DEPUTY and DUPERTY/DEPERTY: Same Surname?

I have been endeavoring to find some information on a Rose DUPERTY/DEPERTY; she married a James A. Barclay. This is the data that some older family members had put together many years ago in their research. I have not found anyone else with a surname to match the records I have, but when I found the DEPUTY surname, it seemed a good theory that these surnames sound much alike. Any ideas? I have been told it sounds like "De-per-ty(tee)"; so, I can see why there could've been many different spellings of the original surname. Since most of my family lines begin in America in either DE or VA, the DEPUTY VA/WV records do match up with the dates I have. I'm stuck, however, on my BARCLAY line at this couple:
James A. Barclay...b1801/02...PA? (poss. Perry Co.)
Rose Duperty/Deperty....b1801/02....PA? (pos.Perry Co)
son: Ephraim Barclay....b25 Jan, 1836...PA, Perry
Sp: Elizabeth M. Blair...b1834-PA Co.

I would appreciate anyone's help and/or ideas. Also, I read somewhere that there is an annual family reunion in June....who is the leader? I would like to contact someone that has a full registar of the DEPUTY line. Thank You!
