Griffith and that her father was John Goggins and her mother was Virginia Deloach. Again, it was attested to by Mrs Lula Berry of Chappells, South Carolina. The Undertaker’s name is hard to read but it appears to be: Blythe’s Service, Greenwood South Carolina.
Now, I know that my father, Elmer Goggins, who died in Georgia during 1987 always said we were related to the Deloach family. My father had limited education and never did genealogy research, so when I began to do my own research, I always wondered why he would have known that Sarah , wife of James, was a Deloach. It strikes me now that he could have easily remembered conversations about Jane “Jinsey” Virginia Deloach (1826-abt. 1881).
It is hard for me to believe that Lula Goggins Berry made the same mistake in 1932 and 1938. Surely she would have had conversations with relatives during those years and realized that she was initially in error. I’m changing my files to reflect the name as Deloach instead of Butler, but I will continue to research the matter. In my mind, this doesn’t settle a thing about whether Sarah (1794-1870) was a Deloach. I have never seen an ounce of proof on that one.
Harry Goggins March 14, 2009 hgoggins@bellsouth.net
Slave Records for Deloach Owners

Does anyone have slave records for slaves owned by any of the Deloach family members in North Carolina or Arkansas. After several years it's becoming so frustrating to not be able to get past the 1870 census due to the slave schedules. All I can do is guess which Deloach family owned my family.

If you have any records that contain names of slaves please, please pass them along. I can be reached at tammygarnes@gmail.com. Green Deloach and family seem to be the most famous of the Deloach slaves, but there were hundreds more. Even if it's just information on where the old plantations were...anything....it would be great.

Thanks.

My records show Berry Deloach b1834 in NC had 3 children, Nellie, John D and Julia born in Arkansas, Spring Township, Jefferson County which is near Pine Bluff. Berry Deloach is my ggg grandfather. Nellie went on to marry Samuel M. Lindsey b1862 in TN. Descending down to my grandfather, Hosie Wiley.

I have no idea which part of NC they came from, however, any information you have would be great. Seems like all of the Deloach's tend to come from similar areas. Feel free to email me at garnesfamily@gmail.com. I am interested in Joseph DeLoach and his father Jesse DeLoach after they left Smithfield, NC and moved to GA. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you. Charlotte

Herb called this morning and we had a wonderful talk. I am sick with the flu. He got lots of info from me except email msmurraysc@aol.com. I am trying to get to VA to fly to TX with daughter and grandaughter to vist son. As soon as I get back about April 20 I will look for Bible and picture of Robert Marion in his Sunday go to meeting clothes. My computer died in February and it was time to upgrade. My new computer still needs a word program to work right. I lost all my info. You have done nothing wrong! Bible has marriage and death but not burial info. I have no idea where Theodore is buried. Did he live in Panthersville? If so you might try cemetery records there. You should be able to find the DeLoach homestead in the land records in DeKalb Co and the homestead on a plat in the court house. The land may have come from the Whites. It was my understanding that Robert Marion stayed after the Battle of Atlanta and married his wife or at least where he met her. Nellie and Luther G Gower are buried in Westview in Atlanta in 1975 and 1954. Two of their children are there also in same plot--Margaret Evelyn Hilley and Horace Gower and his wife Beryl. Another child Kenneth and his wife are in another spot there. Also cousin Margaret LaRoche. Ruth and her husband Rodney Boyd are buried in Arlington Cemetery in Atlanta. My dad Luther R Gower is buried in Columbia. My mom in buried in Clarkston outside Atlanta. I appreciate the info in route. I will try not to drop off the face of the earth again.

Charlotte,

I haven't heard from you regarding my last post so I hope I haven't done something wrong. We went to Atlanta late Feb and found Robert M., Thomas S. and Jesse M. Deloach graves in Sylvester Cemetery. Also found their father and mother graves in Oakland Cemetery. Took pictures of their tombstones. If you don't have a picture, I will be glad to send you a copy. Just let me know how I can email them to you. Have not found Theodore Clifford and his wife Willie graves. Do you know where they are buried? In what cemetery is your Grandfather Gower and Grandmother Nellie Gower buried?

You mention you have Robert M. DeLoach's bible. Does it have birth, marriage and death infomation?

Randy Woolley
I forgot to tell you that Joseph DeLoach's father was Samuel DeLoach b. abt 1751 Edgecombe Co, NC, d. Oct 1805 Johnston Co, NC as I have it. Is this right according to the info that you have? I have Joseph DeLoach b. abt 1768 Edgecombe Co, NC, d. abt 1820 Jones Co. GA.

I found the following on the Internet about Joseph DeLoach:

Joseph was the son of Samuel and Jerusha DeLoach of Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Joseph and his young family moved first to Wilkes County, Georgia, and then to Jones County, GA, where he was a land lottery drawer in 1805. Joseph died in about 1820. In 1832, his widow Leacy moved to Upson County, GA, where many of her children already lived.

I haven't verified this.

In regards to Jesse DeLoach, the son of Joseph DeLoach, and father of Robert Marion DeLoach, I have him born about 1811 in NC based on 1880 census (he was 69 years old). Based on the census records that I have, he was in Upson Co, GA in 1850, Tyler, Smith Co, Texas in 1860, Panterville, DeKalb Co, GA in 1870 and Atlanta, Fulton Co, GA in 1880.

Can you share how you determined that Jesse lived in Smithfield, NC? Also does Robert Marion Deloach's Bible show who his parents and grandparents were? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I need to make sure whom we are talking about. I have Robert Marion's father is Jesse DeLoach born about 1811 according to the 1880 census. I have seen it elsewhere as 1806. He married Eleanor Parker December 22, 1833. I have Jesse DeLoach's father as Joseph Deloach b. abt 1768 in Edgecombe Co, NC and died abt 1820 in Jones Co, GA. In your last reply, you stated that Joseph Deloach's father was Jesse Deloach. Either I have it wrong or you got it backwards by mistake. Can you clarify this for me. You can reach me also at rbwooley@bellsouth.net
Wondering if we could be looking for the same people. Do you have anything on an Oliver Deloach from South Carolina who later settled in Savannah, Georgia? I'm finding him in the census records but haven't learned yet how to search the slave records. He was married to Mary Clark.
Thanks
