Eldon "Bud" DeShane was born 15 Feb. 1915 at Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois and died 8 August 1970 at Rock Island, Rock Island County, Illinois. He is buried at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. He was my great uncle. We are currently working on a Drummond -Deshane tree with Vickery. Can you email me at cmjttt@sbcglobal.net and tell me your connection. Thanks, Tom

I am looking for any info on a Eldon or Elsdon (nickname Bud) Deshane from the Rock Island, Il or Davenport, Iowa areas. He would have been born around 1915 and had a sister named Harriet or Hattie born about 1905. His first wife's name was Caroline. They were married around 1935 and were married for about 10 years.

I found a Deshane family in that area in the 1920 cencus with a Hattie listed but Eldon was not listed.I found a death record but can't find anything else. Anyone have any info? I seem to have run into a brick wall.

Hi...my ancestor was Pearl DeShane, d/o Oran DeShane & Jemima Meeks. They also lived in the Marlbank area where my grandmother (Vera Meeks) was born. I do have a few missing links to your DeShane family and was wondering if you would be interested in sharing. When did Truman die? Annie & Ethel are buried together according to their tombstones but Truman's transcript isn't there. What was Ethel's maiden name & when did she marry Truman (I'm guessing after 1956 because that was when his first wife died). Children I show for him were: Calvin, Hubert Basil, Kathleen, Lavina, Ruby, Beatrice Mae (married Walter Oliver). Looking forward to hearing from you.
There is likely a connection to the french surname that actually means strong or oak TREE.. it is still in use as aname and also as a name for champagne.. the spellings vary however the meaning is always the tree..
Funny like a family tree in this case...
Anyway ..i have lived in france now for two years..The name comes from Normandy...
thats about all i can tell ya after that its up to you to find the connections..
In fact this is my middle name..But it came to be my last name and now I believe there was a reason for that..
Les

Seeking Information/Family of Michael DeShane and Ellen Vincent

I have birth registrations for the following children of Michael DeShane and Ellen Vincent: (1) Mary DeShane, born 4th October 1875 in Chatham, Kent, Ontario, Canada; (2)Daniel DeShane, born (illegible)registered 14th October 1875. Born in Chatham, Kent. On the registration sheet for Daniel is also a Ruby Marie, daughter of James DeShane and Alice Somers. She was born April 10, 1906 in Wallaceburg. I don't know who they are either... but they must be related.

Daniel married Ida May Powers. They had Norman Michael DeShane on 9th March 1906 in Wallaceburg, Kent, Ontario, Canada. In 1908 Daniel, Ida and Herman Michael came through Port Huron, Michigan on their way to Tulsa Oklahoma. They cited their last permanent residence as Sarnia, and the name and address of the nearest relative as Daniel Deshane of Wallaceburg.

My Deshanes also came to Oklahoma, and my grandfather Milton Garber DeShane (son of Daniel Vardy DeShane and Ora Alice Cooley) talked about some other DeShanes that they had Fourth of July with when he was a kid. I dont know if this could be the family.

Wondering if anyone knows the father of this Michael Deshane? He would have been born in the mid 1850s? I assume in Canada. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thank you.
Alice

Hey Karen!

Thanks for the correction! I wondered what had happened to that first James...now i know he was not a Deshane, but a McCurry...that would explain why/how he disappeared from the records.

It is so clear that we can not solely rely on census records! I'll update my family database!

Thanks so much,
Laurie

Not all of the children with Eli & Rachel Deshane in 1850 are Deshanes. James age 19, William age 16, Elizabeth age 14, and John age 11 are the children of Eli's second wife Sarah McPhaill McCurry by John McCurry. They should have been identified as McCurry, not Deshane. All of them are later found with the last name of McCurry. I have Eli's probate file and these children are not mentioned. Eli died February 17, 1867 and his probate file identifies his widow, Rachel, and children Andrew E. Deshane, George W. Deshane, Martha J. (James) Rogers, Otis S. Deshane, Mary F. Deshane, William Deshane, and (first name blank) Deshane. The child whose name is left out should be Stella, born about 1862 who is with Rachel in the 1870 census.

Eli and all three of his wives are buried at Kirkland Cemetery near Walshville.

I have not seen anything about a son Caleb but would be very interested. My ancestors are Caleb Garrison who married Susannah Clark and I'm working on proving Susannah's connection to Levi's last wife, Rachel Clark. If Rachel had a son Caleb he would have most likely been named for Caleb Garrison and that would be significant.

Hi
I have a PRINTICE Deshane who married a Mary M Gladding. They lived in Norfolk New York. Most of my info is from census' so not much is proved yet. But I believe he was a child of Peter Deschane and Mary Jane Bordo (sp?). I have Peter's Civil War Pension file which if I remember correctly lists him as a child (no reference to an adoption) If any of this rings any bells let me know and I would be happy to send you anything I have.
Tracy

I don't believe that the two are the same. (1) Joseph and Olive DeShane's children all have English names -- Joseph, John, Francis, Peter, James, Elizamary, etc... most of the families of the Miville Dechenes in Quebec have French names. (2) Joseph's name is spelled out on his will, with the spelling being DeShane. I have corresponded with a gentleman in Canada who agrees that the two are not the same. I would love to find out just exactly who his father and mother are though. Family stories say that Christiana Vardy, wife of Paul Sylvester DeShaen, called Paul her French boy. So, I assume that they were French.
