George Wardle Dent born 1808 Edinburgh worked for the Great Western Railway in England from about 1840 to 1861 in various locations. He married Mary Holman of Potterspury, Northamptonshire in 1833 while living in Cosgrove and probably working on the Grand Union Canal. The children began to arrive. George in 1835, Henry Thomas in 1837 both in Cosgrove. George Wardle 1842 and Elizabeth 1844 both in London. Mary Ann 1848 and Alfred 1851 in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Mary (Holman) Dent died in London in 1861. George Wardle Dent and his two teenage daughters, Elizabeth and Mary Ann emigrated to Canada. They settled in central Ottawa, Ontario. Elizabeth married my great grandfather Samuel Haryett in 1865. Samuel was working as a butcher in Wellington Market, Ottawa. Mary Ann married a butcher Alfred Bufton who had a stall in the market place in central Ottawa. George Wardle died in Ottawa in 1868.
I have a copy of a letter from Alfred Dent written in 1877 while he was working in Sacramento. He was a butcher as well.
Samuel Haryett was murdered in Ottawa in 1887. William Dent who emigrated to Australia apparently sent money to help. I have only recently become aware of Henry Thomas Dent and George Wardle Dent jr. I have no idea what became of them.
Was your Henry married in Ontario? It might be interesting to get your Henry's marriage information and see who witnessed it.
