Also, I was just talking to my mom and asked her about this, and she told me that while it was a pretty scandalous thing, Anna was also living with William B. and Mourning and he was err.. going back and forth between the two. I know that's gross, but I guess it's pretty common knowledge. She said she read about it in the Chassereau family history, who we are related to as well.

So, when Mourning passed away and he finally married Anna, the boys (Redden and Malachi) took the Denmark name as it was common knowledge that the two boys were his.

I'm going to try to find out more if I can connect with Dean Iler Denmark, our last living relative in Leefield where my grandfather grew up.

Hey, no problem!! If there's anything else you want to see, let me know! When gran and grandpa died, my mother stumbled upon all of the old documents that they had gathered from the Statesboro Regional Library, so we have TONS of awesome, informative things about the Denmarks.

I'm pretty sure I actually have a photocopy of the inside of their bible, which back then, that was considered an "official document".

Hmm. This is interesting because Malachi is my.. uhh.. great-great-great-great-great grandfather (John Eldred Denmark is my grandfather). I have documentation stating that William B. Denmark was having children with Anna Moye while married to Mary Mourning Moye. Could this just be a situation of the children wanting to be called by their father's name since they were born illegitimately?

Southern family trees from back then are often unreliable. There were often counts of undocumented.. illegitimacy. Hell, people were often REMOVED from their family trees during the Civil War for deserting!

My family tree starts with William Denmark of North Carolina in 1708 as well, though.

Well i don't believe anyone is ever going to fine any proof as to what i'm reporting, because of such bad data collecting and keeping of records from back then, plus the fact that "like the people of todays world" People from back then also didn't like having to give their family history to the sensus takers for fear of mis-useage, or that somehow the Goverment was tracking them for some reason, so no i don't have any actual supporting data for anything past William Denmark b:1708 N.C. - But if you find anything that will dispute my findings you let me know and i'll be more than glad to change my family tree!... I am also bloodline connected to the Kirby's i do believe in someway!...

You did not burst my bubble. If you have supporting information to prove anything beyond William and Mourning of Hyde County, N.C. I would love to see it. I know that "we, direct family" feel certain that he came from Virginia, but have never seen anything that supports this as fact. There is also information that there were Denmarks in the northern areas of the country at that time, but there is no proof of any connection. If as you say this is your bloodline then we are definitely related and I would like to see the proof. I know several Denmark researchers who would also like to see your supporting information. Thanks

NAMES CHANGED LEGALLY IN GEORGIA, 1800-1856
One of the problems facing the genealogist is tracing persons whose names have been changed. In Georgia, alterations and changes in
names and legitimizations were made by legislative act until the Act of March 6, 1856 which gave this power to the Inferior Court of
the county of residence This Act established the procedure for adopting a child so as to render it capable of inheriting, the procedure
to change a name and the procedure for the father of an illegitimate child to render the child legitimate. The name changes listed here
give as much information as could be gleaned from the Acts of the General Assembly from 18oo to 1856. In some cases only the
previous name and the new name is given. In other cases, specifically in case of legitimizations, the names of the fathers and counties
of residence also were given. Names for which no footnotes are indicated are given in the list as a name altered and changed without a
specific reason, though in some cases it would seem that these were legitimizations. Footnote (I) has been used only if the Act states
that the child was born out of wedlock, that the father was his "reputed" father, or he was recognized as illegitimate. Where two
counties are given, the first is the place of residence of the person whose name is changed and the second is the place of residence of
the father.
SCROLL DOWN:

residence: Date of Act: 11-18-1802

Name changed to: Name changed from: State of Georgia:

Denmark, Malachi Malachi Moye Georgia 11-18-1802
Denmark, Redden Redden Moye Georgia 11-18-1802
William Denmark - North Caroliina

This is the beginning of the line as we know it. William, William bachelor Denmark, Mourning, etc. Just out of curiosity I went to Public Member Trees for the Denmarks. Over 78,000 came up. I found it amusing that William was born from 1703 to 1708. His son William b. was born from 1705 to 1743. Isn't it amazing that his son is the same age as the father, last names and marriage dates appear that have no basis. Even more so are the facts(?) that show dates going back to 1607! Where are you people dreaming up this stuff?
Support your "facts" with sources. Just because people have the same last name does not make them "kin". I really laugh when I see family lines that go back to Da Vinci, Jesus and Moses. Come on people, get real. If you are doing research base it on fact, not supposition! Don't just copy information from someone else and not know the truth.
Now I have to go, just saw a tree that connects me to Adam and Eve.

I was able to find two John Denmarks who would have been the right age. The 1860 census has one born in 1793 in New York and living in 1860 in the Schoharie (NY) poor house, blind. Myndert Bovee's father was born in Schoharie.

The 1850 census lists a John in New York City, born in Sweden in 1790 and a "performer" with several children and grandchildren living with him.

I am trying to find possible relatives of Julia Denmark b. 15 May 1817 in New York, d. 6 Feb 1889, Michigan. She married Myndert Bovee (b. 6 Dec 1818, New York, d. 8 Jan 1894, Michigan), and their first child was born in Michigan in 1838.

Hi Lea-Ann.Joseph Denmark was indeed the son of Mary Anne Whitehead and Aaron Henry Denmark of Ottawa. They had a large family and I have information on them, including some pictures.

Your contacting me is a major breakthrough on my Denmark connections, which have eluded me for years. Please contact me at cg9842@yahoo.ca. I have pictures of Aaron Henry (aka Henry) and Mary Anne and one of their sons, Henry and his wife Edith. Thanks so much for responding, even if it is ten years later! Regards, Carol

Wow... talk about strange timing that i'm replying to you almost 10 years to the day you posted this message!

My name is Lee-Ann Duff, and if I'm correct, I'm a descendant of Aaron Henry Denmark of Ottawa.

Ancestry.ca has free access to Canadian wedding records until May 1, 2011 which is how I tracked my lineage to the Ottawa Area.

I believe that my grgrgrandfather was Joseph Albert Denmark, Aaron Henry's son, who died in Walford Ontario (District of Algoma) in 1915.

I have found a wedding register with the name Joseph Denmark whose father is listed as "Henry Denmark" and who was born in Ottawa.

The only Henry Denmark I have found in Ottawa, who is also listed as being married to Mary Ann Whitehead, a name in our family bible, was "Aaron Henry Denmark" so I am making the assumption that 'they' are the same person.

According to a family story passed down through the generations, Joseph's family was not happy that he was seeing a Catholic girl and made him choose between his inheritance and the girl.

Joseph, born circa 1859, married Elizabeth Hacker, a Catholic girl, in Spanish, Ontario, Canada on October 22, 1892.

One of their children was my grgrandmother, Mary Ann Denmark Whalen, who was born in Walford, Ontario June 19, 1898 and died in Elliot Lake, Ontario December 25, 1986.

Mary Ann's daughter Edith - one of 10 children who survived to adulthood - is my grandmother.

I hope this answers some of your questions. If I have made an error in connecting our two families, please let me know. If I'm correct, I would also like to exchange information with you and fill in some gaps in the Denmark Family Tree.

Hoping to hear from you.

Lee-Ann

Looking for any and all info on this person, "No" his father is not John Denmark b:1679 England because the dates are wrong, there are several Family Tree's out there that have done just that, they have listed John Denmark b:1679 England as Francis Denmark b:1623 Englands Father, "Well your wrong" just look at the dates and you'll see, so what i'm asking is who is the real Father of Francis Denmark b:1623 England, does anyone have access to oversea's Data.

This page was found inside an Application for Revolutionary War Pension R8707(MS) for Frederick Rester who resided on the southwest side of the Great Ogeechee River during the American Revolution. Denmark lands were across the River.

If my memory serves me correctly, Rester and Denmark children married.

I am related to neither, but am interested in establishing that my ggggg-grandfather Hans Ulric Gyger(Kegar/Gieger/Gigger/Geiger) served in the Effingham Militia Unit of which Frederick Rester was a Lt. during and after the American Revolution. He and Rester were lifetime friends from childhood and received adjacent Royal Land Grants on the same day in 1767.

Any help will be appreciated.

Josephine Denmark born 1850 Snag

I have run across a little snag in my research. I show Josephine on two 1870 census'. In July 1870 she is on the Census in Pascagoula, MS with George Dailey and their son John who was abt 6 months old. In August 1870 she is on the Census in Mobile, AL with her father John Denmark and 7 of her siblings. This leads me to believe that Josephine who married George Dailey was not the daughter of JJ Denmark. Has anyone else run into this?

According to my data bank, Josephine Denmark (27 Jul 1854-19 Jul 1918) was the sixth of ten children of John Jefferson Denmark (1810-1877) and his second wife, Harriett Elizabeth Deshon (1817-1868). I have no record of any children from his first marriage to Mary Turner.

John Jefferson Denmark was the son of James A. Denmark (1774-1847) and Susannah Wise (1784-?).
I ran across you very extensive Jones family tree info. I am the great grandaughter of Adrian Jones. Everyone doing Jones research has Adrian as a female. He was Adrian Clifton Jones. The 1850 census was wrong. He was born 12 Dec 1842, married 27 Nov 1867 to Sarah Maranda Lane (Sallie) in Rankin MS and died 11 Jan 1905 in LA. I have family photos of him and grandma. His father was Sterling and mother was Mary Anne Adams. Hope this helps you with another leg of your tree.

Hi there,
I'm only just starting my family tree research so I may not be able to provide you with any information. My family tree does include a William Wigglesworth born abt 1819 with a son Joseph born abt 1851, wife Elizabeth born abt 1813 and about 5 other sons. These may not relate to the people you are trying to find but we may be on the same track. Look forward to hearing from you, Sue Cunz ( nee Wigglesworth)
