I have recently discovered some of my relatives and would like to see if anyone can help me find them farther back. Here is what I have learned so far--according to Census records and city directories.

William A. Depue
b.about 1867 Indiana
d.????
Father born in New York
Mother born in Indiana
I have not found their names yet
His last name is spelled Depue and Depew depending on which Census you find him in.

He married Tessa L Collins about 1888.
b.about 1873
d.????
They later divorced somewhere in between 1910 and 1920
By 1923 she had remarried a Roy Erskine

William and Tessa had the following children
Blanch (Blanche)
b1891 Michigan

Hubert
b.1898 Michigan
d.1971 Bothell WA

Celia
b1905 Idaho
d

Edith
b1910 Washington
d.1977 Bellevue WA

I am searching for Blanch and Celia as I don't know anything on Blanch after 1910 and anything on Celia after 1920. Also any info on William would be appreciated. He also sometimes went by Abraham. He was in Oregon in 1920 and remarried a Melvina(?) Maxmillon in 1923 in Oregon. Don't know anything after that

Thanks
Heather (Depew) Drog
Depuy/Depew Family Research Project

A group of us have contributed funds to an on-going research project in France to locate any records for our Depuy ancestors in the area of Arras. The documents from the Leiden Walloon Church states that our Nicholas de Puwy was a "camletworker [tapestry weaver] young man from near Atrecht [Dutch for Arras, France]", so that seems to indicate that the family must have lived in a surrounding village.

During the past year, I have been working with a professional genealogist there that has just completed his archival research of the 12 Catholic Churches of Arras that existed during the 17th century and earlier. The Huguenots were not officially allowed to have their own churches back then, so they usually recorded births, baptisms, and deaths in the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in discovering any records of our Depuy family.

We are pursuing the next phase of this research and will have to hire another person to search through the departmental archives of Pas-de-Calais (used to be Artois) for any mention of our Depuy family in the surrounding towns and villages of Arras from that time. I am asking for contributions from anyone who might be interested in discovering more information about Nicholas and Francois Depuy/Depew/Depue and their parents, Jean de Puij and Marij Moptij. You can contact me at maineshep@verizon.net

Thanks,

Wayne Shepard
Depuy Research Project

We are resuming our research project to uncover additional records about our Depuy/Depew/Depue family in Arras, France during the 17th and possibly 16th centuries. Two individuals in The Netherlands discovered documents at Leiden that provided the names of the parents of Nicholas and Francois Depuy - Jean and Mary (Moptij - also: Mopty, Mopety, Monpetit) de Puij. These records indicate that both Jean and his children were from the town of Atrecht (Dutch for Arras) in the region of Artois (now Pas-de-Calais).

I have found a professional genealogist who will be able to continue with this project at Arras, but his fees are such that we will need additional funding. If you are interested in helping and would like to contribute, please email or write to me. A group of us have supported this project since 2004, and we have uncovered the names of the parents of Nicholas and Francois and their siblings in The Netherlands.

We appreciate any assistance.

Wayne Shepard
7711 Willow Ridge Drive
Justin, TX 76247
maineshep@verizon.net

I'm looking for more info on Joseph Depue, wife Esther, dau. Dora E and Julia H.
1880 ages 34, 31, 7, 5 living in Cameron Hall NE
1890 can't find them
1900 ages 54, 57 living in Como Park CO
1910 ages 63, 61 living in Turquillo Mora New Mexico

Joseph was born in IL, Father in Penn, Mother in NY or PN
Esther born in Canada, parents born in Canada. Joseph is listed as a Quartz miner in 1900. I have a death certificate of a Jack Depue in Juab UT indicating a retired miner, but the person who completed it said he was single with unknown parents, and a birth place of Payson since 1847. I suspect he's the same person as Joseph but no proof. I'm looking for a tie in with a possible brother - William Depew b. 1845 of IA. His father Joseph Depew(according to an 1850 census) was also born in PENN and mother (Wealthy Elmer) in CT.

Looking for clarification on this family even if it's not connected to the Joseph of PENN. Would like to know if the Jack belongs to a different family also.

Please put DEPEW / ELMER in subject line of email. Thanks.

Etta May Kelley Bible Found

Looking for cousins or other family of Etta May Kelley. Etta was born November 6, 1919 and died on April 13, 1939. She was a resident of the County Children's Home in Defiance County, Ohio. Her Bible was found when the home was closed. I would like to return her Bible to a family member. Etta May's mother was named May (Depew) Kelley. Etta's father was Ephraim Kelley. Etta was their only daughter, never married, and never had children. Etta's grandparents were Benjamin Franklin Depew and Etta Boners(?) Etta's maternal aunts and uncles were LaFayette b. 1895, Elizabeth L. born 1899, and Helen born 1903. They lived in DeKalb Co., IN in 1900 and 1910. Her parents May and Ephraim lived in Defiance County, Ohio in 1920, when a year later Ephraim died leaving more debts than assets. His wife May and daughter Etta May Kelley were forced into the County Home and Children's Home because they were destitute. Anyone who is related to Etta May Kelley is asked to contact the Defiance County Records Center at 419-782-8918 or recordcenter@defiance-county.com to claim her Bible.

William E. Depew (b. Dec. 4, 1829 Ind.) Bible found!!

In my quest for further information on my Dupee family line, I have learned (because of the many ways that name has been spelled over the years) that it is wise to look at any and all information that comes along concerning Dupee, Dupree, Dupuis, Depew, etc...

Recently a dear friend of mine (Donna Pfitzner) discovered an old Bible that belonged to William E. Depew. She was kind enough to pass along to me the written entries in that Bible. Since the discovery of that Bible, I have done some research on that 'Depew' family.

If anyone out there has an interest in what this Bible has to say then I will glady post that information on this message board. Also, I am very anxious to correspond with anyone who has information on this family line. Please do not email me personally about this as I want to keep everything out in the open and posted on this message board so that it may be of help to others as well.

Thank you,
Karla

George Bertram DePew,MO.:Proof Please!

I see posted all over a great many boards that George Bertram Depew of Missouri Husband of Arminta Crawford father of Clarence Henry DePew, Joseph Madison DePew, and Bessie Eddings DePew died in Ill. I am the great grand daughter of Clarence Henry DePew Whom I had the honor and great pleasure of knowing in my everyday life until his passing in 1993. His father George Bertram DePew was married to Florence Stuckey at the time of his passing. I hapen to know for fact that Florence lived in Missouri at the time of George's passing and there after until her death. Due to the spelling of the last name in this article and the mention of a letter written to his wife in Oklahoma I have a problem with linking this article with George Bertram of MO. I am going to try and locate and contact Vernon DePew who is one of Geroge and Florence's children and try to retrieve the facts of George's Death. I am unsure at this time who is still with us so it may take some time to locate their living children.

Transient killed in Normal Yards, G. B. Depue, 50, a transient, was killed by train no. 10 in the Alton Railroad Company's Normal Yards at 5:35 a.m. Saturday when he stepped from between two cars on an adjacent track at a private crossing, and directly in front of the train. The man was identified by corner Lloyd G. Shoemaker, who found a letter giving the name of his wife and her address in Quinton, OK. The letter stated she should be notified in the case of accident. The train crew was composed of Conductor R. H. Filson, engineer E. Goodfellow, ans fireman L. Watt. They will appear in inquest to be held at 2:30 p.m. at the courthouse. Mrs. Depue was notified but no reply has been recieved Sat. night.

DePuy - Staten Island, NY (and who is Ann Greegs?)

Note really about Enos, but...
I'm transcribing the genealogy by Helen Louise Depuy (Mobile, AL) that she constructed and left with the Staten Island Historical Society into a gedcom file for personal reference and have found a questionable relationship.
Annie Greegs, bapt 1722/32?, is the second of 5 children of Magdalena Depuy, b. BEF 1706 and Thomas Greegs. Anna Greegs, with siblings that sound like the siblings of Annie (Pieternelle, John, Maria, Martinus) married John Depuy, b. 1759. If Anna and Annie are the same person, as they appear to be, then John married an aunt 30 years his senior because John's father Moses is Annie's cousin.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
