Hi Nicci, It's been a while since we corresponded. Have you found any more info on the DeMarris line? My G-G-Grandfather was Albert Alonso DeMaris, father to Mamie Lillian DeMarris. She was the oldest child and had a different mother, Mary Ann Edgington (I believe). I would appreciate any help.
Thanks, Debbi

I am also researching the Demaris Line.
I think most of what I have is from other family trees.
What are these books you are talking about?
I start back with Heinrich Thamer 1449, Stausbourg France/Germany; Hayman Thamerus 1520; Wilhelmus Thamerus 1556; Johannes Wilhelmus Thamerus 1576; John Wilheim Thamerus 1620; Johann Peter Thmerus 1650; Johann Heinrich Tamrus 1672; Johann Peter Tamerus DAMERUS 1729 m Anna Maria Engel Krober; Christian John Demaris 1757 m Ester May; Joseph Demaris 1780 m Ester Pierce; Charlotte Demaris 1830 illinois m. Albert Gilmore (See Charlotte, Illinois); William A Gilmore 1851 m. Emeline Watts; Arthur William Gilmore 1892 m. Wilda Hall; Merrill Wayne Gilmore 1917 my father in law. Do you have actual documented proof of some of these lines??? Would be interesting to hear from you.
Aletta Gilmore gilmore_a@hotmail.com

Verna Demaris in unmarked plot in Mason City, Iowa

Verne/Verna Demaris was the second wife of my great-grandfather, Floyd Shunkwiler. They had seven boys together.

Floyd, Verna, and 3 of their sons are buried in Elmwood Cemetary in Mason City, IA. Earl Wayne & Wanye Lincoln both have markers, but Floyd & Verna who sahre a plot do not. According to cemetary records they are buried right next to Wayne. Floyd Jr. is nearby but I have not been able to locate a marker for him either.

I am trying to save some money to maybe put a marker up for my G-Grand Father and his second wife, so other researchers will be able to locate them in the future.

Just thought I would pass this info along, in case anyone ever went looking for Verna.

Thanks,
Christine Clark-Kingston

Noticed for the first time your email concerning the surname "Demeris." My family has handed down the name as a middle name for numerous generations. The oldest connection I have is a Emma Demaris Dotson Alley Ireson (Dotson is the maiden name.) She was married to Jim Ireson in 1893 in Virginia. According to legend it is much older and we have wondered if it originated as a surname. If you ever run across any links between the families, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Amadoll

My grandfather was the son of John B. DeMaris and Mary Bean. His name was Lawrence Charles DeMaris. Mary died May 4, 1890 while John was at sea. The children were placed in an orphanage. When John returned home, his captain Lewis Scott Lee and his wife Hester Stillman Smallwood took in youn Lawrence. Nine years later, in 1899, the Lee's legally adopted him, renaming him Lewis Charles Lee. I just found out that there is a much wider family out there than I realized. I would love to have any information that anyone has on John and Mary or any of their other children, Annie, Elizabeth, Hattie and William.

I have his adoption papers and would be more than happy to share copies and other information.

Many thanks,
Bonnie Lease
bonnielease@verizon.net

I found these messages very interesting. I'm looking for the family of John and Nancy A. Owen Martin. John's sister, Mary, was married to Enoch Demeris, and I believe several family members went west from Wapello County, Iowa right after the Civil War. Another sister, Rebecca, married James Gordon and went to Oregon. A brother, John, went to Washington Territory, and a brother, Samuel, went to Oregon. I am serching for information about John and Nancy Martin and their children, Monroe, Samuel, J. Crittenden, William, Clay Deen, Serilda, Ada, and Rosa. I show that Clay homesteaded in Walla Walla County, Washington in the early 1900's, but have no other information about the family once they moved west. I'd appreciate any information about this family.

DeMerice, another Demaris line

Hi to all of you Demaris relatives. I believe that I am a descendent of the Demaris line. My ggggrandparents were John Demaris and Abigail Shaw. My gggrandfather Ethan Allan (Ephriam) Demaris (b1816)had several wives. My gggrandmother was Cynthia Ann Kennedy My ggrandfather was Charles Kennedy Demaris (born1851). Charles married Elizabeth Booth. I believe that the spellig of the name changed with either Ethan or Charles. My grandfather was James Weaver DeMerice (b1885) who married Mary Bell(Mamie) Waldo. My father, James Arthur DeMerice, died when I was a small child. My mother was Nellie Adrianna Bajema. She is also deceased. I am just beginning my search, know very llittle and can prove nothing beyond my grandfather, James Weaver My brother does have all of Furman's books but I have not had a chance to see them yet. Any help or tips on how to proceed whould be appreciated. I am amazed at the number of Demaris connections out there, as growing up, I knew no one with the Demaris or DeMerice name, other than my immediate family. If anyone out there has a connection with my line I would love to hear from you.

Thanks, Linda

Nancy Demaris (or Demeris) SIMMONS was one of my gg-gmothers.
She was born in McLean Co. IL in 1841 and died there in 1862. Her parents were Joel and Elvira (McGOWN, McGOWAN or McGOWEN) SIMMONS.

I can't find any Demaris connection in her father's family and I haven't been able to trace her mother's family.

Are there any clues here that are obvious to you serious DeMaris hunters?

Lee, in remote Tasmania
<Lee.Weller@utas.edu.au>

My grandmother Nellie Pemberton, nee Demaris

Nellie had many siblings, but so far I don't have any names. I remember an uncle who lived in California, maybe San Diego. His name was Ross. Nellie's mother was married to Harvey Rose.
I also have the name of Calso Bluff, Iowa.
Does it mean anything to you in regard of your family?
Thanks.
