Danielle -- my name is Gary DeMars and although it is rather difficult to determine if we are distantly related or not, I can offer some information that can be construed as a famous personage in our history. My side of the DeMars family came down from Quebec, Canada and settled in the Tupper Lake region of upstate NY. My Great Grandfather was Joseph-Janvier Demers b. 1813 d. 1884. He married Marie Sophie Potvin in 1864. She was born in 1848 and died in 1918. They had quite a number of children, one of which was my grandfather: Leon P. Demars. He was elected to the office of the Ways and Means committee of NY as the budgetary secretary. He died suddenly in Albany, NY and was buried in Tupper Lake, NY. In memory of him, the town named a blvd. after him that remains today -- Demars Blvd. Hope this is helpful.

In 1976, my late uncle began researching our Demar/DeMarr family and wroteletters to people that he located in the telephone book. I have a response from a lady in California who refers to the following family that has a ROY DEMAR/DEMARS

Franklin Demar (Demars) b. 1834 Canada m. Mary Coles about 1853. He used the
name spelling Demars.
Henry b. ab. 1862 (a veterinarian)
Earnsley b ab. 1864
Demsley b. ab.1866 (A man,Jack Demsley Demar resided in
Tarrant Co., Texas in 1910 and 1920 census.
George De Mars, Auburn, NY Circa 1905 (DEMARS, GIFFORD, LEDIEW)

I'm trying to find any information about George. He and my GGrandmother Maude Gifford were married (we think) in 1904 in Ridgeway, PA. Can't find proof, but the announcement was printed in the Auburn newspapers in early 1906. My grandmother, Dorothy, was born in December 1905. The only other trace is a notice that the marriage was legally annulled in 1912 as George had a living wife, Mary Lediew (which I'm assuming might be leDoux). Any information would be appreciated.

Irwin, I wrote to you in the past.
What I found on Solomon Demars, born in 1855, was that he appeared in several Census Reports. He was married to Nellie on 05 April 1880, In Barron WI, and they had one son Edward Joseph Demars born 12 May 1885 in WI
I found Solomon living with Edward and his family Laura Agnes and two children. Macy E Demars 1916 (Male) and Renee M Demars. 1019(F) born in WI. On the 1920 Census it is stated that Solomon was a widower. So his wife must have died.
Dee

A biography/family history of Joseph Demars, pioneer of Havre, MT, is included in "Montana,Its Story and Biography", Vol 3.

Joseph was born, 24 Aug 1847, in Trois Rivieres, Canada, to August and Mary Demars. August died at age 45 and Mary died at age 30. They had five sons and four daughters.

At age 19, Joseph went to Northern Wisconsin to work in the lumber camps, and in 1867-1868 in the Minnesota lumber camps. He returned to Canada for a visit and located to Montana in 1869, where he was in the ox-team freighting business. He worked for the government cutting hay and hauling wood. He opened the first dray in Havre, MT; with Zill Pepin, partnered in the first butchering business for seven years. Since he first located in the area, he was in the cattle business. Before he retired, he gave each of his sons a ranch, and they were partners in the cattle business, owning 4,600 acres. In 1918, they sold all the cattle except for 450 head.

In 1876, Joseph married Mary Ann Sovia, born in Minnesota. Demars children: George, Havre, MT; Laura, Minnesota; Henry, Albert, and Fred, Havre, MT.

I am not related.

My father is Ronald John DeMars Jr, and my grandfather was senior. I have almost no information after that because my dad doesn't know and my grandfather died. We're from Toledo, OH but my Grandpa said we still have ancestors in Quebec. So if you know anything that might help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The first one is the Demers family from the earliest up to the Flavian Demars. I am still using the Demers at this time, so as to follow the line.
The second entrance will be the Demers of Flavian and Marguerite (Audere) Andere.
Please feel free to write me direct.

I am not related to Joseph Demars. You might want to post to the Hill County, Montana Rootweb message board to contact Demars descendents. This Havre, Montana, public school website has a thumbnail sketch and picture of Joseph Demars:
http://www.lm.havre.k12.mt.us/magera/demars.html

The Havre Public Library has the book, "Grit, Guts, and Gusto, a History of Hill County", which includes a biography & picture of Joe Demars, 1847-1923.
I have come into possession of many of the above listed items. This family is from Furnas County, Nebraska - I believe Cambridge specifically. The items came from Ada Swanson Lotierzo of Tracy, CA (now deceased). Some items labled with the following names: Perry Swanson, William Swanson, Earl Perry Swanson, Paul Swanson, Hilda Olivia Swanson. Also includes Ove Anderson and Willian De Mars, Robert DeMars, brothers both served in the military in WW2. If this is your family and you are interested in having these items please contact me via my email.
Donna Youngblood

Hi Pam: Tried to contact you on the bellsouth, but it came back. I have now completed most of the work on the Flavian Jr. Demars of 1844, and will be happy to forward any info you may need. I have searched all the Census Reports, and came up with the material I needed. Yes, it is the persons that you want. He was my last one to search. Can take you back to 1525
with your ancestry.

I hope all is well with you .

Dee

I have completed the Fllavian Demars Ancestry, and the Solomon you have, as well as the other persons, are not of this family.

See the messages posted under the De Mars, Demers, Dumoys, etc.

I would be happy to help you if I had your people.
Dee
