Yes I've heard the story but I was told there were four brothers. They had been knighted and then fell out of favor and had to leave the country in a hurry. When they arrived the brothers went in different directions.
One of the women that married into the family had German blood.

I have quite a bit on your Stonewall but if you would like to email me directly I can send it to you that way. I have he was the son of James William who was the son of Preston and Lucinda Benson DeRossett. I believe Preston was the son of Samuel and Mary Polly Sollomon DeRossett. This Ssamuel fought in the Revolution on the Virginia line. I believe this Samuel had at least three children, Solomon, James and Preston but possibly a William. Still working on that one. You can email me at dirtsmom1@gmail.com
Anne

THe Derossett that fought in the Revolution was Moses J.DeRossett.He was the son of Louis Armand and Madeline De Uzes. He was born in London 12-21-1726, so he was 50 at the time he fought in the Revolution. He was a Colonel in the Virginia Militia. I have been researching the DeRosset(Darosett-DeRossitt)line for my children. Their fathers grandfather was Stonewall Darosett(We were always told that Stonewall's middle name was Jackson, but the only census I have been able to find lists the middle initial "A". )I know that is the correct one because of the wife,Mamie, and the children. Also the residence(Ruddles Mills,Ky)is correct. It lists his birthplace as Illinois. The childrens names are-1.Leslie-2.Gertrude(m-William Beagle)-3.Addle-4.Bessie(m-??Ruffor Rough)-5.Virgie-(m Henry Young)6.Bruce(m-Anne Elizabeth Fryman)-7.Ruby-(m???Oliver)8.Ussery(Usher)m-Barbara Curtis)-9.John c(M3times-1.Sue Shum-2Billie Adams-3.Juanita Stevens).Mom(Gertrude)said she had a baby brother that died as an infant. His name was Winfred Scott Darosett. She also said she had a 1/2 brother named Onie Darosett and a 1/2 sister named Fannie Darosett.I'm kind of at a standstill here.Anything you can help me with I'd appreciate.Thank you.

I am looking for any info on my son's biological grandmother. His father was Gerald "Jerry" Leroy Cass born in California in 1961. My son wanted to know about his paternal birth grandma and we have tried looking fr her. I believe this is the woman. Sorry to see that she has passed away. If anyone that knew her could pass along some info we would appreciate it. Jerry died in 2003 and always wondered about his biological mother.

I remember reading about this and think that he must have been a hard soldier to capture. He was the youngest of Samuel and Mary and first apprears in Montgomery Co. KY in the 1810 census. He stays in the area and the county lines keep shifting as new counties form from Montgomery. The terrain in this area is very mountainess and a person that was reared here would be able hide easily.

Hi, I am Sabrina's mom. A little late with posting but, just wanted to let you know. Wilma Jean DeRossett was born in TN. I would have to get my papers out, a little while later moved to WV. Wilma Jean DeRossett Cooke married Raymond Glenn Cooke Sr. Together they had Raymond Glenn Cooke Jr. (this is Sabrina and my son's father) then they had Donald Lee Cooke, and a son named Ronald Cooke, Ronny died as a baby I believe. My sons name is Raymond Glenn Cooke also but with 3rd on end of it, he lives in Virginia Beach.

I have heard this and that when they came to America one went west, one went north and one stayed in North Carolina. Unfortunately I have not found any names to verify which DeRossetts these were. I only know there was a DeRossett who came to help fight in the Revolution but was not received by the distant relative in North Carolina. I have traced your line back to a Samuel (1740-1801) who had at least three sons. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Since I posted that message I have been told that my Margaret DeRossett was not the one married to Elijah. It is possible that she was his sister. I don't know if she had her two daughters out of wedlock or what. Her daughter, also named Margaret DeRossett, was my GGrandmother. I am presently living in TN. I had no idea that there was a town named DeRossett. DeRossett is not exactly a common name but I have never been able to figure out how she fits into the family. If you have an extra Margaret in your information I would really appreciate anything you can tell me. She would have been born in the late 1700's.

David Crockett DeRossett was born April 1863 in Tennessee to Byron and Malinda McCann DeRossett. Byron was born in 1826 and died Aug 12, 1899 in Tennessee. Name on tombstone Byram. Malinda was born in 1823 in Tennessee (unknown date of death). They were married Sept 4, 1851 in White County, Tennessee. Known (to me) children are William A, Mary Ann, Catherine, David, Elias and John. Byron is the son of Elijah and Nancy. Elijah was born in 1788 in Virginia and Nancy was born in 1792 in North Carolina. Elijah and Nancy had eleven children. It is believed Elijah's father's name was Lewis Daniel and was born in 1760 in Virginia and died in 1822 in White County, Tennessee.
