I just seen we have spoken before --maybe we can link into each others tree to see what is what with records to help each other ... we may be speaking about the same family line but I do NOT have enough information on your side to verify it ..I just happen to find your inquiry as I was looking for more information online again.

I am related to the Desmet Family they immigrated to Sturgeon in 1902 Leonard was My GreatGrandfather as he was known to me BUT I do NOT know anything about his parents/siblings but they were from Belgium/Flemish. He has children that live in the Cecil area as well. They had a lumber yard which no longer exists. I have been putting together records for many years on the family so maybe we can help each other. I have lots of pictures that we the family are just now tryin' to translate. I have a feeling that when he immigrated here with his wife Marie that possibly he along with his siblings which I do NOT know also came over to the states.

I am Leonard and Marie Desmet's Great Grandaughter. Peter Seward was married to Leonard Desmet's son Oscar daughter RoseMarie which she is my Aunt. Pete has been passed away many years ago as did Oscar.

I am still trying to link the Desmet line together...I am trying to find my Greatgrand fathers line ..I just posted loads of pictures under his name that the family does not know who people who that they had pictures when he died...
I will get to further lines as time goes on though I hope

Pamela M. DeSmet, age 45, of Oshkosh, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007 at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh. She was born on July 25, 1961 in Oshkosh, the daughter of Eugene J. and Janet M. Beck. Pamela was educated in Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Columbia, Missouri. She was employed as a nurse's aide in Fond du Lac and with Lamico of Oshkosh. She greatly enjoyed reading, camping, gardening, scrap booking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends.

Survivors include her loving partner, Greg Hoff of Oshkosh; her children, Stacie Smith of Fond du Lac, Lucas Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah, Roland and Lindsay DeSmet of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Brandon and Madysen; her parents, Eugene and Janet Beck of Fond du Lac; a brother, Gregory (Sandy) Beck of Cambridge, and a sister Michelle Beck, of Manitowoc. She is further survived by her maternal grandmother, Mary Huisheere and other relatives and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Beck and maternal grandfather, Earl Huisheere.

Funeral services for Pamela will be held privately, however the family will greet friends during a time of visitation and support at the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Avenue in Oshkosh on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Riverside Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may made in her name to the American Cancer Society or the Aurora Visiting Nurses Hospice of Oshkosh.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. House, Dr. Dar, hospice RN Macia Smith and the staff of Aurora Medical Center and VNA Hospice for the exceptional care that Pamela received.

My husband's gandfather came over from Brussels, Belgium, we think in the 1920's, at age 19(?), and he helped to bring over his brothers Amy, Robert, Homer, but his only sister Elsie stayed. I don't know if the spelling was the original on his last name, since none of them spoke english at first. If you have any information on them, please let me know!

My Great Grandmother, Maria Philomenia Billet, married my Great Grandfather, Franciscus Cornelius Van Renterghem, in Belgium before coming to the United States and settled in Mishawaka Indiana. Maria's mother's name was Virginia De Smet, married to UNKNOWN Billiet. If anyone has any information regarding my relatives, please contact me.

Marie Jacqueline Matthys was born to Jean Pierre Matthys and Marie Catherine Desmet. She married Jacques Dhooge. They had a son, John Bernard who was born 10 Dec 1807 in Ertvelde, East Flanders, Belgium.

Any further information on the Matthys or Desmet family would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on Peter Desmet born 12/13/1867 in Teverne or Gilly Belgium, parents Frank Desmet & Josephine Badean. Immigrated to Pa approx 1902, occupation coal miner in Sturgeon Pa. Eventually married Marie (Debodt) Hoebeke and moved to Pottsville Pa between 1915 & 1918.

Thank you very much for responding to my query.
The Desmets are connected to my Dhooge branch who came from Boekhoute, East Flanders, Belgium. They emigrated to the USA and settled in NY State and NJ. The Gyselinck branch was the only one that I know to date that moved from NJ to PA.

My Desmet family comes from Sturgeon & pottsville Pa and my grandparents came from Belgium in the Grammont area which is near Marchienne. I don't have any of your names in my database. But my grandfather's side who was Peter Desmet is murky. I have never been able to find siblings. His parents were Frank & Josephine Badean.
