Can anyone shed light on the identity of the Thomas H. Derreberry/Derryberry of McDowell Co., NC who married Nancy Bates in 1860? I believe he is the same Thomas H. Derryberry of McDowell Co. who enlisted in the Civil War and died of disease shortly thereafter.

His widow Nancy and children moved to Spartanburg Co., SC where they seem to have adopted the spelling "Dearybury." Oddly, three of her 4 Dearybury children (William, Benjamin, Overton F., and Laura) were born after Thomas supposedly died, so I suspect she may have married another Derreberry after his death, and this other Derreberry was also dead by 1880.

Nancy (now Dearybury) remarried William Davis in Rutherford Co., NC in 1881, but this was probably short-lived, as she is again using the surname Dearybury in 1900.

Can anyone identify Thomas or the possible second Derreberry husband of Nancy? Thomas and Nancy were both born about 1837, and I have been unable to find Nancy and her family in the 1870 census anywhere. Thanks,
