Susan, thank you for your reply. Since posting this query, I found on the 1930 census: John Fischer(head), Elizabeth Fischer (wife), Cwith children: John, Ruth, Elizabeth, Jean Fischer and Dorothy E. Hart(step-daughter). Dorothy Hart was born abt. 1917. I concluded that Elizabeth must have been married before, but was unable to find any reference to that fact other than the child listed as a step-daughter. Your reply has filled in several blanks for me. Thank you so very much.

Re: Detwailer/Detweiler in PA

Hi Dessie,

I first found the people you were looking for on the SSDI.

JOHN M FISCHER 22 Dec 1897 30 Dec 199318901 (Doylestown, Bucks, PA)(none
specified)177-09-9417Pennsylvania

and of course:

ELIZABETH FISCHER 09 Sep 1897 24 Apr 1998 (V)18936 (Montgomeryville,
Montgomery, PA)19446 (Lansdale, Montgomery, PA)177-09-9555Pennsylvania

I then went to Rootsweb.com and checked on John and Elizabeth. I found John
as a son of immigrant Martin Fischer and wife Sarah Munzinger, who had a
family of six children: Charles, George, William, John, Martin and Anna.

Searching for Elizabeth I found an interesting Item. The SSDI has this about Elizabeth:
ELIZABETH FISCHER 09 Sep 1897 24 Apr 1998 (V)18936 (Montgomeryville,
Montgomery, PA)19446 (Lansdale, Montgomery, PA)177-09-9555Pennsylvania

This birthdate corresponds to another Elizabeth Detweiler that married
Nelson Hart but he died in 1918. I also found no Elizabeth Hart in the SSDI
who died, born 9 Sep 1897.

Since both birth dates are the same, I must conclude that they are one and
the same woman. So it seems that after Nelson Hart died, Elizabeth married
John Fischer.

Elizabeth G. Detweiler who married Nelson Hart was born: 6 Sep 1897 to Henry
S. Detweiler (born 23 Jul 1864 died 17 Jul 1919) and Mary Ann Gottshall
(born 29 Jan 1865 died 16 Aug 1920). Nelson Hart was born 26 May 1894 and
died 15 Aug 1918. So Elizabeth married John Fischer sometime after Nelson
died.

Nelson and Elizabeth had one daughter, Dorothy Hart.

I hope this helps.

Susan Hunsicker
I am looking for info on my husbands grandmother. I know she married Paul Edward Gutshall, She was born in 1925 in PA, died in 1999 in Middletown Pa. His mom only knew she had a brother named William, and his Aunt told me today that all she knew was her father walked out on the family when the kids were young, leaving the mother to raise them and they were very poor. But she didn't know any names. Dorothy had 11 or 12 kids, I can never remember exactly, one died during or right after the '72 flood. If anyone could help me with the mother and father of Dorothy it would be greatly appriciated

Megan Ritchie

Could the middle man of John Freed Detweiler instead of (Funk). I know that the Detweiler into married into the same names. I grew up in Buck's County Penna. Alot of the ones that our still left our in the 80, 90's and beyond. I wonder if checking with some of the Mennomite Churches would give some info. My Aunt Sally Detweiler passed on several years ago and had alot of the family history. She was a Detweiler and married a Detweiler. She had lived around Landsdale, Pa. Her brother's were Vincent, Tyson, Raymond, Emos, Osmond, Paul. Her sister's were, Martha, Hanna,Emma, herself (Sally), and a Liz (who died young after childbirth. I think that I am right with the last name. My father had broken away from the religion at a early age, I have no other knowledge of my family since I was sixteen. My father might be of some assistance.

Anna W. Detweiler is my grandmother and the location is Reading, PA. Grammys is her grandmother Anna Miller Detweiler and she died in 1922, buried at Charles Evans Cemetery. I do have some of the family photos but I would appreciate that one if you still have it.

Ernest

Joanna, I saw your note regarding Menno and decided to reply even though my information is not a direct hit on that name.
* I do not have any information on a Menno Detwiler from Perth county, Ontario. I do have two Menno Detweilers in my records but they lived elsewhere.
* I do have descendants named Christian Detwiler/Marion(Mary Ann) Campbell who lived first in Hespeler, Ontario and secondly in Fullarton township, Perth County, Ontario. They raised a family of nine children there. They moved to Perth Co, in 1854 (circa) as young married adults. Christian died and was buried there in 1891. His wife Marion died much earlier, about 1857. Their children scattered to the four winds, moving to Sask., California, North Dakota, Michigan, Kansas, Manitoba. As I said, not an exact match but the location and the dates are about right. Please let me know if you want more info.
Lyle

I am trying to find Menno Detwiler before and after 1881. My great grandfatherHenry Roppel was his brother in law and apprenticed with him in Port Elgin when he was a teen about 1871 but I can't find Menno in the census. His father Benjamin and other family are there in Saugeen Twp in 1871. Menno and family shows up in Brodhagen Logan Twp Perth Co Ontario in the 1881 census. But I can't find him again after that in the census.
Does anyone know anything about this family.

Thanks Lyle. I did manage to eventually find the family again. Menno and his wife Margaret Roppel were still in Port Elgin for 1881 and 1891. He died 1891 and his widow stayed in Port Elgin. His father Benjamin was the one that returned to Waterloo Co. The Eby genealogy and history book was very useful.
Joanna
.

A Menno Detweiler was an architect in Austin and Minneapolis, Minnesota, from about 1900 to 1907. He was born near Berlin, Ontario, on Feb. 14, 1869 and died in Minneapolis in late December (exact date unknown) 1907, leaving widow & infant son. He worked in Chicago in the 1890s and reportedly did some design work for the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. If this is the same person that you're interested in, I would like to hear from you.

At a flea market recently on the PA/NJ border, I acquired a charming image of a young woman; seems to date to 1910 or a bit later. On the back, in pencil: "Anna Washington Detweiler at Grammy's / 734 N 9th", which I can only assume means either Camden or Philadelphia. I'd be happy to send the photo to a relative of Ms. Detweiler, if one can be found. Thanks!

Thank you for repling to my message. I am afraid that the Charles Deweiler that you found isn't the same one that I am looking for information on. My Charles Deweiler was born about 1827. He was wounded at Fredericksburg in Dec., 1862. He was discharged because of his wounds in March, 1863. The 81st was never at Cedar Creek, so I doubt that it is the same person. He applied for an invalid pension while still in Washington, DC in 1863. The last date on the pension papers is 1870. The other Charles Deweiler buried in Kutztown seems a bit more promising right now.
Thank you again for your help.

(hopefully someone has info. from a gravestone where they indicate year, mo, & day of age when death occured. This will tell me the exact date of birth for Anna if I can't locate a family bible. I do know that each of Anna's siblings all received a family bible as I have been fortunate enough to locate 3 of them already out of the 10 siblings of hers.

Samuel was son of Martin K. & Marie Meyer/Moyer.
Anna was daughter of Christian Aderhold/Atherholt II & Margaret King.

Samuel & Anna had 8 children of which only 7 survived.

Any info. and/or documentation on this couple would be most appreciated.
