OK found the answers to some of the questions in the above post and now have some new ones.
About a year after the post above I found that my GGGrandmother's Mary Elizabeth's maiden name was Sobey.
I haven't found a death certificate for my GGGrandmother yet, and a birth certificate is out of the question, but the only Sobey family on Long Island at the time was that of Jacob and Phebe Sobey. Jacob died before 1850, but the 1830 census has a check mark for a female child of the correct age to be my GGGrandmother b. 1818.
I just received the death certificate of Jacob and Phebe's youngest daughter Sarah Robinson nee Sobey and it lists her mother as Phebe Devoe.
The is a Devoe cemetery in Port Washington NY where the Smiths and the Sobeys lived with the following burials ( from Josephine Frost )
DEVOE, Catharine M. - wife of Tristum Devoe - b. 29 Feb 1826 - d. 18 Sep 1859 - age 33 yrs., 6 mos., 19 days
DEVOE, Caroline M. - b. 28 Apr 1842 - d. 07 Mar 1860
DEVOE, Jane A. - b. 13 Aug 1843 - d. 27 Aug 1843
DEVOE, Sarah A. - d. 06 Nov 1848 - age 2 yrs
DEVOE, John - b. 04 Mar 1853 - d. 03 Mar 1854 - age 11 mos., 7 days
Anyone have any info on any of these folks?
