Thank you for your query. At the moment, the papers I referred to are in one of several cartons associated with my move of a few days ago, so I won't be able to give you the first name or location of the DENN referred to in my posting. As soon as I get out from under all these boxes, I will get back to you on the little bit of information that I have on DENN.

I have no knowledge of the Synnott lineage, but found your comments interesting and somewhat coincidental. My grandmother was a Denn and I have traced her ancestry to Kilkenny Ireland. Her father William married a Mary Powers and immigrated to Albany, NY in the 1850s. There were several other Denn men who were contemporaries of William (John, James and Nicholas) living in the Albany NY area - all from Kilkenny.

Wonder if there might be a distant connection?

Frank

I have an Ella G. or Elvira Hare born circa September 1862 in PA who married a Harry Alexander Denn according to One World Tree, but there is no name of the submitter of the information. Elvira/Ella's grandparents were of the Fayette Co. area in PA and then moved to Beaver Co. Ella/Elvira's father was born in Pittsburgh supposedly so the Denns could have been anywhere in SW PA. I have some of her ancestors and would love to know descendants.

I have a court proceeding paper from the late 1800s that lists a Maurice DENN of Peoria, Illinois as being related to:

Thomas James SYNNOTT was born to James SYNNOTT and Ann POWER around 1818 in Ballinacrea Parish, Slieverone [sic], County Kilkenny Ireland.

Thomas James SYNNOTT emigrated to the U.S. aboard the Star of the West and landed around September 21, 1849. He was a Roman Catholic priest and his first parish was St. Patrick's in Providence RI and his last parish was St. Augustine's in Bridgeport CT, where he died on April 30, 1884.

He was one of several children of James SYNNOTT & Ann POWER. The siblings that I know of are:

Ellen SYNNOTT WALSH (my g-g-g-grandmother) -- predeceased her brother. Her children: Martin WALSH (my g-g-grandfather), Patrick WALSH, Mary WALSH

John SYNNOTT, who ended up in Wellington, Ontario, Canada.

James SYNNOTT -- predeceased his brother. Children: Robert SYNNOTT & Thomas F. SYNNOTT.

Michael SYNNOTT

This family spread far and wide after making the trip west -- they went to:

Bridgeport Connecticut
Wellington, Ontario, Canada
Albany, New York
Detroit, Michigan
Janesville, Wisconsin
Virginia, Illinois
Peoria, Illinois
Lexington (McLean County), Illinois

I'm sorry I don't have any other information on the DENN that's in my family, but perhaps someone will have a Maurice DENN from Peoria IL in their family that will connect.

It lists Mathias as being from France.
You probably have this information already, but if I come upon antthing else in my research I will let you know

Now it makes sense! Phebe H. Denn married Henry Robinson in Barrien County, MI on May 23, 1851. Their son, William Joseph Robinson m. Elizabeth "Minnie" Frary on 25 Aug, 1880. Their son, Kirklin Franklin Robinson was my maternal Grandmother.

I now have the following: Ralph Denn's father was one Christopher Denn. I do not know anything else about this Christopher. However, a Christopher Denn was the founder of the town of Goshen in Orange county, New York. However, the later Christopher was about 100 years before our Denn line.

However, we are distant relatives from your data. Glad to meet you cousin!

Your Ralph DENN is the younger brother of my Phebe. Phebe was born in New York about 1835-1836. Her father was also born in New York about 1803-1804. This data from 1850 census in MI and marriage records in MI, 1854. The same census records a Samuel as a brother of Ralph and Phebe.

My grandfather came from Deidesheim Germany to Mazomanie Wi. as a young child in 1866. Tracing my family history we found that mygreat great grandfather came from Uberach France. This is located in the Alscace area of France. This area went back and forth between France and Germany for years. This could be the reason for the French connection.

When Ancestory.com published the Indiana Birth Record index 1880-1920 I found out all my Denu relatives are listed as Denn's. So be careful when you are checking in the spellings. We came from Baden, Germany, but I have relatives still living in Indiana.

I have been trying to do research on my maiden name and have found out many interesting things. My dad's family are from Siberia, IN and spell their name, Denu. When my dad and his brother moved to Cincinnati, OH and married they changed the spelling to DeNu. I guess it's the French??? I too have a brother James DeNu. My dad was Alva C. Denu but most of the information is listed as Denn in the Indiana census. I am interested in anything you can provide on this surname. My dad's mother was a Gehlhausen.

My dad's Denu relatives can be traced back to John Baptista Denu from Baden Germany, born April 26 1837. There has to be a connection somewhere, they all settled in Indiana, and I visited them this past weekend, which was kind of neat in that I am trying to piece the pieces together.

Seeking information on Elias DENN who was born between 1790 and 1800. He married Dorothy SMITH 22 July 1827 in Huron co, Ohio. Dorothy was from a family that migrated from New London co, Connecticut. Her father was Stephen SMITH and mother was Jemima COOLEDGE.

Children of this marriage were Eliza DENN born c1827 in Ohio. Elias DENN remarried Anne Eliza CHITTENDON Dec 1835 in Huron co, Ohio. Elias died after 1840 in Ohio.

Eliza DENN is my gggrandmother. Her DENN line is a total mystery. Any leads on Elias or Eliza DENN greatly appreciated.

TIA, Gene Oleson

References:
Census of 1840 Huron Twp, Erie co, Ohio lists Elias S.

My great-great grandmother Mary Denn Rumsey lived in Van Etten, NY about 1850. She was the daughter of James F. Denn and Eliza and married to James A. Rumsey. At the time of her mother's death, Mary had two sisters. One sister was married to Charles Crumblevine, and a second was married to Josiah F. Keyes. A third sister, Nancy was married to John Owens and died Dec. 25, 1868. I have all the this information from old obituaries. They seem to be in the Waverly, NY or Scranton, PA area but I haven't been able to pinpoint them in the census records. I hope that this information is helpful to someone.
