Hi, i just saw your post for the first time. My Great Great Grand Father was Elisha Lawrence DeVinny, he was married to a lady named Elizabeth Kunkle, they in turn had 9 children, one of which was Ezekial, who is my Great Grand Father. He had a brother named William that was born in 1817. I don't know if this links us. But you never know

7 years later... Iceman1620- that was me. I am in search of the origin of the name DeVinny with that exact spelling, and any other info about my ancestors. I have no idea how many lines of Devinny's there are, but I have never met another DeVinny outside of my current family.

HELP!!

I've seen so many different spellings of my GGGrandfathers name it's driving me insane. His name was listed as Stacy Diveney/Deveeny/Diveney/DeVaney. I've traced him to Illinois (Coles Co.) in 1850. He was living with what I believe to have been his brother in law Joseph Finley (age 30), Joseph's wife Mary A. (Ambler I think)(age 24), their daughter Mary E. (age 2), Mary's sister Elizabeth Aublen (think name is misspelled I did find marriage records for both Mary and Elizabeth listing them as Ambler(age 20), James Williams (age 10) (no idea what relation this one was. I think perhaps a son since he was listed under Stacy on the census), Thomas W. Diveney (Age 8) and Nancy S. Diveney (age 3). All list birth place as Ohio except Nancy who has Mo. I do know both Stacy and Thomas W. enlisted in the Union Army in 1862 and that he was killed at the battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tn. Thomas eventually settled in Tn. Stacy had originally married Isabella Finley and later Elizabeth Ambler. I assume Isabella died though I have not found any records for her. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?<br>
