Arthur,

There are some DeVers in Littleton and Parker, my uncles and their families, but our DeVeres come from Don DeVere born in 1928 in Washington, but raised in Wisconsin. His father, also Don DeVere was born in Illinois in 1903, but we don't know anything else about him.

Good luck,

Travis DeVere
UT
travisdevere@aol.com

Dena,

My grandfather was Don DeVere, born in 1928 in Seattle, Washington. He passed away in 2011, but I don't think that he is the same Don DeVere that you are looking for or at least the half-sister's father. I am looking for information about my great-grandfather (Also Don DeVere) who was born in Illinois. My great grand-mother Thelma Jensen DeVere was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the DeVeres spent most of their lives. My great-grandfather Donald was born around 1903 and left my grandfather and Thelma after 5 years of marriage (I think). What do you know about Don DeVere and is he related to either my grandfather or great grandfather?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Best,

Travis DeVere
travisdevere@aol.com

Hi Ronald,
I have seen info in some World Connect Trees about de Vere Hunts in Australia. I also have seen info about a Henry Hunt who went with some of his sons to Georgia mid 1700's. Legal records have Henry Hunt going back to Ireland with some of his sons and leaving his son Fitzmaurice in control of his lands & business.
There are so many Henry & Thomas Hunts that it's hard to sort it all out. I have some info, but have not been able to verify a connection to my g-g-g-grandfather Thomas from Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary to any of the others. I have a tree from World Connect that connects him back to Hunts in England 1420's, but there are a couple of iffy connections and I haven't been able to verify it completely.
Happy to exchange any info with you.
Barbara Hunt

Hi Edward,
I found info on a World Connect Tree that connects my g-g-grandfather's (Henry) father (Thomas) in Ireland back thru England to abt 1420 but haven't been able to verify much, if any of it. It includes Thomas Hunt & Jane De Vere. I found the info about Sir Aubrey de Vere Hunt, Curragh Chase, Co. Limerick, Ireland, dropping the Hunt name by royal license in 1832.
The info I have is about my g-g-grandfather & his brothers coming to Canada - haven't been able to determine in what year, anywhere from 1830's to 1850's. I have some names & dates about the brothers from Ireland & their descendants but not much - most from the Hunt Cemetery in Rockport, Ontario, Canada - Riverside Cemetery on Wellesley Island, New York, U.S - St. Cyril Cemetery & Walton Street Cemetery in Alexandria Bay, New York, U.S. - all of which are about 5-10 minutes from where I live.
Would be happy to exchange any info I have.
Barbara Hunt

Your name sounds familiar. I believe that is where we got the info from the family bible and possible birth & marriage certificates. You spent summers on Hill (LaRue) Island? I started genealogy about 3-4 years ago and would love to connect with you by email. My first time on message boards and not sure how that works.
Hope to hear from you.
Barbara Hunt

Barbara - You and I are clearly related. My g-g-grandfather was Thomas Hunt, older brother of Henry Hiet Hunt. Thomas emigrated to the Thousand Islands in 1836 from Cappawhite. I believe the second oldest brother, Vere Robert Hunt, left Ireland first. The story in the family is that Vere Robert went back to Ireland after someone died (William, the oldest brother perhaps?) and almost didn't make it out. Apparently, whomever inherited the Hunt lands did not want a rival to the inheritance.

Kate Nelson

Hi
I think my family line connects with Henry Hunt/Jane De Vere, but there are a few questionable links. I have photocopies of possible marriage 8/27/1810, Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary - handwritten note on this says " they looked up the marriage records of Thomas Hunt and Mary (Maria) Hunt and found out that Thomas Hunt's mother's maiden name was Hunt." My GG Grandfather Henry Hiet Hunt b 1825 Tipperary is son of Thomas & Mary (Maria) - supposedly emigrated to Canada in 1846?
I would appreciate any new info I may be able to find.
Barbara Hunt

I found about a dozen family trees that traced Weaver to Weber to Wever to Were to deVere as far back as the year 695. I suspect one person found the original information and everyone else copied it, as I did. It could be exciting info if it is correct, but I am skeptical unless I know where it came from. Does anyone know for sure that DeVere evolved to Weaver?
Lorraine Weaver O'Heren

I have a question, I believe I am related to Simon Wakefield, and as I was searching names in the "www.http://personview.ancestry.com/" I came across Elizabeth DeVere. It says that she may have been married to both Simon Wakefield and William Derby Stanley. I've looked her up elsewhere online, and found that she was married to William Derby Stanley. But I found no record of Simon Wakefield.

Since some people do have Simon as her husband I was wondering how you know that? I am very interested in finding out if I really am related to her or not!

Thanks!
Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, is the man some people believe was Shakespeare.
The American connection I'm researching is Osborn(e)/Broughton/to John De Vere, the 13th Earl of Oxford.

The English Devere is definitely shown as two words "de Vere" in older records. So trying different query terms is beneficial.

In my limited research English Devere is always synonymous with de Vere.
Wife of Alberic De Vere- Beatrice de Ghent

I have conflicting information of the wife of Alberic De Vere (b.1030 d. 1112). Her name was BEatrice (or Beatrix) de Ghent/Gand (b. 1045 d. 1090). She was the daughter of Count Henry de Castillian de Ghent and Sybilla Manasses, but I have read from multiple sources that she was the half sister of William I (William the Conqueror). William's mother was Harlette de Falaise and his father was Robert (Rollo) the Magnificent. William was a bastard child as his parents were not married. After Robert died Harlette married Harlevin de Conteville so I am unsure how Beatrice was his half sister. Was there another Mistress situation? Or a name change?

It shows the marriage of Jane de Vere and Col Henry Hunt, which was the union of the surname.
I would welcome to hear from any decendents as she was the last surviving de Vere afer the 20th Earl died without issue.

Dear Bernie

Have just read your message on the message board. we have similar details in our history. I am looking for an Arthur William De Vere (or William Arthur) who was a travelling showman in the UK. He had four children with my grandma but we believe they were not married. There was also rumour of bigamy!

I think his parents were Thomas and Mary and he had brothers and sisters.

Do you think we have a connection. (strangely enough I've been to Townsville!!!!)

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
Shirley

I have just stumbled on your mention of Jane De Vere and Henry Hunt. A hand-written family tree in my possesssion shows that I am apparently a descendant of these people. Jane de Vere is described as the grand-daughter of the 14th Earl of Oxford, b 1516, d 3 Aug 1562. I would be happy to exchange the information that I have, which was put together by I know not whom !

Hi Marcelo.
I have a Francis Vere Lovatt, born 1862 in Tunstall Staffordshire, England. In 1881 census, he was listed as Designer and Draughtsman (Iron) and living with his widowed mother, Emma and 2 younger brothers at Childerplay, (Brindley Ford), Biddulph, Staffordshire. I have no further information about him after that time. He may well have emigrated to South America. There is a certain amount of mystery about this branch of my family and I hope we can help each other.
Jim

Missing first marriage to Mr [....] Devere or De Vere!

My great great grandmother, Sophie/Lilian Sophie Honnor (born 1852) was married to someone with the surname De Vere/Devere sometime prior to her marriage to my great great grandfather.

I have tried to trace Lilian Sophie's/Sophie's first marriage, but have had no success. All I know is at the time of her marriage to William Darnell in July 1883, her marital status was given as 'widow' and her name was given as Lilian Sophie 'late De Vere, formerly Honnor'.
Lilian Sophie and William Darnell married in East Ham, their address was given as East Ham.
In December 1873 at the time of her mother's death, she is living at 10 Thomas Terrace, Johnson St, Mile End Old Town Eastern.
Does anyone have any rogue De Vere's who may have married my Lilian Sophie Honnor sometime between 1873 and 1883??
I have been trying to track this marriage entry down for almost 10 years now! I have no idea if any children were born from this marriage and would love to find out.
I don't have any idea whether the gentleman was English or perhaps European.
I hope someone is able to help.

DeVere Nobles from England, 1400

I have managed to trace my family back to Sir Richard DeVere from Addington County, England. His daughter, Elena married Lord Thomas Isham b. 1446. Their GG Grandson Sir Eusaby married Anne Borlaise, daughter of Sir John Borlaise. Their Grandson Capt. Henry Isham (1628-1675) and his wife were among the first to come to America. The generations that follow remained in Virginia and what is today West Virginia. I don't know who did all of the research, but I thank you greatly. I had been stuck for a long time. The Isham family eventually married into the Belcher family of whom Elizabeth is my GGGGGG Grandmother. If anyone has any other information, please let me know, and I hope this helps someone else. thank you

DeVere was the daughter of Sir Richard DeVere, 1400 - 1480 and Isabelle DeGreene. I could not fid any additional information regarding DeVere's. Perhaps it is a different family??

Does anyone have or know of Nanny (maybe Nancy?) Devere in their family records? She married Hugh Conn, date unknown. They had a daughter Georgetta born 11 Jan 1919 in Kentucky. Looking for ancestry of Nanny. Thanks in advance.
