Just wondering if anyone knows of any Indian Ancestry in the Delp/Delph of Grayson County Virginia.

If you go way back down that family line Jacob and Mary Delph are my 5th great grandparents and if I have the correct William then Jacob and Mary also your fifth great grandparents. Guess that would make us cousins from way back when ;p

I'm Looking for any information I can find on my great grandfather. HIs name is Earl Clifford Delph, he was born around 1899 and died around 1957. His first wife was a Louise Anna Hofmann, who was my grandfather's mother. I know that he got married again and had another family. I cant find any helpful information on him. Any information would be very helpful.

Who were Hugh Delph's parents? I did find Hugh delph and Barberry living as a couple in Knott County, Kentucky in 1910 and no Lula with them. I knew they didn't get married until later in Lee County. Do you have Hugh's birth and death data? I did find Barbary's headstone but didn't see anything for Hugh in the cemetery.

Hugh is the grandson of my GGGG (4th) Great Grandfather.

I'm not sure what information you are looking for on Hugh and I really don't have much but I do know that Lula daughter of Hugh is the daughter of him and his first wife Stacy Young They were married sometime before 1900 and I don't know when or where. According to census records 1920 Jonesville Lee County Lula states she is 14 years old. I do not know where she is in 1910 to help show her parents. However in 1909 Hugh marries Louisa Matlock and then in 1912 he married Barbary Carroll. If Lula is 14 in 1920 she was born about 1906 making her born before the married of Louisa and Barbary.

I would love to exchange information and ideas as I have seen a lot of information about Jacobs second family that does not make sense and a lot more about William Simpson Delph Sr. family that really doesn't make sense.

Granville Nichols and Sarah Delph was my great-grandparents. Their daughter, Lory Grace Nichols was from Wise County, Virginia and married my grandfather, Robert Lee Maggard. They lived in Letcher County Kentucky until the late 1940's when they moved to Brunswick County, North Carolina. they had thirteen children. All but two of their children were born in kentucky. Robert Lee Maggard was born in 1898 and died in 1986. Grace was born in 1901 and died in 1991.

Likewise, Conrad is the first ancestor in my line of Delp/Delph that I have been able to trace. I have not been able to research the ancestry of Conrad other than what John Blackenbaker and Dr Holtzclaw revealed in their research of the Germanna Colony. Their research only revealed that Conrad was likely the son of a Mary Delph and likely from Germany.

The Ship register for the ship St. Andrew Galley listed a Conrad Delp (Telph, Delph, Delb) from Rotterdam, Netherlands via Cowes, England arriving in Philidelphia in Sep 1737. This is coincidental with first records of Conrad Delp/Delph in Germanna, Virginia around 1740-45 as reported in the research by Mr. Blackenbaker and Dr. Holtzclaw.

Charles Delph & wife Louisa Harbold of Louisville, Jefferson, KY

I am looking for descendents of Charles & Louisa Harbold Delph who lived in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. Charles Delph died at age 61 on 27 March 1903 in Louisville. Louisa Harbold Delph, born Aug. 1848, died 14 April 1912 in Louisville at the home of her son, Charles Delph at 2125 Griffith Ave. In the 1900 Louisville census Louisa Harbold Delph is listed as having 6 children - 5 alive at that time. Louisa is living with her children: Charles Delph, b. March 1871; Ennis Delph [daughter], b. Dec. 1871; Harry Delph, b. July 1881; Hallie Delph, b. Jan. 1884; & Nena Delph, b. March 1888. Charles Delph could be the man listed with wife Pearl and children Bernice, Edith, Edward and Florence in the 1930 Louisville census. Harry Delph could be the man listed with wife Josephine and children Charles and Philip in the 1930 Louisville census. Both Charles and Harry have occupations in the plumbing business. My Gr.Gr.Aunt, Lyda Mullin, was married to William R. Harbold who was a brother of Louisa Harbold Delph. William [d.1949] and Lyda Mullin [d.1952] Harbold lived in Lexington, KY. Uncle Jr. lives in Clear Water or Fountain Fl. I always forget which. He has 2 sons from his first marriage, Kevin and Scott. He is also remarried to Brenda. His number is listed if you want to get in touch.. How are we related btw?

I have viewed the cemeteries and filled in the blanks except for Joseph and Ben. Is the marriages posted on the Knox Co. rootweb site? You have done a remarkable job on Knox Co. but I cannot find much on the Clay Co. site. Is there another site that I can research on for Clay info. Thanks for your help on the Delph family.

Sarah Ellen I have also seen her as Ellen Jane but this is Norma's grandma so she will know best. Sarah Ellen is the daughter of Millard Filmore Delph and Eday Catherine Williams. This is the same Millard Filmore Delph that was first married to Eumphemia Messer.

I really have no information on Eday at all except that she and Millard had two children Sarah Ellen Delph (Norma's grandmother) and John Millard Delph.

Cassie you have really help me get the family straight, on Clay Co. Ky. rootsweb site I find very little, of course most of the family moved to Knox Co. and this is where I find most of my info. Evaline's parents as I have them are William and Emily Smith Gambrell married in 1846 Knox Co. One other thing Norma spoke of Sarah Ellen who married Sears is she also called Ellen or Ellen E. who was her parents?

Hi, I agree. My grandmother, Sarah Ellen Delph, named her last Sears' son, Millard. She married Solomon "Bud" Sears and had John, Mellie, Robet (my dad) and Millard.

Millard who was shot and killed is the son of Thomas brother to Alexander.

Thomas Delph is buried in the Bundy cemetery and his death certificate does state Coal Springs Cemetery, I think that is another name for the Bundy Cemetery.

Thomas and Tennessee had 11 children:
Millard who was shot and killed by Charlie Brock - Buried at the Bundy Cemetery

Gilbert Delph - Buried at the Hampton Cemetery in Girdler, Knox County, KY.

Sally Delph - Died as an child when she fell into a fire - Buried in the Bundy Cemetery

Roy Delph - Died as a young boy - Buried in the Bundy Cemetery

Ellen Delph Rowland - Buried in the Barbourville City Cemetery

Perle Delph - Buried in the Bundy Cemetery

Ben Delph - Not sure where uncle Ben is buried, I would guess Hillsboro, Alabama.

Joseph Delph - Buried slate Hill Cemetery in London, Ky.

Berchel Delph - Buried in the Ottawa Park Cemetery in Pontiac, Mi.

Georgia Delph - Buried in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, Il.

Arnold Delph - My grandpa and he is still very much alive an awesome person!

Almost all of the burial places and tombstones can be found on Tombstone Central just type "Tombstone Central" into google and my site will pop up.

You are so right on the slip of the finger. I most have been sleeping not to have noticed. I would like very much to find some members of this family's burial places. You mentioned Millard your great uncle was the son of Thomas, is this the Thomas Delph brother to Alexander? They most have loved the name Millard. The DC I have on Thomas mention the Cool Springs Cem. Was Ambrose the brother to Phemie Messer Powell married to a Julia ?

Millard that was shot and killed was my grandfathers brother, not Millard husband of Eumphemia. I actually do know where both Millards are buried. Millard husband of Eumphemia is buried near the Laurel Lake Dam Bridge, 1 mile south of the bridge.

Millard my great uncle, son of Thomas Delph and Tennessee Bundy is buried in the Bundy Cemetery in Clay County. One mile past the Knox/Clay County line on Hwy 11. Here is a link to his grave:

I always said I wanted to find out where America Smith Delph and James Delph are buried. We haven't found them. I have reason to believe they COULD BE buried in the Bundy Cemetery but will never know if that is the truth or not.

You stated that Catherine Messer Smith parents were Abraham Messer and Evaline Gambrell. I think this was a slip of the fingers. Catherine's parents are Abraham Messer and Mahala Jackson. Catherine's husband, Johnson Smith, is the son of James Henry Smith and Evaline Gambrel.

Can you tell me who are Evaline's parents and When she died? She is a child of unknown to me still.

Cassie, thanks for straightening me out on the parents of Ambrose, the Messer's repeat names so often in each family it is difficult to work it out. My husband's father was born in Knox Co. son of Johnson and Catherine Messer Smith, Abraham Messer and Evaline Gambrell was her parents. The Smith's go back to Samuel's son James Henry the father of America that married James Delph. I read an article on a Millard Delph that was shot and thought this was the son of America. Do you know where Millard is buried also America?

Sorry about the wrong name. I divorced and took maiden name back. I'm Norma J. Sears again after 42 and one half years. Yes, he made me that angry.

Any way you could lead me to my material grandmother? She died around the age of 52. Maiden name Sarah Shelton b., 1883 or 1884. Married William Henson (Henry, Hence Maupin).

They were living in Clay County and lost seven children in 11920. Bessie, married by then, John, Mattie (my mom) and JJesse survied.

Found Sarah J. Maupin living in Jackson County (Pond Creek) in 1930 with John (19) and Aunt Julie (9). She was living with Aunt Julie and her husband, Hugh Fox when she died.

I have nothing on sisters, brothers or where she is buried. Lots of Sarah Sheltons in KY but not her. I think she died in 1939 in or Jackson, Laurel, or maybe Clay.

Wouldn't ask but you have done such a great job in geneaolgy and may be my only hope.

Thanks for thinking of me and grandma. You can update my information don't mind being called a Williams, but I married Daniel B. Sommers on May 23, 2002 in London, Ky. They say the third times and charm and just to brag a little he is the greatest! Since this is genealogy related, we have no children together but have had lots of foster children together. ;-)

I can help I think. I have researched the Messers for a long long time. Thomas Delph is the son of Millard Filmore Delp and Eumpehmia Messer. Thomas is my great grandpa his only living child now is my grandfather.

Millard and Eumphemia had two children Thomas and Alexander. Alexander did marry Sue Grant and they never had any children. Sue, Alex, and great grandma Phemia are all buried in Antlers Okalhoma and I have been to all of their graves.

Emphemia Messer's parents are Ambrose Messer and Clara Taylor.

You list Ambrose Messers parents as Thomas J Messer and Elizabeth Payne. This information is for a different Ambrose Messer. Thomas J Messer that married Elizabeth Payne is the also the son of Ambrose Messer and Clara Taylor. Making Thomas and Eumphemia siblings.

Yep! I think I can. It seems he and my grandmother were born the same year. Euphenia took him with her and left Alec with Millard. I don't know but surmise Thomas was not Millard's son. Maybe I shouldn't guess though.

Hi, Thanks for your post. Milliard Delph would be my great grandfather. Eupheme was his first wife and Tom and Alex were their sons.

American Smith married James Delph. They are the parents of Millard. James was a school teacher and died from illness contratcted in Civil War.

Millard married my ggrandmother Eady Catherine Williams and they had Sarah Ellen Delp (my grandmother) and John Delph. So our connection is America Smith in Clay County, KY.

Cassie Williams and her grandmother, June Delph, have a great deal of information on Smiths and Delphs. June is on Facebook so you can contact her regarding Smiths. They are half cousins or something like that.

Don't have their emails but Cassie has posted a ton of information on them so try June.

I have a DC of Thomas Delph born Dec 22, 1879 Clay Co. Ky. lists parents as: Millard Delph and Phemie Powell. Was Phemie Euphemia Messer before marriage to Powell or Delph? Also Antler Oklahoma Antler City Cem. has listings for Alex Delph with parents being Millard and Phormie Meader. I think this is Euphemia Messer. Sue B. Delph is listed parents James W. Grant, Liza Horn. Ambrose Messer parents Thomas J. Messer and Elizabeth Payne and Phemie Powell parents Ambrose Messer,Clara Taylor. I am researching this family with the connection being Smith and Messer. Hope this is of some help and also to maybe help me.

Alec was amy grandfather. His first wife was Dolly Cody. They had one daughter, Bonnie, who was my mother. Mae was the only grandmother I knew.

I don't know any birth or death dates for Alec or Mae. Bonnie was born 1911 and died 1999.

This Harvey Delph is the son of Jacob and Mary Delph he was born 1827 died about 1915 Mary Rebecca Catherine Erwin his wife is buried beside him born 3-15-1832 died 1915 they are both buried in the Rogers Brown Cemetery Corbin Ky , I know I have visited their graves .
