If you could please contact me - skelly66106@gmail.com. There are still a lot of details and such that have yet to be cleared up, and most likely never will.

I am looking for a Chester and Norma Depowski that were in Chicago, Illinois around the 1950's and that possible had a connection to the Juffra/Guiffra and/Mraz families of the area. Along with maybe a connection to the Kelly family.

Dembowskis in 19th century Paris

I am seeking additional information (parents and place of birth) on 2 Dembowski males who were living in Paris in the 1860's. The men, whose names were Floryande and Casimir, were probably of different generations. Floryande Dembowski had emigrated to France about 1831 and was still living there (in Paris) in 1868. His cousin Casimir Dembowski was born about 1845, probably in France, but possibly in Poland. He served briefly as a soldier in the papal army ("Zouaves pontificaux") before emigrating to the United States in 1868.
I would be happy to hear from anyone who is acquainted with this family or from anyone who can put me in touch with a Dembowski researcher in France.

Thank you.

Teri

"A Concise History of Poland by Jerzy Lukowski & Hubert Zawadzki" Cambridge University Press, 2001
Index has dates-1822-1846
pg. 142...early 1840s. While the programme of the Democratic Society was potentially relevant to the more advanced Poznannia, the ground in Russia & Austrian Poland was less fertile for modern democratic ideas....Henryk Kamienski & his nephew Edward Dembowski, two "penitent" noblemen, espoused the cause of a peasant & of a "people's war" as the only solution to Poland's national & social predictment. Dressed as a peasant, Dembowski wandered through the villages of Galicia preaching his revolutionary gospel, only to realise that his listeners were more interested in property rights than in rural socialism. He duly felt obliged to modify his message...
pg. 143 ...peasants rallied in support of the democratic revolutionary government established in February 1846,...western half of Galicia...The Polish speaking Catholic peasants turned against the rebels & their liberal gentry sympathizers in an orgy of killing & destruction. Dembowski, who joined the Krakow revolution, was killed by the Austrians while leading an unarmed religious procession from the city on 27 February in a desparate bid to win over the Galician peasants." Not my family-looking for Cieciorka & Smeigal
I'm sorry to take so long to respond to your query. I'm afraid I don't know too much about my dad's past as we don't speak. However, I understand that my grandfathers name was Bronislaw Dembowski, He was a bit of a street shark and liked the ladies. The names you listed may be somewhat familiar to me but vaugely. I would have to look up the names to be sure. If you need me to, Reply back sometime. I was born in Milwaukee and as far as I know we are all related. You may be a cousin.

Dear Donna,
This is all kind of weird and I wasn't sure about him. I hope that you get this but it's been so long. My brother, John, and I would really like some more information about this whole situation. We knew from my mother that we have a half-brother named Bryan out there somewhere, but we had no way of getting more information since our father passed away in 1994. Please, if you get this e-mail me: xanaviconia@yahoo.com or boltsjr@hotmail.com.
Thank you so much for the reply,
Megan and Johnny Biedzian
P.S. We're very anxious to hear from you and we're very sorry this took so long, never thought anyone would reply. Thank you again.

Michael: Thank you very much for the contact info in Russia. I sent an email requesting any info they have there. On some of the grave markers in Missouri where my Great Grandfather Simon Joseph Dembowski lived and died (he's the one that came from Poznan in the late 1800's) the name is spelled "Demboski" but this may simply be a Southern pronunciation, as other official census, land, marriage records have the "W".

Any info that this may spur would be helpful!

Where did the "von" come from in your name?

Rod Dembowski
Seattle, WA

Thanks! I see that there are some other folks on this board with links to the PA dembowskis.....Perhaps there's a link between some of us in Poland, but no one as been able to link their family to my polish immigrant Great Grandfather, Simon Joseph, from Poznan....directly, anyway. One other guy did a lot of research on the name, says there are 5 branches of Dembowskis from Poland/Russia. I sure hope that someone can make a link to Simon Joseph at some point....curious if he had brothers, cousins, etc that may have ended up in the US.

Rod

Michael, have just found the Dembowski message board and am interested in the family from around Krakow area in the early 1800's. My great, great, great grandmother-Anna Lubomirska was born in 1791 and married Antony Dembowski and lived around Krakow. They had three daughters, Melania (my relation), Teresa and Sofia. Melania married a Dubrawski gentleman. Do you have any info. of this group of Dembowski's? If so where did you find it? I have been looking for many years and have found nothing.
