My Grandfather's name is Jousha McKinley Demps. I think he is from Perry, Florida. I only know one brother, William Demps sr. He lived in Clearwater, Fl. My grandmother's name was Sally mae Morrow from Alachua,Fl. My mother is a Demps, Flossie Mae Dempes. Jousha and Sally had tem children.I have heard stories about brothers that change their names from Dempsey to Demps. If this is the same family, I need more imformation on the Demps family. I think McKinley or MC ,as they use to call my grandfather,father's name was Napolian Demps and his mother's name was Angelina.

Looking for information on a group of African Americans named Dempsey who changed their last name to Demps and settled in Madison County Florida.

March and Phillis DEMPSEY listed on 1870 census in Madison County Fl
March and Phillis DEMPS listed on 1880 census in Hamburg, Madison County Fl

We are searching for Moses Demps or Dempsey of Orangeburgh Co, SC.
His wife was Olley and they had several children in the years around 1800.
One known is Porter Dempsey that moved to Gordon Co., GA 1846-1850.
