I see that this message was first posted a number of years ago, but I am also a descendant of the Desjarlais family of Marlboro, AB. My Great Grandmother was Adeline Gray, daughter of Sophie Desjarlais. I visited Marlboro a couple of years ago to go see Sophie Desjarlais' gravestone. Lavone, do you happen to know of Sophie, and possibly if we're related?

Thanks,
Janet Fowler

Dan,
The church record also says that Madeleine was a "sister of Ambroise Joubert" but I think that information is not correct. I do not know who Madeleine's parents were or how she ended up in Minnesota. For that matter, I don't know how Ambrosie Joubert, son of Augustine Joubert and Marie Theotiste Hebert, ended up in Minnesota or where he was married (he was born in Canada).
Marybeth

I have that Godfroi and Madeleine were married 24 Jan 1876 in Corcoran Catholic Church, Hennepin county, MN. I've looked at the church records in Corcoran.
Marybeth Jubert

Re: Louis Desjarlais

More puzzle pieces:

In the 1880 Census, Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) is living in the household of Felix Laplante in Little River, Oconto, Wisconsin, and is listed as a nephew.

If you look at the actual census page, there are "Vartz" families above and below the Felix Laplante household entry. The entry directly above is for Jacob and Rosalie "Vartz". I believe the "Vartz" are one in the same as the "Wirtz", and this Jacob and Rosalie are the parents of Sophie Wirtz/Vartz, (b 1838) wife of George Desjarlais (b 1831).

This lends more evidence that the wife of Felix Laplante was Julia Wirtz/Vartz/Vertz, the aunt of Louis Desjarlais (b 1865). I also found several marriage records for children of Felix Laplante and Julia Vertz on familysearch.org.

This link is to the 1880 Census record (if may work even if you don't have an Ancestry.com paid subscription, I think they allow viewing of the 1880 census to all for free) http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1880usfedcen&a...

============================================================

There is a transcription for a land grant in Menominee, Michigan made to George Desfarlais(sic), 16 Feb 1889, found here: http://files.usgwarchives.org/mi/menominee/land/menominee.tx....

The actual record can be viewed here: http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=0&indiv=tr.... [A subscription to Ancestry.com is required to view the record here]

===========================================================

TIMELINE of EVENTS

-1831- George Desjarlias is born in Quebec, Canada
-1854- George Desjarlais (b 1831) marries Sophie Wirtz/Vartz/Vertz in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
-1856- Rosella/Rosalie is born to George Dejarlais and Sophie Wirtz in ?Ontario?
-1859- Jim is born to George Dejarlais and Sophie Wirtz in ?Ontario?
-1865- Louis Desjarlais is born to George & Sophie Wirtz in Manitowoc, Wisconsin
-1870- George Desjarlais (b 1831), wife Sophie, children Rosalie, Jim & Louis Desjarlais (b 1865), live in Egg Harbor, Door, Wisconsin.
-1800- Rosella Deshaler/Desjarlais (b abt 1856) dies 20 May 1880, Egg Harbor, Door, Wisconsin.
-1880- Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) lives with his aunt, Julie (Wirtz) Leplante, in Little River, Oconto, Wisconsin.
-1887- Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) marries Emily Brusso/Brousseau in Menominee, Michigan
-1889- George Desjarlais (b 1831) receives land grant in Memominee, Michigan
-1893- George Desjarlais (b 1831) sells Menominee, Michigan land to Louis Dejarlais (b 1865)
-1900- Louis (b 1865) & Emily Desjarlias & family reside in Menominee, Michigan
-1910- Louis (b 1865) & Emily Desjarlias & family reside in Menominee, Michigan
-1916- Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) passes away in Menominee, Michigan

============================================================

Who were the parents of Emily Brusso/Brousseau (b 1872)? Some of the records for her also indicate she was born in Wisconsin.

Tracking all the lines (maternal are as important as paternal), and building all the families add pieces to putting together a puzzle. You can never find too much data.

**NOTE, data in the post has been edited 30 Aug 2011, to remove assertions that have been proved to be in error.

Hi Nadya and Bill,

Bill asked;

"How were you able to connect Louis to Louisville Quebec?"

The Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) mentioned in the original query was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. This is documented.

It was his *grandfather*, Louis Dejarlais, (b 1798) who was born in Louiseville, Quebec and I've found ***new info*** to support this supposition.

================

Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) was the son of George Dejarlais (b abt 1832) and Sophie (maiden?) (b abt 1840).

I've found a transcription for the marriage record of George Desjarlais (b abt 1832) to a Sophie Wirtz (b abt 1840) here: http://www.2manitowoc.com/marD.html

**The 1860 Census (below the marriage record transcription), has Sophie is in the household of her parents, however it appears she was married well before the 1860 enumeration.

========

DE JARLAR: George
b: Canada
res: Two Rivers
p: Lewis and Clutteen deJarlar
m: 9 Jan. 1854 by Timothy Harrington, J.P., at res. of Jacob Wirtz
wit: Jacob Wirtz, Sr., Jacob Wirtz, Jr., Joseph Langveau (co. mar. index v.1 p.27)
to: Sophia Wirtz b. Canada
p: Jacob and Rose Wirtz

=======================

1860 United States Federal Census [Ancestry.com transcription]

Name: Sophia Wertz
Age in 1860: 	22
Birth Year: 	abt 1838
Birthplace: 	Canada
Home in 1860: Gibson, Manitowoc, Wisconsin
Gender: 	Female
Post Office: 	Larrabee

Household Members:
Name 	Age
Jacob Wertz 	43
Rosalie Wertz 	46
Fev Wertz 	25
Charles Wertz 	20
Sophia Wertz 	22
Taffita Wertz 	18
Lailla Wertz 	17
Philomela Wertz 14
Jacob Wertz 	12
Joseph Wertz 	11
Mitchell Wertz 	16
Josephine Wertz 6
Salomon Wertz 	5
Julia Wertz 	3

[Have a look at the actual census record, you can track the families' movement, from Canada to Wisconsin to Michigan to Wisconsin by the children's birth pattern.] I would research the Wirtz family. I suspect that George (b 1831) and Sophie met one another before Wisconsin, and George possibly followed her there.

=========

This following entry is directly above Sophie's, it appears to be for Sophie's grandparents (and her aunt, Louise).

1860 United States Federal Census

Name: Jacob Werts
Age in 1860: 	71
Birth Year: 	abt 1789
Birthplace: 	Switzerland
Home in 1860: Gibson, Manitowoc, Wisconsin
Gender: 	Male
Post Office: 	Larrabee

Household Members:
Name 	Age
Jacob Werts 	71
Angeline Werts 	60 [b Canada]
Louisa Werts 	34

==========================================================

Regarding the birth of George Desjarlais (b abt 1832).

I posted this in a post above: "I did find a bap record for a George Desjarlais, b 14 Aug 1831, Yamaska (St Michel), Quebec. Yamaska is adjacent to Louisville. Son of Louis Desjarlais (b 1798) and Clothide Labonne."

The marriage record of George Desjarlais (b 1831) to Sophie Wirtz (b abt 1838) indicates his parents are "Lewis and Clutteen deJarlar". I believe there is enough evidence to conclude the bap record I found is indeed for your George Desjarlais (b 1831), and his parents were Louis Desjarlais (b 1798) and Clothide Labonne (b abt 1801).

=============================

In regard to the 1870 Census for George Desjarlias (b 14 Aug 1831).

1870 United States Federal Census

Name: 	George Deslyailer
Birth Year: 	abt 1832
Age in 1870: 	38
Birthplace: 	Canada
Home in 1870: Egg Harbor, Door, Wisconsin
Race: 	White
Gender: 	Male

Household Members:
Name 	Age
George Deslyailer 	38
Sophia Deslyailer 	30
Rosalie Deslyailer 	11
Jim Deslyailer     	10
Louis Deslyailer 	5

All the children are cited as being born in Canada, we know that not to be true of the youngest, Louis. The two elder children Rosalie Dejarlais and Jim Desjarlais may have been born in Ontario, Canada, in an area close to the Wisconsin or Michigan border.

The whereabouts of Rosalie Dejarlais** and Jim Desjarlais after the 1870 Census are still areas to research.

======================================================

Have death records for George Dejarlais (b 1831) and Sophie (Wirtz) Desjarlais (b abt 1838) been found? Presumably in Michigan?

Per the statement of nadyajen1, in 1893, George (b 1831) sold the farm in Stephenson, Menominee, Michigan to his son, Louis (b 1865).

Have George Dejarlais (b abt 1831) and Sophie (b abt 1838) been found in the 1900 Census?

==========================================================

In the 1880 Census (see post above), Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) is indicated as a nephew in the household of Felix Leplante. Sophie Wirtz (m/o Louis) has a sister, Julie, listed in the 1860 Census, (b abt 1857). It seems likely the wife of Felix, Julie (b abt 1858 in the 1880 Census) is Sophie's sister.

===========================================================

Moving further back to Canada and the Louiseville connection.

The marriage of the parents of George Dejarlais (b 14 Aug 1831).

=====

Louis Desjarlais (b 1798-d 1862), (s/o Pierre Desjarlais & Euphosine Saucier) married:

Clothide Labonne (b abt 1801-d 1878) (d/o Joseph Labonne & Marguerite Lemothe Duaime)

married on: 10 Apr 1820, Louiseville (St-Antoine-de-Rivière-du-Loup), Maskionge, Quebec, Canada.

If you need help tracing the line further back, let me know. familysearch.org has the database: Quebec Catholic Church Records, a free source, not indexed, and Ancestry.com has the database: Drouin Collection (paid subscription) indexed with a healthy degree of error.

============================================================

The Desjarlais family (of George (b 1831) parents and some siblings is found in the 1861 Canadian Census, this link is direct, however only accessible if you have Ancestry.com World Access. George (b 1831) is not in the household in this census. He left Quebec by this time. http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=....

Canada East > Drummond > St-Germain-de-Grantham

Louis Desjarlais b abt 1799
Clothide Labonne b abt 1802
Philomene Desjarlias b abt 1839
Adele Desjarlais b abt 1844
Alsleme Desjarlais b abt 1837 [he's on the following census page, married in his own household, but most likely a sibling of George b 1831]

I suspect the family was in Grantham in 1851, however there is no enumeration for Grantham in the 1851 Canadian Census.

============================================================

I hope this helps in your ancestral search. There are advantages to keeping the dialogue on the message board. You never know who can give you a hand, and other descendants might be out there to connect to.

The generations of families with same naming patterns can get confusing, this is why I include a birth year with nearly every mention, It's helps to keep the generations in line.

DESJARLAIS

Louis (b 1798, Canada) >
George (b 1831, Canada) >
Louis (b 1865, Wisconsin) >
George (b abt 1889, Michigan)

Hello, I have just just started my search and my grandfathers parents are louis and Emily Desjarlais. My grampas name is Herbert and his siblings are:george, Clifford, Della, melviana, and Lucy. My aunty told me that after both Louis and Emily died that George raised the kids until my grampa was about 14 or 15 years old. My grampa Herbert married Evelyn Hamilton November 5, 1940. They had 8 kids(one being my father). I can be reached at lormitgp@telus.net for more.

You're welcome Nadya. You may find your Desjarlias line immigrated to Canada from Belgium. A couple of other Desjarlais lines I've researched show their origin to be Belge. I only researched your line to Louis (b 1798 in Canada) and didn't see any indication (in his 1798 bap record) of where this line emigrated from. I suspect the origin answer lies in the records of his ancestors.

sircrazyhorse,

I posted this above: Louis Desjarlias, b 24 Jan 1865, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
https://familysearch.org/s/recordDetails/show?uri=http%3A%2F...

This is a transcription, as is the marriage info I found for George Desjarlias and Sophie Wirtz. I would get copies of both records to evaluate the information on them for myself.

Info on a death cert is always a bit suspect, the veracity of it depends on the knowledge and memory of the person who gave it. It's no longer a primary source, since the primary source is deceased. Who was the source of the info on Louis Desjarlais'(1865-1916) death cert?

==============

Responding to Bill's post:

There's no debate about the marriage in 1887 of Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) and Emily Brusso/Brousseau, correct?

Nadya writes in a post above, "My father has found the marriage certificate of Louis and Emily at the Catholic church in Stephenson, MI. It verified that they were married June 7, 1887."

Have you two compared notes on this document? Are the parents of both parties listed on the record? The info on the marriage record was given by the principles, and is considered a primary source. The parental info on a marriage record trumps parental info on a death record.

Regarding the inconsistency of birth locations in the Census Records. We never know who in the household was the source of the info given to the census taker. We don't know how precise the census taker was in his duties of recording the info or whether there were language barriers between the info giver and the census taker. I tend to pay more attention to earlier census info, the memory tends to fade in the later years.

[Bill writes]

"Additionally the 1910 Census has him [Louis Desjarlias, b 1865] immigrating from Canada in 1886"

The info on this census (see transcription below) has Louis (b 1865), as well as his parents being born in "Canada English", that indicates Ontario, not Quebec. There is a notation that he was "NA", indicating he was Naturalized at the time of the census enumeration. Have you researched an Application for Naturalization for him? These apps can typically be found at county level. You may not find one for him, the evidence he was born in Wisconsin is fairly solid, however there may be one for his father, George Desjarlais (b 1831) to find. I checked the index for a Naturalization application in Wisconsin, (some of Wisconsin is on-line, Ancestry.com). This link can direct you to how to search for an Naturalization app in Michigan; http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,1607,7-140-54504_18635_20684--....

Nadya mentioned in a post above "Louis and Emma purchased the land in Daggett, MI from George and his wife Sophia in 1893 (my dad has copies of all the mortgage docs and deeds)." Land sale records typically have both spouses names, however not the wife's maiden name, but this seems to reinforce the given name of George's wife was Sophia.

I posed these questions in my last post, and think finding the answers may clear up some of yours.

1) If George (b 1831) and Sophie (b 1838) are both on the land sale record in 1893, this would mean they were both alive in 1893 in Daggett, Menominee, Michigan. The next census is the 1900; have either of them been found in the 1900 Census? What happened to them after 1893? Have either of their death records been found?

2) Louis (b 1865) appears to be the only child of George (b 1831) and Sophie (b 1838). Do you know where he's buried? Call the same cemetery and ask the sexton to check for burial records for George and Sophia.

3) Was George Desjarlais (b 1831) married more than once? I would venture if he was, it was before he was married to Sophia Wirtz in 1864. As I mentioned before, in the 1870 Census, there are two Desjarlais, Rosalie (b abt 1859) and Jim (b abt 1860), that may be children from a first marriage, or they be related in another way to George Desjarlais (b 1831). The only way to find out is by researching them.

================

The 1900 and 1910 Census Transcriptions [Ancestry.com] for Louis Desjarlais

============================================================

1900 United States Federal Census

Name: 	Louis Deshala
Home in 1900: Stephenson, Menominee, Michigan
Age: 	34
Birth Date: Jan 1866
Birthplace: Wisconsin
Race: 	White
Gender: Male
Relationship to head-of-house: 	Head
Father's Birthplace: Wisconsin
Mother's Birthplace: Wisconsin
Spouse's name: 	Emma Deshala
Marriage Year: 	1887
Marital Status: Married
Years Married: 	13

Household Members:
Name 	Age
Louis Deshala 34 [Wisconsin, Wisconsin, Wisconsin]
Emma Deshala 28 [Wisconsin, Wisconsin, Wisconsin]
George Deshala 	11
Luana Deshala 	7
Arala Deshala 	5
Wilford Deshala 3
Lusa Deshala 	1

============================================================

1910 United States Federal Census

Name: Louis Deajarlais
Age in 1910: 45
Estimated birth year: abt 1865
Birthplace: Canada English
Relation to Head of House: Head
Father's Birth Place: Canada English
Mother's Birth Place: Canada English
Spouse's name: 	Emily Deajarlais
Home in 1910: Stephenson, Menominee, Michigan
Marital Status: Married
Race: 	White
Gender: Male
Year of immigration: 1886

Household Members:
Name 	Age
Louis Deajarlais 	45
Emily Deajarlais 	38
George Deajarlais 	21
Milvina Deajarlais 	17
Selia Deajarlais 	15
Wilfred Deajarlais 	13
Lucy Deajarlais 	11
Clifford Deajarlais 	8
Erby Deajarlais 	6
I hope you don't mind me jumping in here.

I see the logic of following George (born 1831) through to his marriage to Sophia Wirtz, and it makes sense that George (born 1831) could have been married once already and brought Rose and Jim into the marriage with Sophia. That is certainly a possibility.

I still struggle with where Louis fits in, though. Even if the marriage record in Manitowac County was incorrectly transcribed and should have been 1864, unless Louis was born significantly earlier than all other records indicate, he would have to have been born after George and Sophia were already married, and as Bill mentioned, that doesn't seem to jive with his death record, which states that his mother was a Julia Decharn.

Maybe that 1865 birth record will help?

Thanks again for your reply and all your help. This part of the family has proven to be difficult. I guess I need to take a step back and look at Louis born in 1865.

I believe I have the correct Louis Desjarlais because of the fathers name and birthdate, as well as Louis birthdate, but on Louis death certificate (02 Apr 1916), it lists Julia Decharn as the mother. Additionally the 1910 Census has him immigrating from Canada in 1886.In 1887 He marries Emily Bruso / Brousseau and they settled in Daggett / Menominee MI. Is it possible that George remarried? Depending on what census you look at, it shows him being born in Wisconsin or Canada. Thoughts?

Bill

Nadya

I am also related to Louis Desjarlais and having the same difficulties. Your GGrandfather George had a younger sister named Melviana Harriet Desjarlais. She is my GGrandmother. How were you able to connect Louis to Louisville Quebec? Are you related to Nancy and Clifford? They are both descendents of George and we have been having this exact discussion recently. I would love to compare notes.

Bill
Billbast@aol.com

I use WHS as an index, and then use the spelling found there to search the record on familysearch.org.

On WHS use 3 letters or more of the surname, Desg, Desj, Dej, Dij, you get the idea.

I also search by first name, birth year and location on familysearch.

Registration of BMD was not mandatory in Wisconsin until 1907, it's not a sure bet there's a record, that's when the parish registers come into play.

Yes, George Desjarlais and Freda Sanderlin Desjarlais were my great-grandparents. We were not sure where Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) had been born, we had been told Canada. It is very good to know it was in Wisconsin.

We will need to move back from the first George Desjarlais (b abt 1832, according to your info below) into Canada. He is kind of our missing link. We know he came into the US, but haven't had any luck finding out where he came from in Canada or who or where the rest of his family were/are.

My dad still lives in Daggett, MI on the farm where he was born which is the land that the first George Desjarlais acquired in 1880. My dad has a copy of the deed for the farm which came out of the land office in Marquette, MI. It shows the land purchased by George Desjarlais in 1880. Because of the date it is possible that he moved to Michigan after the census had already been taken in that area during 1880.

My father has found the marriage certificate of Louis and Emily at the Catholic church in Stephenson, MI. It verified that they were married June 7, 1887. Their son George (the second George) I think would have been born in Michigan. I will have to ask my dad to go back to the church and look for Louis & Emma's children's baptism records. Louis and Emma purchased the land in Daggett, MI from George and his wife Sophia in 1893 (my dad has copies of all the mortgage docs and deeds).

How do I go about doing a search at the Wisconsin State Historical Society? I went to the site and am using their Genealogy Index and am not coming up with any Desjarlais info. Do you have any tricks to help you with your research.

Thank you for all the help. You have given me some great info, the hard part is still tracking the first George into Canada.

Nadya

Hi Nayda,

I used Ancestry.com for the census, Wisconsin State Historical Society for the index of the birth, and familysearch.org for the detail of the birth record.

familysearch.org has all the same census records, I use Ancestry.com for the wildcard search capabilities. These come in handy when dealing with a surname that can vary wildly.

Is the 1900 Census record I posted your ancestor, Louis Desjarlais (b 1865)? If so, the rest of what I posted are records for the same person.

The origin of this Desjarlais branch was from Canada. It's a matter of finding the generation that arrived. In this case it was George Desjarlais (b abt 1832) who arrived, I would guess btw 1860-65. His son Louis (b 1865) was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1865, that is for certain.

Verbal family history is where we all start, but the memory is not a source, documents are. The info on the census is a guideline (narrows time and place) to find primary sources. Primary sources are birth, marriage and death records.

Taking a step back to George Desjarlais, (b abt 1889). I found a marriage record to Freda Sauderlin. The marriage date was 2 Oct 1911, in Stephenson, Menominee, Michigan. The parents of the George are listed as Lewis Dejarlais and Emma Bruso. This record can be found on familysearch.org.

This appears to be the Desjarlais family you are looking for.

The records you need to find are:

1) The bap or birth record for George Desjarlais (b abt 1889). The census has him born in Michigan, however I wouldn't discount Wisconsin. This will confirm his parentage.

2) The marriage record for Louis Desjarlais (b 1865) and Emma (Emily) Burso (b abt 1872). This is providing you have confirmed they are the parents of George, (b 1889). I'm guessing this probably took place in Wisconsin. The key to finding this record is finding where Emma was living, the last census available before her marriage is the 1880. This will take considerable digging to find. The surname Bruso could be French Canadian or German. Unfortunately there are no clues to the origin in the 1900 census, her parents are listed as being born in Wisconsin.

Marriage and birth records in Wisconsin, before 1907 can be non-existent. This is requires searching parish registers, and for that you need the location, the faith (religion) and hope you strike what you're looking for. The FHC has many films, not comprehensive for the Catholic parishes.

Everything you need to find is not available on-line, not by a long shot.

Surname changes are elemental in genealogy research, it's not just this name. Ancestors were illiterate and language barriers between the giver of the census info, or other registrars were common. Learning how to search, and building whole families can give you the info you need to successfully research.

Thank you for all of the information! Did you find this on ancestry.com or some other site?

I can see that the surname gets changed easily and often. We are still not sure of Louis's father's name and we have been told he came to Michigan in the 1880's out of Canada.

Maybe he was originally from Canada, but had been in the US or Wisconsin prior to arrival in Michigan.

Nadya

I found no results in Quebec or Ontario.
===========================================================

I did find a bap record for a George Desjarlais, b 14 Aug 1831, Yamaska (St Michel), Quebec. Yamaska is adjacent to Louisville. Son of Louis Desjarlais and Clothide Labonne.

The naming pattern indicates this *might* be your ancestor, but without confimation of his (George b abt 1832) marriage record, it's just speculation.

You should prepare yourself for unbelievable alterations of this surname. I find new variations every time I search outside of Canada. Seems census takers didn't bother to ask people how to spell their name. They just took a wild guess. VERY difficult surname to research. I find the best information on FamilySearch.org as they have access to the Canadian Druin Collection of records for free. Of course they are written in French so if you don't speak the language you can come here and beg for help. I do LOL. You can't use an online translator with handwritten records.

Just talked with my Dad. Nancy, I hope you see this. I told him I found a thread about Alfred Desjarlais and that a Nancy had responded that she was Mae's daughter. Mae being Alfred's sister. He says he went to your wedding in the mid-1960's in Chicago.

I did not know about your mother Mae and when I asked dad who all of my grandpa Melvin's siblings were he reminded me about Aunt Adeline. I had forgotten. She passed away when I was probably 8 or 10, I don't remember exactly.

Please e-mail me at nadyajen@gmail.com. I would love to learn what you know about the family tree.

Nadya

Hi, I would love to talk to you. My grandfather was Melvin Desjarlais of Daggett, MI. He was Alfred's brother. My father, Robert Desjarlais still lives on the family farm that was originally homesteaded in 1880 by George Desjarlais.

All we know of the family tree is that George acquired the land in 1880, it was then passed to Louis Desjarlais (my great-great-grandfather), then to George Desjarlais (Louis's oldest son), then to my grandfather, Melvin, and on to my father in the 1970's. I know that the 2nd George had Melvin, Alfred and Hazel as children. I never met Alfred, but I do know my great-aunt Hazel.

Please share any information you have. We are just getting started. Up until today my father thought that Louis Desjarlais was the son of a Louis Desjarlais, he didn't know it was a George.

Louis Desjarlais

I am looking for more information on Louis Desjarlais of Louisville, Quebec. He would have been born around 1865. He then moved to Daggett, Mi and had 7 children. The oldest of the 7, George, was my great-grandfather.

My father, Robert Desjarlais, and I are looking for more information on the Desjarlais family in Canada. My father knows that Louis's father was also named Louis and that the family came to Michigan from Louisville, Quebec.

Any information you can share would be helpful. We are just getting started.
