Looking for any connections that I can find to my Great Grandfather J.B. Dew b. Aug. 15, 1903 d. Jan 30, 1997. He was born in either Louisiana or Arkansas. He was married twice. First to Lizzie Sherman and they had 4 kids and then to a woman by the name of Elvira. I know this isn't much to go on but any little help would be appreciated.

I am descended from the K&Q Dews from Dewsville and Plaindealing Plantation, which is along the Dragon Run. I don't know the name, Walter Dew, but Thomas Dew and his wife Lucy Gatewood (Dew) (late 1700- early 1800's) had five sons and several daughters. off the top of my head, they include Thomas Roderick Dew, president of William & Mary, Benjamin Franklin Dew, John Mason Dew (Plaindealing), and Mary Dew Gresham.

I am a descendant of Thomas and William Warren (who moved to Tennessee). Do you have the book by Ernestine Dew White published in 1937? It covers many of the descendants of Thomas Dew who was speaker of the House of Burgesses from 1642-1660. If you are still searching, I can send what information I have on our branch.

In researching my DeGarmo family tree, I discovered Mary Jane DeGarmo, b. 1857, whose father James died in the Civil War & Mother Annabelle 'Anna' (Steadman) 1830-1895.
I found an entry in the 1880 census for Monroe Twp, Perry Co, Ohio, for husband John Dew, b. abt 1840 & married 1874 to wife Jane b. abt 1857 (my Mary Jane DeGarmo was b. 27 March 1857 in Burr Oaks, Monroe Twp, Perry Co, Ohio). Also listed in the family was their son Lamgerio Dew b. abt 1877, and Anna DeGarmo b. abt 1830.
Also several farms down this census page is Jacob DeGarmo, farm laborer. My Mary Jane has a brother Jacob too. So I think that Jane married to John Dew is my Mary Jane DeGarmo.
However other family trees have her married to William Sawyer 1857-1895, married Mary in 1879, living in 1880 in Union Twp, Morgan Co, Ohio; 1900 Harmony Twp, Clark Co, Ohio; 1920 in Mad River Twp, Champaign Co, Ohio (sons Charles Allen Sawyer b. 1857, Harley McClelland Sawyer b. 1888; Clarence Wilbur b. 1892).
I feel that John Dew is the correct husband because of Anna DeGarmo living with them - but haven't been able to find any more connections other than many of the Dew family live in this Burr Oaks area of Monroe Twp, Perry Co, Ohio.
The DeGarmos came from Randolph County, Virginia, now West Virginia.
Does anyone have any knowledge of these families? Help would be appreciated. Thank you LaVella Tomlinson

Larry DEW or John DEW Family Bible

Searching for anyone who has or knows the whereabouts of a copy of the family pages from a family bible reported to have belonged to Larry and Nancy (Bardin) DEW or Larry Dew's parents, John & Sarah (Thomas) DEW. Failing an actual copy of the bible, an extract claiming to come directly from the Bible would also be of interest.

This bible is mentioned as a reference in the book's about the DEW family by Mrs. Ernestine DEW White and Ms. Sarah Mae DEW. However, neither of them specifically quotes the contents. The bible was reported as in the possession of "Miss Lillie DEW" of Wilson, NC probably during the 1930's.

Help Me with William Dew and Nancy Garnett Married 1804 In Caroline County VA PLEASE.....

I am trying to track down a William Dew and Nancy Garnett, Married 1804 in Caroline County VA. (Page 79 The Genealogy of some of the descendants of Thomas Dew), I believe they migrated to Trigg County Kentucky around 1810.

In 1820, William Dew was part of the 3rd grand jury of Trigg County, and had 700 acres of land. He was born in VA, and his kid, John Dew, was also born in Virginia in 1807. I suspect that William and Nancy (NANCY T DEW) moved to kentucky, and brought at least 2 children with them (The previously mentioned John Dew b1807, and a Daughter Nancy Dew).

Nancy Dew (Daughter of William Dew) Married a Thomas NOEL (SEE BELOW), John Dew (Son of William Dew) Married a Susan Noel m1832, and was in the will of EDMUND NOEL d1835, shown below. He then married a Nancy Edwards m1836.

William Dew seems to be the same William Dew that married Nancy Garnett in 1804 (Page 79 The Genealogy of some of the descendants of Thomas Dew). William Dew purchased a lot of land from EDWIN NOEL in Trigg county 1820. I am looking for more information on this William Dew. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In the book "The Genealogy of some of the descendants of Thomas Dew" Page 89, begins talking about the Baptist Church of Christ, Upper King and Queen County. This is where JOHN SELF Preacher of that Church, who married William Dew and Nancy Garnett. Page 90 says Thomas Dew joined this Church June 1784. on Page 90, in 1788, William DEW was baptized.
(HERE it says William Dew was most likely a Methodist when living in Maryland, I say this William Dew was a Young baby a couple of years old when he was Baptized, and was NOT the brother of Thomas Dew, but a Child that would marry Nancy Garnett, in Virginia 1804)

Elizabeth Garnett Married a Caleb Noel. Parents of Edwin Noel, who William Dew purchased a lot of land from in 1820 325 ACRES. William Dew (married 1804), From same place of Elizabeth and Caleb, and who married a Nancy Garnett purchased Land in Trig County Kentucky from the Noel's Son Edwin Noel.

Not to confuse this William Dew, with the DR William Dew some time later. The 1810 Census of Caroline shows a William, with a wife and small children, being married in 1804, this makes since, and being married the Gardian was a Rice Garnett, probably means William married Rice's daughter, and was very young when he married her.

Now there is too too much here with NOELS, DEWS, GARNETTS and the William Dew of Trigg county. Being from this area and all the DEWS appear to be very much researched, how could this William Dew, attending the same church as Thomas Dew, being born around 1885, Married to Nancy Garnett in 1804 by the John Self from that church, and migrating to Kentucky with a Nancy Garnett be missed? Or have I really gotten things WRONG!

MAJOR NOEL was born in this precinct on September 27, 1839, and is a son
of Thomas and Nancy (Dew) Noel. The parents were natives of Virginia,
and came to this county in about 1810. The father is still living; the
mother died in 1880. Subject was the eldest of three children. The
common schools of this precinct and Russellville College furnished his
education. In 1858 he went to Marshall County, and clerked in a grocery
store for about twelve months. He then went to Hickman County, and taught
school, after which he returned to Trigg County and settled on his present
farm. He now owns about 300 acres, 175 acres of which are in cultivation.
He also pays some attention to stock-raising. Mr. Noel was married in
1859 to Miss Helen Cunningham, a daughter of James and Sallie (Wimberly)
Cunningham, of this county. Mrs. Noel was born in this county, and is the
mother of eight children--six sons and two daughters. Mrs. Noel is a
member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Their daughter, Mary Frances TINER and her husband, Jonathan Sampson THOMPSON.

Their son, William Washington THOMPSON and his wife Mary Jemima BROWN are my maternal great-grandparents.

Funeral Services Held Yesterday; Body Taken East
Edward Mcmillan Dew passed away at his home at 634 College Avenue, Sunday evening at 6:00 following a heart attack.
Ed Dew as he was commonly known was 58 years old and had lived in Claremont 6 years. He was once a newspaper publisher having owned weekly newspapers in Missouri and 2 papers in the state of Washington. During the war he was head of the welfare and safety department of the Bethlehem Shipbuilding company at San Francisco, the family living in Berkeley.
He was born in Greenfield,Iowa and married Mary Jane Ferguson at Holden,Missouri 27 years ago. He was a member of the First Christian church of Long Beach and the Modern Woodmen lodge at Toledo Washington.
During his 6 years in Claremont he was sales manager for Pomona Valley of the Edwin G Hart real estate company of Los Angeles.
While in Long Beach last week he was suddenly stricken with a sever heart attack and was brought home s soon as possible. His condition seemed to be improving but a second attack on Sunday evening proved fatal within an hour.
He is survived by 2 sisters Mrs.H.J.Trubsaw and Mrs.Priscilla Dew Nutting of Washington, both of whom were present at the bedside of their brother at his death. They have been living in Long Beach for the summer. He leaves also 2 brothers, George A .Dew an editor at Toledo Washington and Ray E Dew a minister at Tacoma; his wife Mrs Mary Jane Dew a son Edward and a daughter Mary Jane Dew.
Funeral serviced in charge of Dr.Denison were held yesterday afternoon at Todd and Reeves funeral parlors in Pomona. The body accompanied by the family is being taken to Holden Missouri for burial by the side of his parents.

June 1900 census in Jackson,Missouri Edward M Dew is boarder born Jan 1873 an dis 27 years old, born in Iowa,occupation is printer.Lives in the boarding house of John and Roxie Lightle.

1900 census in Toledo,Washington Edward M Dew age 37 born in Iowa and is a newspaper editor,Mary J age 33 has had 2 children and 2 are still alive. Mary J.Jr. daughter is 4 born in Missouri and son Edward M Jr. age one born in Washington.

1920 census in Berkeley,Ca at 2136 Blake street. Edward M Dew age 47 born in Iowa,welfare works Iron works
wife Mary age 37 born in Missouri,Edward M Dew Jr. born in Washington age 10,also living with them is Pleasant R Gerguson father in law to Edward senior, he is 86 widowed,was born in Missouri.

Claremont,Ca. in the April 1930 census at 634 College Avenue: Edward M Dew age 57 born in Iowa father born in Ohio and mother in Illinois.
wife Mary Jane age 54 born in Missouri ans both parents.
son Edward M Dew Jr. age 21 single,no occupation given, and born in Washington. Edward Sr. works at read estate press company and wife Mary Jane has occupation listed as "boarders private home".

Calif death index: Edward M.Dew born 29th of Jan 1909 in Washington died 6 april 1972 in Los Angeles county. Soc Sec death index states the last known address for benefit was Studio City,Ca.

I realize your post is 3 years old, but I'm hoping you will see this.

Thomas Spencer Dew is my GGGG Grandfather. He first married Rachel Elizabeth Unknown. I can not substantiate the information at this time, but I was told by a cousin of the Moates family that she born about 1815 in Georgia and was a Native American. As such, it was illegal for them to legally marry, though they lived as husband and wife. Thomas and Rachel had 4 daughters - Sarah A. Dew born 1843 in Georgia, Ruth Ann Dew born June 17, 1846 in Burke County, Georgia, Martha A. Dew born 1849 in Alabama and Mary A. Dew born 1851 in Alabama. Rachel died before 1871. Her place of burial is not know to me at this time.
In the 1850 Census, he and Rachel Elizabeth are in Dale County, Alabama.

Thomas and Rachel are my GGGG Grandparents.

About 1871 in Florida, Thomas married Caroline Slay, born Oct 14, 1837 in Alabama, daughter of William Slay and Selimea Thompson. They had 1 daughter, Lizzie Caroline Dew born Jauary 23, 1872 in Alabama. Caroline died June 23, 1872 in Baldwin County Alabama and is buried in Perdido Baptist Church Cemetery, Perdido, Baldwin County, Alabama.

Thomas Spencer Dew died April 2, 1899 in Dothan, Houston county, Alabama. he is buried in Beaulah Baptist Church cemetery in Dothan, Alabama.

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of four Marines who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

The following Marines died Oct. 13 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan:

Pfc. Victor A. Dew, 20, of Granite Bay, Calif.

All four Marines were assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Hello!

I have very little on the Dew children other than Ruth Ann Dew (Moates) who I am descended from.

All I have for either Sarah or Martha is their approximate year of birth - I have Sarah born abt. 1842 in GA and Martha born abt 1849 in AL. I also have another daughter, Mary, who according to my info was born abt 1852 in AL and married a SOWELL.

Do you have any info on the mother of these daughters? I have her name listed as
Rachel Elizabeth, born in GA died after 1860

I was told that her and Thomas never married because she was Native American and it was illegal for a white to marry a Native American. If you any info on this, I'd appreciate it!

My name is Spencer Dew and I live along the front range of Colorado. I am a descendant of Andrew Dew who was the oldest son of (Col.) Thomas Dew. I have research the family back to England in the early 1500's. I am always interested in learning more about the Dew family.

I am also looking for information on Peter Dew Born: 1778 in VA and died 22 May 1856 in Macoupin County, Ill. Peter in buried in Miller Cemetery in Macoupin County.

Was your Grandfather born 12-7-1883 and died 6-21-1948? Were his parents Raleigh Thomas Dew and Emma Elizabeth Williamson (Dew) and both are buried in Texas? If this is the correct family than Allen Dew has some information pertaining to this family line. His website address is www.apdew.com but there is no info past Roy of any spouse nor children. your family tree. I just saw your request from 2000 in 2010
today! I am Martha Demers and need to do much more on my
Dew family research line. My Great grandmother was
Charlotte Avery Dew from VA. Luther Calvin Dew is another
one of my relatives from VA. Born in 1822. I have a lot of
Information on the Dews. It seems they were very interlocked
with their fellow man. Do you want to compare notes? How?

William H. Barrow Dew

Searching for any information regarding William H. Barrow Dew, especially records of his death and/or burial. He was a son of Judson Clements and Willie Lowrey (Neal) DEW. He was married to Marie Hood on Aug 1, 1927 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. The best I can tell he died between 1939 and 1945. The last known address I have is Bristol City, Washington County, Virginia.

My husband is a Dew and his family is from Tennessee. The area i know is Ripley, Halls, and Dyseberg, TN. If related your father would probably be a second cousin. I know all his cousins names and that is not one of them. My husband was born in 1944. I am just getting back to researching our families.

My husband is a Dew from Tennessee. I am just getting back to research. I only go back to his Grandfather, Elick Ode Dew born around 1891 and died about 1956. He had 2 brothers named Robert and Archie. I don't know sister's names.

Curley DEW's name was Alexander Carol DEW, bc1912-1914 in Ontario, Canada, poss died 1973 Oakland Co, Michigan.

Married Vivian [WORTHINGTON] PARKER in Detroit, Michigan area, son Barry b1945 [dec], divorced shortly afterwards.

His family moved to Detroit, Michigan in c1920. Father Simeon James DEW bc1883 Canada, poss died 1967 Oakland Co, Michigan, son of Samuel and Maria. Mother Allie Rebecca SHEPHERD - SHEPHEARD bc1894 in Michigan, moved to Canada, mar 10 Aug 1910, and then to Detroit, Wayne Co,Michigan c1920.

Siblings from 1930 census, Jesse Pearl bc1912, Alfred bc1913 both born Canada.

Any information, direction, suggestions for Alexander C. DEW gratefully accepted. Thank you for your courtesy.

If your uncle's father was a Dew then he carries the Dew YDNA line. He is ok to test. you may join using his DNA.

Hello,

Loice is my father. Clarence's parents were Joseph & Alice. He was born in 1895 & in the 1900 census he was living with an uncle. We're trying to verify how Joseph & Alice died. The family story we have is a "runaway wagon". Can't find any info to back this story up - sometimes oral histories aren't exactly accurate. Any ideas on searching historical newspapers? I haven't been able to find death certificates for them as they probably died before 1900 & death certificates were kept sporadically before 1910.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!!!

I also have a Zachariah Dew in my wifes family, b. ca 1788. He is the father of Lewis Dew I believe, who was the father of Mary Dew, all of Edgecombe Co., NC. Let me know if this is the same person and hopefully we can share some information.
