The Detmer in the Woolen bussiness are the ones that go back to Gerhardt Detmer or Cleveland. They are not related to the Piano Detmers of Chicago, even though the Woolen Detmer's did live in Chicago.
your grandfather was my grandmothers brother, uncle teddy...your great grandma passed away when my grandmother was born, her last name before was Krajewski, your great grandfather gave up my grandmother to her grandmother and she never meet her brother and sister until grade school. She was raised by her aunts and uncles. I think the brother you talked about was really his uncle...i have more family history if you want...i am hoping this is the same ted detmer who lived in a stone house up on a hill in poughkeepsie, he was a great and sweet man who was great friends with my grandfather...they only had one son and one child who passed away at birth....

She is one of 11 siblings (Mary, Ted, Magdelen, Florence, Ed, Florence E., Raymond, Theresa, Regina, & Elizabeth). What is the connection between your family and mine?

Chris,

I don't know if you are still on here, but my grandfather was Ignacy Detmer, your mother's uncle, brother of Franciszek (who married Frances Siudowski). I have conflicting information about where Mary Podlas and Jacob Detmer lived in Poland. Some handwritten notes I have indicate Weglewo and/or Chrostkowo, Poland. I have heard that our family is from Lipno, but don't know where any of this info is coming from or what to believe to be accurate. Please fill in any info you might have. I will share what I have found as well. I am not a member of Ancestry. I live in Averill Park, NY and my maiden name is Catherine Slizewski.

One of Ernest and Julia Detmer's son was named William. He died on June 12, 1975 in Ohio County. He married Mamie SWEAZEY (born December 31, 1881, died June 15, 1979) and they had a son, Ernest (born in 1911. I do not know if he married or had children. There are nieces and nephews of William if you are interested in them.

Where is the property? Is the Park's Dept trying to sell it?

Susan Detmer Oshnock

Thanks. I am not related, but researching descendents to see if there were living relatives. My parks dept. was given a parcel by Will Detmer, who has no living decendents. We were curious if there were others more distantly related who may be interested in the property.

She moved with her parents (my grandparents) to Fort Lauderdale, Florida approximately around 1955. My aunt was married to Bud Detmer approximately around 1962 or 1963. My Aunt was killed in automobile accident in 1964 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and survived by one child. I would like to locate some pictures of my aunt. She attended Fort Lauderdale High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Or, possibly even speak to Bud Detmer. My aunt was previously married in 1958 to a William Pastoria who is also deceased.

Chris, I just spoke to my mother again. Unfortunately, she does not remember that much about her mother's side anymore (she's turning 90). As far as a site for those that did not journey over, I am going to try my cousin. She still sends letters to Poland. She also is getting on in years. I'll try to find what I can. I asked my mother about the names that you mentioned and she just can't remember. Regards, Chris

Hi Carrie,

My grandparents were Charles Dalbke and Lorraine Dettmer ( not sure on the spelling, could be Detmer). They lived in Chicago and had a summer cottage in Montigue, MI. All I know is that Lorraine died very young and Charles moved to Montigue, lived to close to his 90s there. Their son Kenneth Dalbke is my father who I didn’t meet until I was in my late 20s. He moved to Montigue from Chicago and also has two brothers their, Tom & Robert (Bud). Lorraine’s mother was Helen Seaben, again….not sure of the spelling and father William Dettmer. I met some of my father’s siblings at his funeral. I’ve tried to contact them since….they don’t return my calls so I’ve taken the hint . I wish I could get more information from them.

Hope that helped!

Christine
Patches65@comcast.net
Hello to Award 1999. I noticed your March 2008 posting. I can't remember if we've been in touch. A number of us are working on your Detmer line that starts with James Detmer, son of GH Detmer of Cleveland (b1799-1883). Of the approx. 9 children, (still sorting), we know of the following having been in Cincinnati at one time:

1860 US Census:

Henry (b circa 1837), age 23	“Merchant Tailor” Ohio

Mary (b circa 1841), age 19	- Ohio

Catherine (b circa 1843), age 17	- Ohio

James P. (b circa 1844), age 16 Ohio

Amandes (b circa 1848), age 12	- Ohio

Louisa (b circa 1854), age 6	- Ohio

Also, this Ancestry.com message board seems a little different. I apologize in advance for my slow response, if you tried once. Here's my contact: flanagan112@hotmail.com
This is wonderful. I am replying to Angela about the Detmer clan. If you would like to be included feel free to contact me at flanagan112@hotmail.com. We have a lot of Detmer history and filling in the gaps for James Detmer and his descendants. We would welcome more participants for that line. Many Detmer descendants in Cincy during the mid-late 1800s. The DETMER clan started out with GH DETMER in Cleveland around 1834-35. Some of the Detmers made a name for themselves (one being my Great grandfather, Julian Detmer). We are not related to Ty or Amanda and some of the other current stars (as far as I know--I think they originated in Penn). Pat Russell

Detmer and Leota Willis. I can tell you that Paula is not the daughter of Jack Detmer unless there is another one in the family. I have heard of talk of a John Detmer. Not sure who Paula's parents are but I think I can find out from my father or Aunt Deanna (Detmer) Yelton. You mentioned Jullian Detmer of the Detmer Woolen Mill was your Great Grandfather. I am trying to find the link in our family where Jullian fits. My father has told me stories his father had told him about Jullian but we don't know who his parents or siblings are. Could you tell me anything? I would be very appreciative. Thanks!

Hi. My name is Angela Renee' Detmer. I am the youngest of two daughters of Jack R. Detmer. Aunt Ginny's Half brother. I live in Colerain Twp. in Cincinnati. I only met aunt Ginny a few times. The one occation that stands out in my mind is the time aunt Ginny and uncle Bob came in to town with their moble home to visit my grandmother, Leota Detmer, and brought her pet dingo with her. It was so much fun to play with. I think I was in high school then. My Aunt Dee Dee (Ginny's half sister) still keeps in touch with Robin, I think. I am new to this whole ancestry thing, but having a ball. The one question I would liked answered is... Where is Jullian Detmer of the Detmer woollin mill related to us? My grandfather used to talk to my dad about Jullian Detmer but my father doesn't know where Jullian is related to us.

I have been researching my Detmer (Dettmer/Dettmar) and Gerken Brooklyn NY families---they worked in the grocery businesses. Most of them came from Germany in the late 1840s--settling first in lower-Manhattan (Little Germany) and then moving to Brooklyn. My great-grandfather Henry Detmer died in a flu epidemic in the mid-1800s with 3 of his young daughters--there were no sons. He was married to Rebecca Gerken--a family which had grocery shops in Manhattan& the boros, as well as over in NJ. It's a big complicated family. I found a connection with the Muehler family --also, grocers and owners of the Dettmar/Gerken/Muehler plot in Lutheran Cemetery in Queens Village. Have you made any progress with your Detmer research?
