i have a holy bible printed in 1876 with the name "Georgiana Deter" hand wrote on the front page. this book has been in my family for over 100 years now. we have no idea of whom Georgiana is and how she would be related to us. with in the book there are several hand written papers with childrens names and dates of birth. i know that the book once belong to my great grandmother sadie her husband juilus kurtz.

Teater-Teter YDNA Project

Several Teater-Teter cousins began a YDNA project in 2009 to test unproven theories connecting Teter families of the 1700s-1800s. Our ten participants so far include descendants of Samuel Teter and Mary Doddridge, George Teater & Sarah (Pearis?), Samuel Teeter & Marium Smither, Hans Jorg Dieter & Margaretha Luttmann, Elisha Teeters & Mary Wilson, James Teeters & Esther Shook, George Teter & Sarah Fowler.

A pattern is emerging among descendants of George Teater & Sarah (Pearis?) and of Samuel Teter & Mary Doddridge. Other participants are currently unique.

We need more participants from these family groups and from groups that are not yet represented (Deeter, Deter, ...). Males with a variation of the Teter surname inherited through their paternal line, from their biological father, paternal grandfather, etc., qualify to participate. Observers are also welcome.

By any chance do you have a Christopher Deter and wife Lavina in your family tree? Christopher would have been born around 1795-1800. He had a son Edward C Deter born in PA in Dec 1826.

CHRISTIAN DETER is living with his son PHILLIP DETER in Limestone, Union, PA in 1850. I believe that Christians's wife was named LAVINIA. I believe his other children were SALLAMY, MATHIAS, JACOB and EDWARD. I am looking for information on this family.

Hello--Some way we keep running in to one another. I am not certain if this is just due to erroneous information, or there really is a connection. My grandparents were Lora Etta Taylor Hutcheson and Lee Howard Hutcheson. I KNEW BOTH OF THESE PEOPLE VERY WELL! Thus far, I have not found any other common relatives unless you are related in some way to Catherine Dinah "Kate" Hunter Hutcheson who was married to Thomas Warren Hutcheson. After his death she married a Bowman and they had at least one child. Kate and Thomas were my paternal grandfather's grandparents. Please let me know if we share a connection, or if I have just added to the confusion.

Edward C Deter is my great,great grandfather. Born in Pennsylvania around 1828. His wife is listed as "A Jane" on the 1870 census. Two of his children, Edward S (b 1864) and Agnes J (b 1865) were born in PA. Two more children, Harriet B (b 1866) and Ellen (b 1870) were born in Iowa.

I'm looking for any information on Edward C Deter in Pennsylvania.

I have an Elizabeth Billmire, born January 22, 1781 in Lower Antietum, Washington County, Maryland, married Philip Deter about 1803. Her parents are listed as Martin Billmire and Catharina Thomas. That is the only information I have for her, the family I am working on are the Deters

Bradley David Deter was my great great grandfather also. That makes us cousins. He was married to Amelia Frances Dawson. I believe that Frances died in Martinsburg, West Virgina, where she live with her daughter Lula Deter Kimes. But I can't prove that. Any help pinpointing Frances death place and burial would be greatly appreciated.

Frances lived with my mom Evely Katherine Deter (daughter of Harry Mervin Deter) up until Harry's death in 1941. My mom was very young (not quite 5 years old) at her father's death. She says her only recollection if Frances was of an old lady, lyinig on the couch, chewing tobacco and spitting into an empty can.

Im not sure if this helps...i think our info is one in the same. My great-great-grandfather was Bradley Deter (although i have his middle name as Diehl or David) born 1861 or 1862 in Frederick, MD, died Feb 15, 1923. He was married to Frances Amelia (or possibly Amelia Frances) last name unknown, born @ 1868 in Cumberland, MD. I have info on Bradley's family going back to 1600's Germany. I realize my response is a few years after your post...but I hope to hear from you!

Hi, I am helping a Cuz/long term family friend find her sister.
What We know so far is this:
Her mothers name was Jennette Deter, Jennettes parents where from Holland we think and where Dutch. Jennette was a Middle child , she had a younger brother and Older Sister. They lived on Patrica Ave, they lived four houses away from Karen Skinners Parents which where house #316 .at the time Jennette Became pregnant.
The child would of been born abt 1971, Karen Skinner & Jennette where best friend at the time. Karen was pregnant at the time as well. Karens baby fatehr and soon to be Husband Ken Barrett was the father of Jennettes child as well.
I know it is confussing but Susie would really like to find her sister and get to know her, and there are 3 boys as well Karen & ken had as well as another son to , who would like to met there sister.

I am very interested in your Deter family! I am a descendant of Philip Jr and his wife, Elizabeth Billmeyer Deter. Elizabeth's father was Martin Billmeyer of Hagerstown, MD, died April 1812.

Estate papers in Ashland Co, OH show Philip Deter Sr and his wife, Christina Bower Deter are the parents of Philip Jr, but we still do not know who the father of Philip Sr is - perhaps we can combine efforts to untangle the Deter family.

I have quite a bit of research completed on this family. Rueben's brother Solomon was my 2nd great grand father. I have the line traced to Theobald Teter/Deter, who I believe is the line's ancestor who immigrated from Germany in 1752. I have a family tree posted on Ancestry.com.

My great grandfather was Jacob Henry Deter he married Georgianna Abrecht, Frederick,MD. They had eight children,my Great Aunt Nora Jane Deter was born Nov 2,1882
and died Nov 11,1966. She Married a Karl Emil Rabe from Copenhagen,Denmark, he was born Oct 5,1879 and died March 30,1957.They were a dancing duo touring this country and abroad they were also in big time vaudeville.Hope this helps.

Harry Deter, son of George and Maria (Croft ?) Deter

I am looking for information on Harry Deter, the seventh and last child of George Deter and Maria (possibly Croft). His exact date of birth is unknown, but possibly around 1819. He may have been born in Adam's County, Pennsylvania, where many of his siblings were born. At one time he lived in Dekalb County, Indiana for a short time, but then moved on to Illinois. It is believed he had several children. He may have died around 1870, give or take ten years, in Illinois. The spelling of the last name may vary. Variations may include the following: Dieder, Dieter, Diter, Deither, Deeter, Teetor, Teeters, Teter and Teater. Any help appreciated.

I have little info except my great-grandmother's name was Etha Delora(Deter)Paight.She was married to Albert Paight & she died in July of 1971(the year I was born). Jacob Henry Deter (that is how the name is spelled on his military record) was born in Washington County, Maryland in the 1830s. I believe that he was the son of Jacob Dieter (Deeter or Deter) and Sally (?). He had a brother named Alexander who died very young. Jacob Henry served in the Union Army during the Civil War and received an Honorable Discharge and a pension. Jacob Henry and Georgiana A. Abrecht were married 9/25/1855 in Middletown, Maryland.

Georgiana A. Abrecht was the daughter of John Abrecht (b. 8/5/1803 d. 7/15/1867) and Rebecca Will (b. 12/14/1813). John's parents were George Abrecht (b. 9/3/1754 in Germany d. 4/8/1828) and Maria Magdelena Dorner (Darner) (b. 2/1759 d. 11/24/1852). George Abrecht came to America from Germany as a Hessian soldier during the American Revolution.

Jacob Henry and Gerogiana are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetary in Frederick, Maryland. They are buried in the same plot as their daughter Nora Jane and her husband Karl Rabe.

Harry Deater was my great-grandfather. My grandmother was Nina Deater Delphey (father Harry and mother Anna Lee Simmons). My grandmother left my cousin and I a good start on her family history including photos and the military discharge papers of Jacob.

I live in the Baltimore area and hope to get to the Maryland Hall of Records soon. I am hoping to find some church birth records.

Edward DEJTER (polish version of DETER), a brother of my great- grand-father moved to USA from Poland. But any contact with him was lost and no one knows what he became. I know he was born between 1882 and 1891. His parents were Friedrich DEJTER and Natalia ARNDT. My family says he had children. How much ? Were did he llive ? When did he move to USA ? I don't know.

I would like to hear about the Deter's from woodbridge as I believe that is where my grandfather, Robert A., was from...I am sorry that I missed your note...I do know that they were episcopalean (spelling?) as my grandfather said that his father was a seaman who came back to find that the catholic priest had goats grazing on his children's graves, came back home and pointed to a steeple down in th valley and said: from now on that's our church....so my mother was christened in the episcopal church.
