Hi,

Its been suggested that our Reuben Dennison may have emigrated to Canada some time before 1935 (there's a Reuben Dennison listed on the ship list) but can't confirm his movements past there, and indeed if he is the same Reuben Dennison (although the chances of it not being him are slim). Reubens parents were Edward Dennison b.1877 and Alice Copeland b.1881. Any information would be greatly received...

Hi,

I've noticed that a few people have this person in their tree (having moved to the States) but cannot track details of potential siblings or parents of Patrick. I am trying to find out if Patrick could be the brother of David Dennison also born in Mayo (we think!) in 1820. If this is indeed the case then it opens up a whole new line of relatives in the UK to the US Dennisons

looking for Dennison information (ME/MA)

Here is what I know:

It's believed that my grandmother's father may be Willard C. Dennison of Freeport, ME. I found his thomaston prison records and he lists that his father's name is Herbert A. So I researched and found a Hubert A Dennison b.abt 1859. Timeframe seems right. Hurbert was born in Maine as was his mother and father as listed on a 1930 census record in Massachusetts. He was 69 and his wife Annie was 66 then. He was listed as a designer in the magazine industry. It also shows that Annie immigrated to the US from Canada in 1880. She was born there as were her mother and father but I don't know who they are yet.
As for Hurbert A. Dennison I found that his father was Artson K. Dennison. I have seen it as Actson and A. K. Dennison on census records. I don't know which is correct but has to be one or the other. He was b. abt 1834 in Maine. His wife's name was Ellen R and her mother's name was Jane. I found an 1880 census record that shows Artson K Dennison and wife Ellen R Dennison with children: Hubert A. 21, Lottie C. 19, Walter G. 11, Sarah A. 9, Jane Bates 64, and Laura E. Moore 33. It lists Jane as Ellen's mother and Laura E as Jane's daughter as well. I do not know if Bates or Moore is Ellen R's maiden name. It could be neither. Perhaps at 33 Laura E had been married but was a widow or something. This is where my trail ends. Artson states his birthplace is Maine so mother and father may have been born there or at least there's a birth certificate somewhere. He was an Overseer in the Mill (either shoe or textile) in Androscoggin county living in Lewiston. Later he moved to New Bedford, Bristol, MA for another factory job this time as an overseer in the cotton mill.
I'm looking for information about the women they all married as well as who Artson's mother and father were. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Deb

Hi,

I am after some help/direction tracing James Dennison in Ireland b.1849.

We have no information on Parish or parents. We believe he was in the UK (are there any records anywhere of immigrations to UK from Ireland?)in 1881 and was married to a Mary although we aren't sure if she was from Ireland or the UK. It seems that James may be my Husbands ggGrandfather. My Father-in-Law is also very keen to continue following the line back into Ireland so any help or resource would be greatly appreciated!

Other things we know have all been taken from the 1881/91 census records and what little detail we know from my Husbands Grandfather.

Kind Regards,
Victoria

I just stumbled on this message board. I'm so excited.

My grandfather was Raymond Lewis Dennison who was from Harrison County, WV. He is listed on ANCESTRY.COM.

I happen to have a family tree that traces back to ~1800 that my great uncle Ashby P. Dennison did.

The story is that in the mid-late 1700's my great-great..grandfather Patrick Dennison eloped with the daughter of the mayor of Dublin (Lord Courtney).
They were married on the ship that brought them to America.

In looking at my info it appears that the family settled in the Harrison County area of WV and some have been there ever since.

At the moment my work load prevents me from putting any of this on line.

However, my daughter Jessica and I are looking forward to sharing information.

Lenora Dennison, Clermont County, Ohio

Am seeking any information on a Dennison family from Clermont County, Ohio. Timeframe is 1850 to present. My ggm is Lenora Dennison born 1858(?), ggf is James Dennison born 1846(?). Their children were Katie Dennison Mitchell, Gus, John, Frank, Charles, Harry, James and Rolland. Rolland is alleged to have gone AWOL from the military and fled to Lyons, Nebraska area where he changed his name to Ben Richmond to avoid being found. Am doing research on Ben's ancestry. Any leads, however small, would be helpful.

My aunt has identified some photographs as Dennisons who moved from possibly Illinois or Ohio to Kansas. The photographs were taken in Smith Centre and Farmer City about 1900. The mother in one picture is probably closely related to Conards, though Stiles or McKinneys might be involved. Another picture probably shows her Dennison in-laws.

Does anyone know this family?

Dennison Family Origins

I have good evidence that my family ancestors came to the US in 1851 through New Orleans. Further research shown that my GGGFather Robert Dennison was born in Dromore Parish in 1807 to the elder Robert Dennison and his wife, only identified as "Faris". My thinking is that Faris is a surname, but I've not been able to find any information as to her origin. The younger Robert married a Sarah, surname unknown, and the had a number of children, among them, my GGFather William, who appears to have been born in Scotland in about 1849. William's elder brother, Archibald, who appears to have had a twin sister Margaret, served in the American Civil War, and some of his military records show his origin as being in Manorhamilton, Leitrim, Ireland.

Any additional information on the above would be appreciated immensely..

I am researching the John Dennison family that came from somewhere in Virginia. His wife's name was Emeline and they had at least two daughters and one son, namely Alice Amelia and Flora (Florence?). Alice married Isaac A. Hancock on 21 March, 1874 in Lee County Iowa. Flora married a CARR and remained in Lee County. The son's name was Thomas and some of his family later moved close to Kingman Kansas where Isaac and Alice also moved to, died and are buried in the Walnut Hill Cemetery there.

Opal Marie Wetterer / Burns / Dennison

I was hoping someone could help me find some information about Opal Burns. I believe Burns to be her maiden name and when she died in April 2001, she was Opal Wetterer.

This is the information I have gathered over the years and I need to see if anyone knew this person:

Opal Marie Burns b. January 26 1922 Butler Co. Kentucky, d April 8, 2001 (Mich)
Buried at Wheatley Cemetery in Hardin County, Kentucky, retired from Bussmann in Elizabethtown
Husbands:
Charles M. Dennison sr.
Paul F. Wetterer

Siblings: Willis & Willard Forbes (might be half brothers) and a sister Norvella

Children: Charles Jr., Ray, Bobbie Joe, Sandra & Betty Jean

Mother: Martha (Elmore) Burns (?)

I'm not sure how accurate any of this information is - but if anyone knows this family I would greatly appreciate any information. The reason for this is because I believe this to be my father's (Bobbie Joe) family. I never knew my father and after searching through some paper work at my mother's house, she told me what she could about him. Unfortunately I found out that my father is dead, and may have died in 1981. I also do know that Charles Jr may be living in Florida.

If anyone can confirm or deny this information or may have further information on any living relatives, please email me at leah34f@hotmail.com
Scotch-Irish Dennisons

My gggrandfather Robert Dennison appears to have been born in Dromore parish, County Down, Ireland in 1807, and emigrated to the US in 1851, through New Orleans. The family settled in Illinois, but later some of them became established in Seneca County, New York. He and his wife, Sarah (surname unknown) had 4 children, Archibald, and Margaret (appear to be twins), Sarah and William (my ggrandfather). William was apparently born in Scotland in 1847, but I can't find firm evidence of that, except for US censuses that indicate that fact. William married Belinda McCoy in Geneva, New York during the 1870's and moved back to Illinois where my Grandfather, Francis Dennison was born.

Belinda (McCoy) Dennison died in Prescott, Arizona in 1938.

Francis married May Belle Allen from Waterloo, New York, and they had a number of children including my father, Francis Richard Jr. They settled in East Longmeadow and Spencer, Massachusetts. He died in Texas in 1952.

Can anyone add anything to the earlier period. Most of what I've been able to come up with is severely fragmented...

John Lathrop (a Congregationalist/Unitarian minister) in Boston in the late 1700s:

Matthew Denison de Orville & Martha Webb, Nov. 6, 1794 (in the intentions, he is identified as Mather Denison D'Orvilla)

and

Martha Dennisin de Orville & Richard Derby, Dec. 13, 1798

I presume Matthew and Martha are siblings, and possibly of French origin. Does anyone know of any FRENCH Denisons (and a possible explanation for that "double" name - could it be a "dit" name)?

Hiram Dennison in Clinton County, Pennsylvania

I am looking for information on Hiram DENNISON, born about 1805-1810. He was married to a woman named Elizabeth, and their children include Jane, Andrew, William, Mary (Ellen) and John. He is listed as living in Clinton County, Pennsylvania for the 1860 and 1870 Federal Census, but his birthplace is reported differently in each one. (One says New York, the other Connecticut.) I would love to connect with anyone else who is researching this line.
Thanks,
Jenn

Joseph DENNISON OWNES

Hi list, Im looking for information about Joseph DENNIS[O-E]N OWNES. I have him in our Family Bible and it reads as follows: Joseph DENNISON OWNES born in Indiana on 28 Mar 1847 and died on 28 Mar 1917. There is a name above his that reads: Sarah Elizabeth RAMSEY born 5 Aug 1843, it is not stated where she was born or when she died, but the other names in the Bible are, CLIBURN, McLEOD, COLLINS and MACKE[Y] and RAMSEY.. I beleive that Joseph's middle name is also a family name, DENNIS[O-E]N, I have put the O and E in brackets because of different spellings. I hope there is some one out there that can shed some light on these names.. The area that these names cover are: Indiana, Illinios and Missouri, the Counties of MO. are, St Louis, Crawford Co., and surrounding areas.. Thank you for any help that any one of you can give me.
Sandee

Dennison family in Bloomfield, Missouri

I am interested in learning more about my grandfather's parents Cody Dennison and May Holcomb. My grandfather Woodrow Dennison was born November 6, 1918 in Bloomfield, Missouri Stoddard County and died December 29, 1993 in Denham Springs, Louisiana Livingston Parish. My grandfather Woodrow had no brothers or sisters and learned from his mom that his dad Cody died shortly before he was born. He was raised up in northeastern part of Arkansas during his childhood years. His mother May later on married from Missouri Charles Holleck and from Missouri Oscar Mcgehee. My grandfather's mother May died abt 1931 and is buried in New Salem, Arkansas. All I've found so far is a 1930 census record from Clay county Piggot, Arkansas that listed a Dennison family living next door to the Mcgehee family on the same street. I also found a 1900 census record for Stoddard County, Mo with Oscar Mcgehee as head of household and listed his birthplace as Illinois and his spouse Mary F. Any information would be very helpful. I've also attached a picture of my grandfather to this query. Pic was taken in the 1940's.

I am looking for any information about my grandfather Glenn Jennings Dennison. All that I know is that he was born December 10, 1897 in West Virginia and died in April 1969. He was married 2 times. I know nothing of his first marriage other than he had a son named George who lives in Ohio. There are other siblings, but I don't know anything about them. Glenn's 2nd marriage was to Ethelda Viola Hall. They had 1 daughter of that union named Deborah Mae Dennison born February 16, 1950. Glenn and Ethelda divorced and Glenn moved to Florida where he later died in 1969. If anyone can give me information on him I would be most appreciative.
Michelle

A Young Life Gone Out ~ Vesta (Treasure) Dennison
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, April 29, 1909

MRS. VESTA DENNISON died in the hospital at Omaha, on Monday, April 19 at 2
o'clock p.m., after an illness of nine weeks. Her death was caused by blood
poison. Had she lived until July 15th, she would have been 21 years of age,
and been married only a little over a year.

Her remains were taken to Kirksville, Mo., the home of her mother, MRS. MARY
TREASURE, for interment, reaching there on Tuesday of last week. She was
the daughter of MR. and MRS. THOMAS TREASURE, formerly of Whitebreast
Township. Thus, a young life has gone out, which a short time since was
filled with promise and the natural gladness of hearts has turned to
mourning.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert
June 29, 2005
iggy29@rnetinc.net
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm
posted at this site with Nancee's permission
