Samuel Denton (1870 - ?) in Clarendon, Arkansas 1910, wife Lillie

Samuel H. DENTON and wife Lille (surname unknown), residence in 1910 was Clarendon, ARK. per the 1910 census, his step-mother's (Mary M. SPRAY) obituary from 1910, and father's obit. from 1916.

Samuel was born about 1870-1871 in Indiana to parents John M. DENTON (son of Eliza Emeline Bolt Denton and David Denton) and Martha "Nettie" STRATTON. Samuel's mother died in 1879 when he was only 8 years old, and he went to live with an Aunt Mahala Heady-HOLLINGSWORTH and Uncle James Oliver HOLLINGSWORTH from Kokomo, Indiana while his father worked on a mill (as found in the 1880 census).

*Note - I have no idea how Mahala Heady Hollingsworth and Samuel are related, but Samuel is listed in their household census as a "nephew" in 1880.

Samuel had two sisters, Florence "Flora" Jane DENTON-HOLCOMB and Prudence DENTON. He also had two half-brothers, Claude and Earl "Coxey" DENTON.

Can anyone connect to this family of Samuel and Lillie in any way? I'd love to hear from you...

joni4ta[at]yahoo.com

Looking for a JOHN DENTON b. aBT. 1860. maybe Texas. We were told he was born in Texas, but no proof.
I know he was in Midland, SD in late 1800 and early 1900's. He homesteaded in South Dakota, married my grandmother, OAKA STIPES, in Phillips, SD July 3, 1897, had 8 children. Worked for his father-in-law JAMES STIPES on thier ranch.
I understand JOHN DENTON and OAKA seperated. He went to Canada, and the story goes, she went to Washington where her parents had moved. OAKA remarried a few years later, can't find a divorce record, but she said he died in 1914. My father says different. the family has been very closed mouth about all this. Would like to find my grandfather's real story!
I have a picture of him.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you
Karen

Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Manuel R. Denton, U.S. Navy, of Kerrville, Texas - Vietnam MIA Indentified

On the Web:
http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=1...

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 652-08
August 04, 2008
Sailor Missing from The Vietnam War is Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that a U.S. serviceman, missing from the Vietnam War, has been identified.

He is Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Manuel R. Denton, U.S. Navy, of Kerrville, Texas. He will be buried as part of a group on Thursday in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C.

On Oct. 8, 1963, Denton was one of six men who crewed a UH-34D Choctaw helicopter that was on a search-and-rescue mission. While over Quang Nam Province, Vietnam, the helicopter came under intense enemy ground fire and crashed. There were no survivors. Over the next several days, the remains of four of the crewmen were recovered, however the remains of Denton and one other crewman, U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Luther E. Ritchey Jr., were not recovered.

Between 1991 and 2000, several joint U.S./Socialist Republic of Vietnam (S.R.V.) teams, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), traveled to Quang Nam Province to investigate the incident and interview witnesses. Teams also surveyed the crash site and found wreckage consistent with a UH-34D.

In 2000 and 2001, human remains associated with this incident were turned over to U.S. officials. In 2002, a joint team excavated the crash site and recovered human remains.

As a result of the remains turned over in 2000 and 2001, and of those recovered from the crash site in 2002, Ritchey’s remains were identified in 2003. Some of these remains could not be individually identified, and they are included in a group representing the entire crew. Denton’s remains are in this group, which will be buried together in Arlington.

JPAC used forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence in Denton’s identification.

For additional information on the Defense Department’s mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1420.
I am searching for parents of my great-great grandfather, John G. Denton. He was born in Virginia, but may have spent time in Tennessee before coming to Kentucky as a Methodist Circuit Rider. He married Sarah Partridge in 1827, and they located in Meade County, Kentucky in 1831. John G. and Sarah had six children:
William Fletcher (married Helen C. ?)
Elizabeth Catherine (married Thomas Bell Kirkpatrick)
George Matthew (married Emmeline White Kirkpatrick)
John Wesley
Henry Addison
Rebecca Jane (married James Patrick Pedley)

I cannot find anyone who seems to be my John Denton in the various Denton websites. Does anyone have any ideas?

Some names I have are:
James Millard Denton (or Millard James Denton)
Delbert Denton
Leroy Denton
William Oscar Denton

William Oscar Denton is my great grandfather and he moved to Oklahoma sometime in the early 1900's. He married Zelma Marie Stevens and they had two children, Donald Wayne Denton (my father) and Ricky Denton.
ANY information you have would be so appreciate.

Lindsay Denton
lindsayterrae@yahoo.com

Searching for some Arkansas DENTONs

Samuel H. DENTON and wife Lille (surname unknown), residence in 1910 was Clarendon, ARK. per the 1910 census, his step-mother's (Mary M. SPRAY) obituary from 1910, and father's obit. from 1916.

Samuel was born about 1870 in Indiana to parents John M. DENTON and Martha "Nettie" STRATTON. Samuel's mother died in 1879 when he was only 8 years old, and he went to live with his Aunt Mahala STRATTON-HOLLINGSWORTH and Uncle Oliver HOLLINGSWORTH while his father worked on a mill (as found in the 1880 census).

Joni Fortier

Lincolnshire Dentons

As far as I know, I have no connection to Reverend Richard Denton. My Dentons are as follows:
Jonathan Denton - m. Sarah Hurd, 1798, Fiskerton, Lincolnshire. Parents of:
Jonathan Denton, b. abt 1800, m. Frances Swabey 1830, died 1866 in Bardney Lincolnshire.. Parents of:
William Denton b. 1833 in Lincolnshire, England, married Mary (nee Hammer) Hickson. Parents of:
James William Denton b. 1862, Bardney, d. 1953, Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio. Mary & her son came to the US in 1867 with her daughter Elizabeth Hickson and settled in Morrow County, Ohio.
James William Denton was my great grandfather.
I have information about Jonathan & Frances's children who came to the US and settled mainly in Ohio & Kansas. There seems to be some question about where & when William Denton (b 1833) died and whether he and Mary had any other children. It doesn't help that there are so many William Dentons who married Marys.
Isaac Benjamin Denton (1842-1905) (NY-PA–IA–KS–NE-OR–NE)

I am a descendant of Isaac Benjamin Denton b. 1842 in NY, d. 1905. He was married in 1868 to Mary Louisa Lerch b. 24 Sep 1852 in Dauphin, Pennsylvania, d. 5 Apr 1921 Phillipsburg, KS. Both are buried in Oxford, NE. They had 1 daughter, Alice M. (1871-) and 5 boys: Harry Ransom (1873-1954) [my ancestry line], George E. (1874-1946), Frank (1876-), Clarence (1877-) and Fred (1878-1951). Isaac Benjamin Denton served in the Civil War (1861-1864) in the 5th PA Volunteer Reserves, Company F. He listed his residence then as Bradford County, Sheshequin, PA. We do not know who his parents were. He does not show up in the 1860 census, but I believe he is listed in the 1850 census as living with the Daniel Brink Jr. family in Sheshequin, PA as age 9. Living next door with Daniel Brink Sr. family is a Hannah Denton age 12. And living next door to them with the Horton family is David Denton age 16. The 1850 Bradford County, PA census also shows a Lydia Denton (~1841) age 9 living with a minister’s family. I can track Isaac from 1861 (PA–IA–KS–NE-OR–NE) till his death, but know nothing of his earlier life except that he was born in NY.

Sometime between 1850 and 1860 both the Brink’s family and some of the Horton’s moved out west to Reynolds, Lee, IL. I do not know if the Denton children moved with them or stayed in Sheshequin, PA. The 1860 census shows a Hannah Denton living with another family as a servant in Bradford County, PA so she may have stayed.

If anyone knows anything about these 4 children, Isaac Denton (~1842), Hannah Denton (~1838), David Denton (~1834) and Lydia Denton (~1841), I would greatly appreciate your info. I have searched all the census records and the Bradford County, PA website with no luck. If anyone comes across these names in one family of Denton’s born in NY in the 1830’s – 1860” I would appreciate any clues.
Isaac Benjamin Denton confusion

There has been a mistake that seems to be growing larger each year that I would like to correct. The Isaac Benjamin Denton whose parents are Elijah Conner Denton and Mary Ann Simms was born June 6, 1869 in Linden, Perry, TN, not in 1842. This Isaac Denton was not married to Mary Louisa Lerch and is not related to the children listed with her. Please make this correction if you have them listed on your tree. The correct information can be found at
http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/person.aspx?pid=42237425 or at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rayherndon/p500.htm....

-Deanna Denton

Casey Denton, born abt 1821 in Tennessee, married Sarah McLaren, born abt. 1822 in Kentucky. Marriage about 1840 in Missouri.
Children:
M J (female)
Susan
William (my line)
Elvada
John

My line moved to Idaho. I think that Casey and Sarah died before 1860, for they are not on the 1860 Census and their children are living with other families.

William married Ida McIntosh
They had
Charlotte (Lottie)
Frank
Clara Belle
Ellen Mae
Fred (my line)
Nora
Raymond

I like filling all of the lines, you never know what you will learn.

Thanks for your time,
Blessings,
Deborah

Amanda Burchfield 19 Sept 1857 Kaufman Co TX

on the 1860 Jack Co TX census the above John Denton has two Hogan girls in his household: Nancy age 8 and Henrietta age 4. These girls each had a personal estate of $1000. I believe the girls were dghts of Susannah Denton and Robert R.
Dan(iel) H. Green, m. Martha Eldora Denton, Howell County, MO 1900

I am trying to find information on a Daniel H. Green who married Martha Eldora Denton of Howell County, MO on 11 Jun 1900. In the marriage license application, his age is given as 45 years, and she is 21. In the 1900 Howell County census, Daniel Greene is listed with a birthdate of April 1830, making him 70 years old in 1900. His wife is listed as "Dora," (which she may have gone by instead of Martha; other census records list her also as Dora) and her birthdate is listed as April 1879, making her 21. Daniel says that he was born in Missouri, and his father and mother were born in Kentucky and Tennessee respectively. Martha Eldora was born in Missouri, and her parents were born in Missouri and Illinois.

In the 1910 census, Daniel H. Greene is listed as 82 years old. Martha E., his wife, is listed as 30 years old (the census was done just before her birthday). They have two children, Daniel W., age 9, and Maud L., age 1.

The only Daniel H. Green I have been able to locate that would fit the census records with Martha is a Daniel Henderson Green, born in April of 1827 in Kentucky, and who died "near old White Oak," in Harrison County, Missouri, at the home of his son, Joseph (son of a previous marriage). The obituary does not list a wife or any other family members.

I would like to find out more information about Daniel. Was this Daniel the same one that married Martha? Was he married at the time of his death? Daniel Henderson Green died at the age of 89, and is buried in Harrison County.

Thank you for any information!

Lisa
Looking for Essie Hannah Denton, b. 1891 Howell County, MO

Hello! I am looking for information regarding Essie Hannah Denton, daughter of John S. Denton of Howell County, Missouri. She was born around 1891. She married John Harvey Willbanks of Hollis, Greer County, Okalahoma, on 29 Jan 1906 in Howell County, MO. She seems to have died before 1920, as John Harvey Willbanks married Essie's aunt, Martha Eldora Denton Green, in either 1918 or 1919 (I can't remember which year right now; don't have my files with me.) John and Martha were listed on the 1920 MO census as husband and wife.

Essie had at least two children with John. One was a girl named Jewel. I don't remember right offhand when she was born. Essie also had a son named Bennie Edward Willbanks, who was born 7 Feb 1911 in Peace Valley in Howell County, and died 9 Feb 1911 in Sisson in Howell County of suffocation, according to his death record.

I would like more information about Essie. I don't know when or where she died. If anyone can help me with her, I would soooo appreciate it.

Thank you!

Lisa

Ozias Denton, son of Shipman Denton

I am having a real hard time finding out what happened to my gggg-grandfather. He last shows on the 1850 census for Drew County Arkansas and my ggg-grandfather James Denton was born in 1862 and then his mother Angeline (Baker) Denton remarried abt. 1868 a William Brim.

Civil War records for three Arkansas infantry regiments show Ozias Dentons enrolled; so there is a chance he died in the war but no one knows for sure.

Does anyone have info on this elusive man?

Shipman died in Drew County Arkansas abt. 1870 and there is a chance Ozias may have been buried their also since the war records show he was discharged but may have been suffering from wounds that claimed his life. If anyone in Drew County has access to cemeteries in the area of Monticello Township maybe they know of such grave sites.

Help please.

Roy Denton

John E. Denton was the son of Williamson Denton and Mary Collier. I do have info on any possible siblings of John's.
He married Lucinda V. Whitworth in 1865 in Maury Co, TN.
They had several children in TN and then removed to Hill and Limestone Cos., TX where they had a few more.
Some of their children include: Albert b. 1867, Laura b. 1869, John b. 1871 in TN, Williamson C. b. 1873 in TX, Mary M. b. 1876, Delly b. 1878, Cora b. 1879 and James Franklin b, 1884.
I have census records for 1870 and 1880 of the family. I am trying to confirm or deny whether this Albert Denton b. 1867 is my ggrandfather b. 2 Feb, 1867 in TN.
My ggrandfather was Albert Logan Denton born on 2 Feb, 1867 in TN. So far, I can find him on no census records in TN. He married Clara Mayfield in Clay Co, TN in 1888 (per marriage record.
They moved west and she died in Ardmore, OK in 1896 after having 5 children with Albert: Ina Lee, Mary Lou, Thomas Clyde, William Edward and Benjamin Franklin "Frank."
Albert L. Denton returned to Clay Co, TN where he appears on the 1900 census. His children were divided among relatives until he married Mary Harp in 1901 in Clay Co, TN (per marriage record).
They all moved to Grayson Co, TX (per 1910 census and birth records) where they had 6 children: Edgar, Olean, Dewey Bryan, Leslie, R.C. and Buford.
By the 1920 census they were in Van Zandt County, Texas which is where Albert and Mary are buried.
Albert Logan Denton died in 1953 in Dallas.
Any info or ideas greatly appreciated!

DENTON - HOLLINGSWORTH, HEADY, STRATTON marriage? ca. 1850-1864

Is anyone out there aware of a DENTON-HOLLINGSWORTH union or a DENTON-HEADY union that occured between 1850 and 1864?

I have a James Oliver And Mahala (HEADY, daughter of Lewis HEADY and Charity ___?) HOLLINGSWORTH family, with a Samuel DENTON (9yrs old) in their home, in the 1880 Census - Honey Creek Twp., Howard County, Indiana. Samuel is listed as a "nephew."

I already know Samuel's father is John M. DENTON (1847-1916), and mother is Martha "Nettie" STRATTON (1850-1879).

In order for Samuel to be James Oliver or Mahala's "NEPHEW", one of James O.'s or Mahala's siblings had to have married into the DENTON, HOLLINGSWORTH, HEADY or STRATTON family??? I think???? Unless I am completely lost on my thought process.

Anyone have any helpful hints, tips, etc. they could send my way? My Ever gracious pre thank you,

Joni Fortier

Abraham Denton / Martha Thorne

I am looking for documents proving that Abraham Denton of Orange Co. NY married Martha Thorne, that her last name was Thorne and who her parents were. I have just about written off William Thorne and Winifred Livingston. The only couple I find by that name lived in Somerset Co., Maryland. William died around1665-1670 as his widow married David Brown around 1670. they seemed to have lived their whole lives in Maryland. If Martha was born 1679, Woodstock, Va. she could not have been their child. One person has suggested her name was Parish. I have not found a Martha Thorne in any records I have looked at from that area of Va. (oh, yes, the Will of William Thorne did not mention any children.) As to William Thorne of Long Island, the only wife I found record for was Susanna (Booth?).

William DENTON of Michigan 1846-1853, b. abt 1822 in England, d. (need help!)

William Robert Denton was born in England and emigrated to the USA prior to 1846, at which time he was studying medicine under the direction of a Dr. J.B. Chamberlain. William was married to Philura Burt on 01 Dec 1847 in St. Clair County, Michigan (they were listed as being 25 and 23 years old, respectively). The 1850 US Census indicates that they were residing in Algonac, St. Clair County, MI and that he was a 28 year old Doctor who was born in England and that she was a 24 year old native of New York state.

William Denton practiced medicine in Algonac and his medical records have been passed down to his heirs. Those records of services rendered come to an abrupt end on 01 Sept. 1853 and the only entries after that date are for payments that Philura received that were still owed to her husband.

William is not buried in the local cemetery alongside his wife and descendants and also unlike them, there is no record of his death in the St. Clair County records. William supposedly had a brother (possibly named Robert William) who also emigrated from England to Buffalo, NY, but no other details are known about him.

All of our searches for more information about William Denton have come up empty and we suspect that it may be due to oral family history which suggests that William may have abandoned his family and left Michigan for unknown parts.

Does anyone have information about William Robert Denton that might indicate his date and place of death?

So - how come we don't have a hopping DENTON Family DNA Project going?

With all of the DENTON descendants avidly doing research, proving and disproving their ancestry - I noticed there is a DENTON DNA Project here - http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/d/denton/

and only one person has submitted DNA! I would have thought with at least 100 would have been in on this by now. Is there another one I just don't know about?
